I would like to be asked if I would like to be seated in a cell phone or non-cell phone section just like an aisle or window seat or the old smoking or non-smoking seating.
I would if anything allow text messaging but as to voice calls I would not. I don't want to sit next to a girl or guy having problems of any kind and having to listen to their conversation or hear about anything else. At least texting does not make noise (except when you receive one, but phone can be set to vibrate) If it is a long flight then I want to have time to sleep if I can.
You could always just ask her to keep it down.
But no, you're right, we should ban all possible electronic communication/entertainment devices that might keep you from sleeping. Sorry, is the rustling pages of my book too loud? I'll just sit here and stare at the no smoking sign.
"Ask them to keep it down"
Haha, real funny.
I like the idea of a sound proof room though, they all could be yelling into their little security blankets and not bother the rest of us.
Cell phones are like smoke, other peoples conversations do not slowly kill you but makes you want to kill yourself!
Sounds from a cellphone conversation can be heard for many rows and in some cases, in my lengthy experience of air travel, almost the entire plane. You have to speak loudly to be heard, everyone doing so would be a disaster.
I hope they never allow cell phones on planes, most people I have encountered always talk in a loud voice. Due to the small confines of an airplane it would be impossible to talk without disturbing the person near you and would be totally inconsiderate. I have a cell phone but that is the last place I would ever use it. Please wait until you are on the ground to have your cell phone glued to your ear. I am sure you will and can survive for a few hours without it.
If we look at how people talk on cell phones now, many of them are very loud, present company included. Given the fact that the noise level on a plan is very high as it is, then the person talking on the phone will probably talk loud just to overcome that ambient noise. This will result in those using the phone having to yell to be heard over the noise of the plane, and the other users.

A cell phone works by a Frequency modulated signal that varies the frequency. Shouting in it doesn't help the loudness one little bit. Your voices regular loudness will vary the frequency at a normal volume, thus anything else is just a waste of effort, and could lead to confrontation with this author. I travel long distances and I like to sleep. This makes the journey seemingly of a shorter duration. If I had to listen to someone screaming into a cell phone, I would probably get into trouble.
Many thoughtless people have transformed a relaxing rail journey into one that is often a nightmare - not just trains but trams as well, with some passengers talking non-stop for over an hour at a time.
Whilst I do not travel by air, I shudder to think that the same rules are to be applied there as well, whatever "genius" thought THAT one up had better reconsider the idea at once if not sooner.
Why don't we just have everyone yapping and talking loud in the movie theaters too!! It's bad enough I have to actual talk to these annoying dim wits. They are probably the same people that will text message while they drive. I don't pay good money to get somewhere to hear for two hours plus, someone yap about unimportant crap!! No place is quiet anymore!!
Given the number of issues which arose when I use to commute by bus (green before it become the pc thing), these were some complaints. Folding a map set off one person folding a newspaper. In both cases I was aware of noise and was doing it gently so as not to make a snapping noise. So after the newspaper complaint which was so petty,I rolled it up banged on on the window yelling well, it's not like i am banging it against the window. The lady shut up and did not say a word for 45 minutes while everyone else had a great laugh.
So if phones are allowed, we the considerate will have to just fight back in a non violent mannner. Read a book out loud. If they complain ask them what's the differenc ebetween me talking and you talking. Your noise is just as annoying. Accidentally knock the phone to the floor and perhaps slip and step on it. Get your phone out and talk even louder, call everyone you know and talk for the entire flight, bring an extra battery to keep going. Call your house, diable the answering machine and call off randon munbers and letters as if you are about to launch a secret attack on some foreign soil with a nucleart weapon. Drink heavliy and slur your speech and say shut up shut up shut up.
flying is so bad now, I have gone 15 months due to the hassles. Was flying 10 times a year but got fed up with all the rude people. Use to be people paid attention and did not bump into each other and if they did, an apology was provided. Not now. And ahy are kids today so unruly ? We are going backwards not forward. Oh I have 300 friends on my sapce , so you probably don't have any real relationships in your life if you have time to im 300 strangers.
I live in NY where hand held cell phones are baned while driving a car yet I see 3 out of every 10 cars on the road with drivers on the phone. These people just don't care even though if they get caught it's a $100.00 dollar fine. The police are not inforceing this state law. Who is going to inforce this law on a airplane?
Imagine a long night flight, you want to rest so to be prepare for the next day at your destination. maybe you have a meeting, maybe you are going to a wake o maybe you have to catch another plane to continue your journey and your next seat passenger happens to be a charter box on the phone and since he or she is paying for the call, this gives this person de right to talk as much as she o he wants. And you? what is your desire?, what are your rights?
Think about this before saying yes to cell phones on the plane.
except for me
But I'll have to get one first.
Keep the ringer on vibrate is the big thing. That would win as most annoying, over a crying baby in my mind. A cellphone that keeps ringing on 5 hour flights. (All flights from here are at least 5 hours.) People talk on the plane already to each other and with the sound of the plane it's easy to tune it out. Im for it, but the sound needs to be off. If there is anything to complain about it's the lack of food.
