Where did you get the 5010fd at for that price? Did you get it online? I think I have my mind made up on the 5010fd and have been watching the prices to see the best. I'm just not sure about buying a tv like that online?

Pio 5010FD (1080p) versus Pio 5080 (720p)

- Wow, I got my 5010fd few days ago and it's worth the waiting over the Pio 5080. 1080p has a smoother pictures. I watch TV 10feet away (90% of time) and play game 6ft away (10% of time), and with 1080p, I don't see the the SDE when I stand up close. 720p picture looks ugly when stand up close! The 5010fd is about $600-$700 more than the 5080. My 5010fd was about $3500 (shipping included). Pioneer website has a list of about 2 dozen "authorized internet dealers", I called each of the dealer on the given authorized list and let them do price matching to each other. The delivery wen well too, on time and brand new in the box

Hi Everybody,

Been wanting to tell you and would love to give a plug.
Sent a letter off to the dealer to get permission to post price.
I got mine from Satellite & Sound, also known as PlasmaTV.com for $3,595 shipped a few weeks ago. Almost all of the athorized dealers wanted $5,000 for it. First make SURE you get your online TV from an athorized Pioneer dealer like Satellite & Sound or the warrenty is no good. The list of athorized dealers is at the Pioneer site under 'find store' then 'Athorized Online Sores'. I highly recommend Satellite & Sound, very professional and they even checked with the shipping company to see when I would actually get it before I bought it. Another great thing is their extended warrenty are lower price then the others I've seen. Under $300 for 5 years, the athorized Pioneer techs come to you (most do with that size screen)!

Another thing is the Elite will be coming out any time now but Pioneer will not sell Elites online so you have to pay the $6,500 asking price if you want it at the showroom...but the PDP 5010 has the same screen and processor as the Elite, the only difference is speakers are on the side instead of bottom, two year warrenty instead of one and wireless hook ups. The Elite is also easier to calibrate, other then that I don't know of any other differences.

If you can wait I'm sure the prices will drop, I needed mine for the football season. Don't know how far they will drop since this is the best Plasma out there, 80% better black levels then Cnets top pick which is a Pioneer also but not a 1080p TV like the PDP 5010FD.
Really looking forward to Cnet's review and take on this new technology and TV!

Enjoy,
Mike

going to be purchasing this set in about 2 months or so. When I buy the set, is there a number that I have to call to get the tech guy to come to my house?

Also, what is the tech guy for?

tech guy??? :)

What I meant was the repair man if there is something wrong with the tv. You can always call Pioneer's 800 number and they'll give you the athorized repair place in your area...if there is something wrong with your TV they come to you. I installed/ hung the TV myself with the help of my wife who's stronger then most so you may need to guys to hang it, it's 90 pounds. The wall mount was a piece of cake to install. After that you just left the TV and it hang on it, then you tighten a couple of screws so it can't bounce off during a earthquake.

What I meant...

was that I know some people have their sets professionally calibrated. It usually costs around $200 or more. A normal repair guy does that?

pioneer 5080HD

Don't know if you've made your decision yet, but I've had the 5080 for about a month. I did ALOT of research, and I couldn't be happier. Pioneer is the Porshe of plasmas.( the 5080 does not have the glare problems associated with many plasmas) I have not seen the 5010 that is being referred to, so I can't give any insight as to that. Suffice it to say, whatever you purchase will be "last years" model next year. So the cost difference will always be present, whenever you purchase. I'm not a Rockefeller, but I can honestly say that price was not at he top of my list for HD TV attributes, quality was. I'm absolutely impressed with this TV at $2500. Buy it, plug it in, and just have someone try to wipe the smile off your face!!
