All this nonsense about whether or not Apple had a right to drop the iPhone price $200 in just 66 days is ludicrous; of course they had a right. Free market, buyer beware etc. BUT (and this is a big BUT) it's BAD BUSINESS! We're not talking about Apple putting iPhones "on sale" right before Christmas; that type of thing happens when you make a purchase all the time. What Apple did was CUT THE PRICE by 30 percent in just over two months. They're only going to get idiots (sorry Tom) who have to have the newest gadget right now or else, not us sane, sensible shoppers who want to make sure they are getting a reasonable price and not being taken for a ride.
How are you taken for a ride? You KNOW what the price is BEFORE you purchase it. Do you complain when that new BMW model is suddenly $5000 cheaper the day after you buy it? I'd hate to be Molly's BMW dealer. I bet she still calls the BMW dealer and asks why she can't get the current price of her model lol (btw which series does she drive?) ![]()
I think there are more things about the iPhone to complain about that you don't realize until AFTER you've purchased the phone. Things you sort of take for granted because they are features on most smartphones old and new:
- Cannot replace the battery or buy spares
- Cannot install custom apps
- Cannot have custom modified ringtones
- No hands free dialing (voice commands)
- No MMS picture messaging
- No removable memory card
- headphone jack not compatible with most headphones
- No stereo bluetooth either
- No modem plan available (would be about $45/m extra anyway)
And the # reason to complain:
- It costs money (most smart/pda phones are next to free!)
So if Tom and Molly could go back to complaining about these reasons, and also move the show to a new show called Mac Out Loud, and have Brian Colley do BOL, we'd be all set. haha! ![]()
Apple should have kept the price high through the holidays just 'cause it's "nice" business practice is completely absurd.
We all know that an Apple marketing team decided 600 would be the most they could charge for the iPhone and still get good sales, then when they saw the hype dissipate and sales fall drastically they went to bringing it to a normal 'cost/profit' price- this way they got a great response because of the hype and then they'll make the rest of their sales because of availability to non high-end consumers.
Like I said, life isn't fair: and sadly it doesn't always sound good in a press release. Getting money BACK from Apple is not what you'd expect out of any company; and it was in a verymuch Apple fashion a classy thing to do (no matter how unclassy overcharging was).
Alex
btw- you're no more sane than current users because you didn't get an iPhone. The truth is you weren't too into it or you didn't have enough money.
...she points out that Apple is only doing this to make money. Just like every other company out there.
I really don't understand what the big deal is though. Apple dropped the price of an uberexpensive phone to sell more units, since a LOT of people didn't want to pay 600 for a phone.
If everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, jumped on the bandwagon and brought an iphone and no one was complaining about waiting for a price drop or anything, it would STILL be $600 I imagine.
The general premise is "Oh god, I should have waited to buy an iphone now that it's cheaper." To that I just have to say, if you brought an iphone, it must have been important enough for you to spend that much money instead of buying one of the many other cheaper smartphones out there. If you are complaining about it, then you obviously don't think it was worth the money. It's not like Apple held a gun to your head and said "Buy it!"
And be happy that you got a $100 credit. That means that Leopard will be cheaper for you when it comes out
Which we already knew from articles estimating the cost of manufacturing to be about $250..... It was the same article that made the stock price shoot up because investors were happy about such obscene margins.
The price drop brings the iPhone down to the iPod's level of profit margin, which is still very high though. ![]()
But on the other hand with all the hype, it would be incompetent business practise to not overprice it. ![]()
"I don't care if I ever win the lottery, as long as no one I know ever wins".
The fanboys were pleased when they got their iPhones first. Now that others get them cheaper, they are not happy for the others, they want everyone to have to wait in line and overpay.
If it wasn't worth $600 bucks why did you wait on line and wave them around and tell me how good they are? You liked it 2 months ago so why are they not so great now? Enjoy your 2 year ccontract!
