I need some help and a point in the right direction. I did some google searching, found some results, but would like to know what people from Buzz Town did.
Originally, a few months back, I noticed something very small, smaller than a hair on the hinge of my DS Lite. Not thinking too much of it, since I had already read the news about the DS Lite defects, I basically shrugged it off thinking that a crack that small wasn't even noticeable. (The only reason I noticed it was because I was showing the DS to a friend, and he was looking at the DS, and found it) After a few months, I picked up my DS to notice a phugly crack on the hinge, which is REALLY noticeable.... Now I'm clueless as to what to do, or whether Nintendo even covers the DS Lite cracks anymore. Do I just call Nintendo and see?
Nintendo says you should call CS.

I'll see if they do!
I've had it on mine for a year or so now, it's not going to get any worse. Unless you're extremely obsessive about having it perfect, I wouldn't worry about it, it's just a defect.
If it's worth it to you though to wait on it, Nintendo should ship a replacement if it's in warranty.
I understand that it's not life threatening to the DS itself. Just saying. I wouldn't buy a car if it came with a dent.
I noticed my ds had a crack 1 month after the warranty expired and 2 weeks before the hinge totally broke.
AND I SWEAR I HAVE NEVER ABUSED MY DS.
When it broke they said that they would give me a brand new one for 96$ but recently it sounds like they will replace it for free even without warranty. Anybody Know? (Now I just need to find mine)
I got my DS Lite on launch day, and I'm very careful with my electronics. About a month ago I noticed the same hairline fracture. I called them up, and since it was out of warranty, they wanted 86 dollars to repair it!
And to think, if I was hard on it from the beginning, I would have:
1: gotten the crack sooner and 2: gotten it repaired for free.
Oh well, just a flesh wound. I love it and Nintendo all the same.
The top screen of my DS Lite is cracked, though that was accidental. Even though it's not covered under warranty, since it's still under warranty, they're knocking the price from 70 to 50 dollars.
Chances are in your case, they'll fix it for free or for real cheap.
My DS was bought in June of last year. Say goodbye to the warranty. It costs 70 bucks to fix a defect which appears after the warranty expires. I know this isn't as bad as flaming power cords or red rings of death, but it's still a pain. Time to break out the white paint.
The iPhone 3G is having this same problem. You can see reports in forums of the case cracking, or marks under the black part of the screen. Stress fractures especially around headphone jack.
