Apple should have kept the 2nd generation nano design

by alpainter - 9/6/07 12:55 PM

The new ones are ugly little buggers. And, honestly, if you have a flash player it is more likely than not for running, working out, cycling, etc. So why would you need video?????

Plus, the capacity sizes are the same. If that is one of the things nano people were quoted by Jobs as wanting in the next iteration of the player, why re-release 4/8GB models?

Creative now has a 16GB flash player, why can't apple?

Thumbs down, I love my 2G red 8GB nano, and it won't be going anywhere any time soon. Especially since I have the extended care plan for the next two years!

I actually have to disagree...

Been hearing a lot of hate toward the new design, but I think it's better that they changed it, if they're going to add video. The wider size lets them put a widescreen-ish, larger screen on the player. I couldn't even imagine putting video on my current 2nd gen Nano. However, I would love to have video playback, for video podcasts and stuff, which I never have time to watch at home, but could watch while on break at work, in between classes at school, or just free time elsewhere.

I don't actually have my nano for running, or jogging, or anything. I just like how small it is, that it's flash-based, and that it's moderately inexpensive. That, and hecka durable. Mine's pretty beat up, it's been dropped onto pavement from about 5 feet up, still works perfectly.

I'll probably end up saving up to get one a few months down the road, but for now my nano does just fine.

The colours are ugly and ditching the 2nd gen design was a mistake. I like the video feature added but thats it I could care less for the split screen itnerface and I don't like the cover flow thing. Also the nano seems pretty fat I bought my second gen nano (thank god I did) for its small size why would I want a bigger mp3 player? and I think they should have made a 16 gig nano but they probably didn't to push people into the touch. Either way the new nanos and the colorus are down right ugly.

Try it out!

After holding one in my hand, and actually having my jaw drop, my skepticism faded away, along with my love for Creative. It really is fantastic looking and feeling, especially in such a small package.

Depends on the user.

When the Mini was replaced by the plastic Nano, I was really ticked off because I was getting ready to get another iPod, and I knew that the plastic ones were screwed. No aluminum shell, no colors, more breakable, etc. And they traded the Mini for that and a color screen.
But the 2nd Gen Nano was very appealing to me. It was both of them combined.
These new ones are pretty much the "obese" iPods. They can do everything, but they are fat and short. I have to admit that the colors are horrible. If you got one, go with silver, because you can't go wrong with a plain color. And still, the capacity in the new ones are somewhat ridiculous if you want to watch movies and videos on it. And playing games on it would not be too great.

Music and music videos are more suited to the new Nano. It's great that Apple came up with a new and fresh design, but it doesn't appeal to everyone. Me, I don't like it too much. I'm going for the Touch and maybe a Classic 160GB for a huge library.
I'd be happy to try it, but I haven't yet, so I guess I'm judging an iPod by it's color (or shape, LOL). I don't think they should have kept the 2nd Gen though. They were out for some time. January to September is a reasonable life span for an Apple product. You have to try new things anyway to enjoy life, LOL.

Try it if you must, but my guess is it won't be too great for me. If you like it, buy one and be happy. I'm going for Starbucks and Wi-Fi!

Hope this helps,
-BMF
