CELLS ON PLANES-YES

by LMHED - 9/5/07 7:10 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

EVERY ONE ON A PLANE SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO USE CELL PHONES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! MAINLY BECAUSE I NEVER FLY AND MAY BE THEY WILL BECOME SO ANNOYING TO EACH OTHER THAT THEY WILL REALIZE WHAT RUDE, MANNERLESS, EGOTISTS THEY ARE! I DO THINK THAT CELL PHONES SHOULD BE BANNED ON ALL PUBLIC TRANSIT. I REALLY HATE TO THE CELL ADDICTS THAT THEIR MOTHERS LIED TO THEM! THEY ARE NOT THAT IMPORTANT! AND THE REST OF THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF THEY WOULD JUST HANG UP!!

Headphones?

by Cousin Kyle - 9/5/07 7:17 PM In reply to: CELLS ON PLANES-YES by LMHED

Why do airline companies flip the role of Music and charge a buck per outgoing call? There is technology just like secure Wi-fi out there that would allow a airline company to bill per call out. Make the Music and Movies free, increase the economy, and get over it. I would make probably 10 - 15 calls on a 2 hour flight I hate flying cause it hurts my bottom line (most people in business) and would pay additional service fees even on international flights. It cannot be more annoying then those text messaging commercials for (ex.) text dumb to 1234.

Wow---Nicely Put

by Darmananda - 9/6/07 5:11 PM In reply to: CELLS ON PLANES-YES by LMHED

Wow, I wouldn't have put it quite that way---but what a realist you are. I have an exact opinion but only didn't know how to voice it. Thank you.

No cell phones!

by katiebug57 - 9/5/07 7:14 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I can't believe it is even a question. People who are on cell phones that AREN'T on planes are unbelievably rude and loud. It is a matter of respecting another and their right to privacy.

No cell phone usage on Airplanes!

by garylea - 9/5/07 7:14 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

A lot of the people you hear on cell phones are talking as if they had to yell to be heard. Much of the time they seem to be talking about stuff that they should be embarrased for other people to overhear. Making rules requiring courtesy will not do any good. These people have no clue what courtesy means. As for the idea of having cell phone and non cell phone sections it would probably be about as bad as when there were smoking and non smoking sections on a plane. The voices of people talking on their cell phone are not going to respect those barriers any more than the smoke did.

A few months ago I was in the hospital for cataract surgery. I had to wait for awhile before I could be admitted. There was a guy in the waiting area who was apparently having a verbal battle with his wife (or girlfriend). There were several people in the waiting room all rolling their eyes. The administrative staff on duty didn't seem to think it was necessary to do anything about it. Of course there were signs all over the place instructing all people in the waiting room to turn off their cell phones.

This was around the 3rd or 4th time I have been in for surgery but this was the first time I was actually looking forward to going in!

I can only imagine what it would be like if such cretins are allowed to use cell phones on a plane.

Since traveling by plane has already become enough of a hassle due to the increased security since 9/11 I think this would force me to discontinue using the airlines completely.

Cell phones should be allowed on planes

by tektoni - 9/5/07 7:15 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

How would that be dfferent, except for cost, than the outrageously expensive AirPhones they used to have on nearly all of the majors? And this idea of electronic interference is a red herring. Airlines have known for years that doesn't happen.

It's a lot different...

by garylea - 9/5/07 7:40 PM In reply to: Cell phones should be allowed on planes by tektoni

Because those in flight phones were seldom used. They were (and are) way to expensive. Using ones personal cell phone usually isn't going to cost much, if anything, extra for the user.

Towers???

by alchem - 9/5/07 7:24 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Unless they've installed cell towers in mid-air, cell phones don't work at 20,000 feet.

calling while dying & calling for small talk

by Darmananda - 9/6/07 5:20 PM In reply to: Cell phones on planes by tn2454

We're NOT, and again NOT, talking about cell phone usage during emergency saying goodbye before you die in a highjack.

We're talking about stupid people talking on cell phones when there ISN'T an emergency.

HOW CAN'T PEOPLE DIFFERENTIATE THE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS IS BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION.

Post 86 of 250

No, YOU misread the question!

by morninglory - 9/7/07 1:19 PM In reply to: calling while dying & calling for small talk by Darmananda

Go back and read the question: Should cell phones be allowed on airplanes? The question does NOT say anything about "in emergencies, during a hijack, plane about to crash, on fire", etc. It simply asks if cell phones should be allowed on airplanes. 'Nuff said.

Cell Phones on Airline Flights -NO, NO, NO, ABSOLUTELY NO!

by lhridley - 9/5/07 7:33 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Most people are totally unaware of how LOUD they are in public with their inane banter on their cellphones. When I am travelling at great personal expense whether on business or personal, I do not need the invasion of my PERSONALLY paid for space on the flight with selfish, loud cell phone conversations. I paid for my space to quietly prepare myself to relax and focus on whatever the mission my flight entails. There is plenty of time prior to boarding and once we land for those who suffer from "cellphoneitis" to satisfy their craving to be running off of their mouth. TAKE A BREAK AND RELAX FOR A CHANGE, YOU MIGHT LIKE IT AND BE BETTER OFF BY DOING IT!

Yes, but with certain rules like time limits and constraints

by cvelez124 - 9/5/07 7:34 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I'm mostly OK with cell phones on planes if it's essential and there's a time limit. Listening to a someone call mom to say "Meet me at baggage claim" is WAY different from that person crying endlessly about boyfriend or girlfriend problems. Definitely NO phones on late-night flights.

NO NO NO NO! Please don't!!

by xraygoddess - 9/5/07 7:39 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Can you imagine the horror of finding out a loved one was seriously injured, or had died, while 35,000 ft in the air? No such thing as "Turn around!" or "Faster!" or "Drop me off here".

The only thing that could be the absolute worst (for me) would be sitting next to someone who had just been dumped over the phone or by text message.

cell phones

by Ogee101 - 9/5/07 7:43 PM In reply to: Poll: Should cell phones be allowed on planes? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have ONLY ONE concern when I am flying. That is SAFETY !!!
I am against ANYTHING that might cause a problem. Are people so full
of themselves that they are willing to jeopardize their lives and the lives of others. When proven safe, then OK to a certain extent.
Besides, when any people use their cell phones, they are loud and obnoxious. Turn the phones OFF---get a life !!!!
