Need software to make snapshots into video

by mar3148 - 9/25/07 7:47 PM

I must admit, I am just tired of looking for what I want. I am looking for a software, preferably freeware, that will allow me to put in my photos, add my own MP3, be able to sync the music and slides. Of course there needs to be an adjustable timeline. I use Memories on Web but it only allows me to put what I create on YouTube. I want to be able to burn to a CD or DVD. Memories on TV cost too much for me right now.

windows or linux?

by bernieszu - 9/25/07 8:37 PM In reply to: Need software to make snapshots into video by mar3148

If you use windows, you would be able to do this on windows photostory 3 - and it's free to download. You could also use windows movie maker. If you use Linux, I don't know what you could use, but I'd be very happy to hear from anyone who does know of any software for Linux that will let you do this.

Photoshop Album Starter Edition or Photoshop Elements

by mocinha - 9/27/07 2:13 PM In reply to: Need software to make snapshots into video by mar3148

With Photoshop album starter edition or Elements you can build a slideshow in a PDF or WMV file. Album starter edition is free, and you can get a trial of elements for 30 days or upgrade it from starter edition for $79.99.

With the premiered elements bundle you can even burn your slideshow into a DVD that can be played on a regular DVD player.

Need software to make snapshots into video

As mentioned, Microsoft's PhotoStory3 is great. The only bad part is it will make a CD but not a DVD unless you have third party software to make A DVD. If you go to Microsoft's website for PhotoStory3, you will see a product by Sonic that will load right into Photostory3 and set up a DVD burner for a whole cost of $20- you just download it and install it- real easy. The point I'm really getting at, is, If you make just a CD the resolution is really lousy!! If you make the DVD, it is super and shows really well on TVs. PhotoStory3 used to have some tutorials at the Microsoft web site- not sure they still do- you can make your pictures move and zoom in and out, and add as much as a different song to each picture if you so desire. Next to ProShow Gold (69 or 79 bucks) this is an excellent program and our club uses it all the time for our "Showtime" nite every month. Best of all it is free except for the add on by Sonic!!!! Once you get the hang of it - it is pretty easy!!

I use a program called DVD Slide Show, but I don't think it's free. (DH bought it, so I don't even know what it cost us!! But it's great, and I love making discs to send to the grandparents, for parties and events.

Photo's to Video

by azhotaz - 9/29/07 12:42 AM In reply to: Need software to make snapshots into video by mar3148

I tried Photostory and some others but in the end (trial versions usually don't allow you to burn to dvd) it wasn't worth all the trouble. Initially I used MovieMaker -- and it's free with Windows but it won't burn to DVD (in XP version). However, it is really great because you can do so much with it -- adding different transitions, and music (you're not limited to one or two songs), voice, whatever you want. And you can fit a lot on the CD. I got some video and photo's on cd's easily. The XP version I have, however, doesn't allow burning to DVD so I purchased Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I don't think it's as easy to use as Movie Maker but has so much more capability, a lot more reliable, and much better video quality -- besides being able to make menus with scene selections..... It was on sale at the time so it was around $90. You can spend $30-$60 for just 'slide show' software -- but then you'll probably want to expand and do a lot more once you get started so you'll find you'd wish you spent the extra money. Adobe has similar software that's highly rated and it costs about $80 - $100. Since I don't find most Adobe stuff easy for me to use -- I decided to go with the Sony Vegas.

PowerPoint

by JK-8 - 10/8/07 3:46 AM In reply to: Need software to make snapshots into video by mar3148

my solution:

1. create slideshow with MS PowerPoint

2. convert PowerPoint file to video file & burn it to DVD-player

have you tried looking in the downloads section of CNet? like clicking on the above tab marked 'downloads' on this page?

OK, its not free, but Nero Burning Rom has just what your looking for with the added bonus of having it burn your compilation - all in one.

cheers

making a slide show

by steinr98 - 10/13/07 6:30 PM In reply to: Need software to make snapshots into video by HJBartz

avidemux - is not needed to make a slide show as a sceen saver and all that you have to go through to make it. If you want a Screen Saver slide show, all you need to do is put the photos you wish to use in one folder, go to screen saver in desktop properties, choose slide show and it will ask you to point to the folder you wish to use- really easy - no need for 5 copies of each (using XP). You can also point to My Pictures, and all your photos become a screen save that are stored in My Pictures... again very easy.

freeware

by daver - 10/13/07 7:34 AM In reply to: Need software to make snapshots into video by mar3148

google the following:

windows media maker - Creates movies. I think this works. I'd try this first in fact. I'm quite sure this comes with most windows versions (you may need to install it with your windows system disk, or it might be available online).

xnview - does stand alone slideshows. Has decent transitions and allows you to add sound. I did this and then renamed the executable to an .scr file, put it in my windows/system32 directory and then selected it as my screensaver.

avidemux - creates MPG files (movies). Isn't as intuitive, but it is incredibly powerful and the most versatile video tool I have. Put all your images in a directory, then open the first image, and all the other images will automatically be imported (without you knowing). Images will be imported alphabetically. Since your slowest framerate is 1/sec, you will need 5 consecutive copies of each picture for a 5 second frame time.
