XP booting to BSoD

by windows_xp_hacker - 9/17/07 11:56 AM

Hello All.

I have a large interest in the LCARS computer system from Star Trek and am currently in the process of installing LCARS24 operating system on a slave drive I have. I wanted to install DOS on my slave so I can run LCARS24. Heres the story.

I have a DOS boot install disc, and it asked for either a DOS CD or windows 95. I only had the windows 95 CD, so I put that in and it said data was on the drive (I thought it meant the slave) but it was talking about my master drive. I pressed continue, and it began working for about two seconds until I backed out and pressed the restart button on my tower. I booted to XP to see if anything had been affected. When XP loaded, the WIn2K style log-on screen showed up, so I thought I'd simply have to fix that. I put in my password, and it immediately said "logging off". I tried rebooting in safe mode as administrator, but the same thing happened. So, my next step was to use the install CD that came with one of my computers to do a repair install. That finished, and now the boot screen appears, and then the BSoD flashes and the system re-boots.

I'm running a disk check and repair at the moment, and don't know if that will work or not. I have also tried extracting the kernel32 file from the install CD and that didn't work.

Any help would be appreciated. If I have to, I can stand installing XP on my slave and transferring the files over. It's just I have a hacked system (changed visual styles, boot screen, log-on screen, etc.) and it's a pain to redo.

Thanks,
Travis
