No surprise when Molly speaks: "I dunno, but bla.. apple.. I bla bla kinda not like it.." - Fat Nanos, bad sound out of ipod shuttles, slow macs, buggy software, useless iLife, not touch interface, nothing new, nothing evolutionary. So on and on. ***?
She says, she hasn't seen one. This is enough for a few negative remarks but absolutely no chance here for a good word.
If they haven't seen anything remarkable on Apple's yesterday's announcement, they must either be blind or doing the wrong job!
BOL has finally become a really "Anti-Apple-Show", really.
I'm not saying I didn't bash Apple a little bit on today's show, but I actually wasn't ON yesterday's podcast, and the comments about the Shuffle's sound quality and so forth didn't come from me. Please listen back -- it was our music editor, Jasmine France on yesterday's Buzz Out Loud.
Molly, that wasn't you on yesterday's show? I'm shocked, shocked I tell ya! Sorry, I'm just in a good mood b/c I don't have to work tomorrow!!
I'm pretty much an Apple fanboy and even I appreciate Molly's criticisms of Apple products. Tom brings up the other side so I think the coverage is usually pretty balanced.
As long their products embody the singular vision of Steve Jobs, Apple is inevitably going to incite strong emotional reactions from people, both pro and con. Which I think is a kind of compliment. I'd rather have people love me or hate me than be indifferent about me.
As the first generation shuffle was regularly complimented for it's sound quality, being better over the other ipods even.
Oh, sorry about it, then.
But now I'm curious, do you find the new nano FAT, too?
Molly, I think you're secretly in love with Apple. Why else would you care sooo much about not being able to load your own ringtones -- and the whole $200 price cut deal? You're in looooooooooooove with Apple.
Don't get me wrong, I am too, but I love lamp even more. There are other fish in the sea Molly! You learn, you grow, what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. ![]()
The worst comment on the ipod anncounment show that I herd was by Jasmine France.
Her comment about comparing players "This player is better in this terms (tech specs) ... I think ipod makes excellent players for a lot of people because they are really really easy to use ... of course I think that marketing has a lot to do with it"
Jasmine just compares the tech specs of products in order to give her views on comparing products.
My father used a phone for 3 years and never figured out how to do anyting but make calls by dialing and answer the phone. No text messaging, voice mail, contact list and etc.
Yet my fater figured out how to use an Ipod in an hour.
There is real dollar value on useability to the consumer why can't you tech reviewers see that?
Consumers see the value and that is why the Ipod is selling so well.
If you want reviews from people who don't know anything about technology than CNET is not the place for you.
Not sure about the rest of CNET, but if the people on BOL "know technology", they do a good job of disguising it. Personally, I find the show entertaining precisely because it is not a geek fest.
don't know if anyone else reads the XKCD comic but this one fits into the discussion nicely.

Should know something about usability and interface design..... And a product that's difficult to use should rightly be criticised for messing that up. This is not so much an issue of being newbie friendly. But fundamentally important aspects of competent product design. In other words an expert of technology should know more about what makes something easy to use than an average person and should be quicker to criticise that aspect of technology! That's my opinion anyway.
Check their BIO's, especially Molly. She has a little Mac mini, and some kind of stock Compaq windoze machine. Oh yeah, they're totally geeks. Give me a break, they're pundits and rant crazy. Molly just goes off on these little diatribes and drags the other poor guy with her.
