Absolutely not!

by TJRatfink - 9/5/07 7:46 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

We're subjected to this on a daily basis so there has to be a respite somewhere, a last vestige of no cell phone usage. The airplane is perfect! I don't want to hear someone's conversation when I'm trying to sleep, work or whatever, and can you imagine 20 or more people trying to talk at the same time in a space as small as a plane?

Post 92 of 250

I second your opinion.

I didn't read your post as I was typing mine. You phrased it so much better than I!

Cell Phones on airplanes: Not in my lifetime

by jmantwo - 9/5/07 7:51 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I am addicted to my cell phone. As a road warrior, I cannot live without it. I use my cell phone more than my office or home phones. I do not use my cell phone in restaurants, shops, the grocery etc.

I am constantly aware of my surroundings and do not wish to be on a 5 1/2 hour flight sitting next to someone chatting on their phone. As weird as it may sound, the airplane is one of the last bastions of piece and quiet.

Cell phones on planes?

by Laurenksmith - 9/5/07 7:55 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Yes, however I agree with others that people making voice calls should be required to go to another part of the plane designated for voice calls. Text msg, checking v/m should also be allowed from the seat. I would also add that all the wonderful sound effects that go with cell phones should be disabled when getting on a plane, including the ringer!! I don't want to listen to 3+ hours of anyone talking about their personal life!!! Not unless they want to include their social security #, mothers maiden name and passwords to bank accounts, etc.

A screaming baby would be preferable!

Maybe they should ban babies on planes, too...

by Cooltruth - 9/13/07 3:57 AM In reply to: Cell phones on planes? by Laurenksmith

An upset baby is going to cry whether or not there are people wanting a quiet flight. How thoughtless to bring an innocent baby on a plane! Unlike an adult, a baby doesn't realize it is supposed to stay quiet while flying so as to not disturb anybody trying to catch some sleep. Fly while you're still pregnant if you must fly with a baby. They're quiet before they're born & we KNOW you wouldn't want to disturb your fellow passengers with your crying baby. Or maybe just take the baby on the plane so you can pinch it when someone's cell conversation is annoying you. Nothing like a squalling baby to ruin that phone call!

Allow- SURE!- unless we limit ALL sounds

by featureStrainer - 9/5/07 7:58 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If no electronic problems for plane, why not?

Cell phones are unregulated on our city buses. If someone's talking too loud, others say something. Noisy babies, loud discussions, etc. are currently handled in that way on planes: why not cells?

Re: concerns about privacy- not wanting to hear others' personal talk, etc.- what about now, with voice? Couldn't we say same things to people as when couple, etc. are both ON the plane now?

Just thoughts...

If FAA allows this, I will buy stock in Bose

They make those noise-cancelling headphones.

As much as I hate it, I had to answer Yes

by cpa4601 - 9/5/07 8:00 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

We have all been subject to boorish behavior by people on cell phones in restaurants, movies, etc. I really hate to see a heretofore cell free zone go away. However people, we live in a free country which, every day is becoming less and less free due to unnecessary and over-reaching regulations. Let's face it, the problem is not cell phones, it's the jerks that use them. The answer needs to come in somehow teaching courtesy and caring for those around us. Any ideas folks?

Cell phones on planes

I agree, common courtesy should prevail. But what is the difference between using one's cell phone or the one on the back of the seat in front of you that the airline provides?

No Way!

People are annoying enough without the added "loud talker", "goo goo couple", "paranoid freak" or whatever other cellphone talker types are going to be going at it in your tiny personal space. I don't want to overhear all that crud.

No chatting on cellphones on planes

by timakasi - 9/5/07 8:15 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

No chatting allowed, however, only allow text messaging. That way, you can still communicate without annoying people around you

NOT ABSOLUTELY NOT!

DOES'NT MATTER IF THE PHONE USER TALK IN WHISPERED VOICE. ALWAYS DISTURBE THE PEACEFULL TRIP OF THE NEXT SIT PERSON. THE FLY IS THE TIME TO RELAX.

What can be so important that You have to annoy all Your neighbors.
Relax in Your cramped space and talk all about Nonsense when You get there.
