D70s color problems
by NikonFAn - 9/17/07 5:19 PMI have a Nikon D70s with which I've shot a few thousand photos. It's my first digital SLR and I shoot a lot of landscape shots. The camera's internal processors seem to gray out the colors on the landscape photos--that is the colors in the downloaded (and unedited) photos appear to be muted and not as vibrant as I remember them to be when I was taking the photo. As a result, I find myself processing photos for color adjustment. Is this an inherent problem with the D70S? Is there a setting I'm missing? Most of my shots are taken on the "auto" setting and I use Nikor lenses.

It's possible you've changed the color mode settings, which are locate din the menus. There is a mode (Adobe RGB I believe, called mode IIa on my D40) which may result in less saturated photos, and is intended more for photos which will be post processed anyway. See if you are using that; try mode III, which produces more vivid colors.

How long have you had the camera, and in what environment were you using the camera (hot and wet, with frequent change of temperatures....etc.). There may be several reasons: camera settings, unclean lens (and mirrors), dirty or deterioting sensor, etc. Is the problem on "landscapes" only ?
