If you have an iPhone, I'm sure you're upset. I've been trolling the Apple message boards and a few other sites, and am finding this to be a heated debate. The messages mostly fall into one of two types: "I want a rebate because Apple ripped me off," and "Sucker. No one forced you to buy a $600 cell phone. Get over it."
I bought an iPhone, and I'm upset about the price drop. To a certain degree, I understand I paid an early adopter's penalty. I've been through this before with Apple when I bought a Powerbook, and 15 days later (1 day after my return expired), they released a better version at the same price. In that case, I was less justified in being upset because they wanted to keep the price point for the 15-inch Powerbook, and now mine was obsolete.
In this case, no better product was released. My iPhone is still top of the line. Now, two months later, Apple admits they always intended to drop the price for Christmas. I've never seen that happen without an improved model being released at the same time.
That said, does it matter whether or not my outrage is justified? The thousands of people like me who bought early are upset. And we're the ones who waited in lines and help make the iPhone a success in the first place. Now we feel burned. I know that unless Apple makes good with me (I'm not asking for $200. Just give me something.) I'm not an early adopter any longer. I know three people who weren't going to buy an iPhone because they thought it was too expensive until they played with mine. If I'm not an early adopter and not making referrals, hasn't Apple lost a valuable resource? Didn't Apple just burn some of its best salespeople? It just seems like good business for them to throw us a bone.
I'm wholeheartedly, and unapologetically with the "Sucker" crowd. I am still saying that anyone who paid $600 for a phone needs their head examined.
However, in case you haven't been on the Apple site recently, they are going to work out getting Apple Store credits to all iPhone owners.

OK. I'm happier now. Got that link from a friend just after I hit the submit button. I'm calmer now. Thanks.
i dont know y u should be upset in the firstplace though. Offcourse your suppose to expect a pricedrop thats why i buy electrinocs when its is launched after 5 months
You got exactly what you were willing to pay for at the time you ran out a purchased it - correct? If you bought a new car, house, or even an ice cream cone and 2 months later they they went on sale would you run crying back to the dealer and say they had sc%@wed you? Quit acting like a bunch of babies and get over it! You got exactly what you deserve. Maybe next time you will think about how much you really HAVE TO HAVE that new technology before everyone else.
Stood in line for 4 hrs to be first--not for me-my son-----I think the whole issue is a joke.
Yes I agree with You
& people stop behaving like Babies Price do drop so wht
EGO. If you waited in line for a day to be the FIRST one in your crowd to have one, you have one big EGO. Therefore it stands to reason, when you find out you have been had, and shown to be as stupid as you are...that big EGO really kicks in. I agree with the the poster who remarked that the 11th commandment is "Thou shalt not Whine".
"Caveat Emptor" Latin for Buyer Beware. The price of these phones was the introductory price and designed to attract only the serious gadget heads. I think it is common knowledge that the introductory price goes down after the introduction of any electronic device. Think XBox, PS2, etc. The price you paid (willingly) was for being the first kid on your block to have the new toy. Live and Learn and follow the eleventh commandment. "Thou shalt not Whine"
Wow, Apple is going to let me spend $100 in their store as a credit for getting ripped off. Gee they are way too big hearted.... Consider you all spent an extra $200 for bragging rights, allowing you to claim to haveing the newest and coolest sooner than the rest of us....
Personally, I would never spend $400 on a cell phone, never mind $600, thats just plain screwy.
Why are we surprised? I think back to my first LED calculator, $328....Was that 40+ years ago? Who can remember? And how about all our friends who are waiting for "the prices to come down" on everything electronic they buy. Human gadget nature as it is, we not only pay for the brand new , lastest etc, but now, we embarrass ourselves by standing in line to pay more. And you know it going to be cheaper yet or disguised with a new feature or two. Well, my critical friends from 40 years ago are finally getting what they wanted ,a free calculator...it probably has some bank logo on it, or the dozens of website calculators that figure out everything except how to keep us from wanting the latest- first!
I Knew it. It was so hard but I resisted the urge to purchase one too soon because I knew the price would drop. In fact, I'm still thinking about giving it until a month or two before Christmas for some other kind of promotion to come up. I Love the iPhone already and it's hard to wait but I'm also hoping Apple will pressure AT&T to ease up a little on the special charges they're putting on only their iPhone customers. Yet they are giving all their other smart-phone customers a bunch of incentives.
