If you're having problems with your ethernet controller the (wired internet connection device), then we don't need the "wireless" driver, which is what you've provided us with... We need the ethernet driver which would have been obtained BEFORE reinstalling XP.. The Dr provided an ethernet driver for the Intel Pro 100/VE.. Is that what you need? Why didn't it work? It's a zip file so were you able to unizp it, then install it?
And remember, the drivers provided by the Dr are for the "Gateway MX8738" computer. Do you have the same model?
Hope this helps and let us know more.

I would REALLY appreciate the drivers. Gateway is being a snot (nothing out of the normal). I am NOT a big fan of Vista. Have this GT6828 laptop and I want it with XP. From everything I have read it seems like the conversion will be a nightmare. but? LOL! Ready for a challenge!!!!
Thank you for any help you can give.
Hi,
I'm new to Cnet, and I noticed the discussion about the Windows XP drivers for the Gateway MX8738 notebook. I, also, need those drivers for my daughter's notebook. Vista is just too klunky on that machine and gives us a lot of problems with compatibility. Can you get my e-mail address from cnet or should I send it to you?
Thanks.
Here's the link which provides a link to the those drivers:

Hope this helps.

I'm working on a Gateway laptop at this moment that was infected with a virus and corrupted XP beyond repair. The laptop has an SATA drive.
I rebooted the machine with the recovery cd inserted and it actually booted from the recovery partition and tried to copy files. Well, duh, if the computer is infected I don't want it to boot from the recovery partition!
Here is the point, if you delete the recovery partition on a Gateway laptop that has an SATA drive and then boot from the recovery cd/dvd the recovery disc does not work because those DUMB ***** at gateway didn't put an SATA driver on the recovery disc!
I've seen lots of posts with people that have the same problem even to the point that the "hard drive is bad" and so on. Fact of the matter, Gateway didn't put an SATA driver on the recovery cd and that is why it boots up and gives you the no hard drive installed or drive missing error message.
I know it is to late now, but learn how to save a drive image of your PC operating system to an external hard drive.
If you had a drive image of your operating system on an external hard drive all you would have to do is "restore a drive" and your PC would be like it was when you made the image.
INCLUDING ALL THE DRIVERS.
YankeesNYwins: could you please tell me where you exactly got the audio driver?, I have the exact same Gateway model and I can't find that driver for XP, I already tried on the Gateway site with both the online help and emailing them but they told me that they CAN'T give me any link or support for that driver because "my computer was shipped with Vista", I'm not doing dual boot whit Vista, I don't even like Vista, but I have my Gateway laptop on dual boot with Linux Ubuntu and by the way Ubuntu recognized all my hardware since the first time!
Thanks

hello, im tring to find the audio driver for mi laptop gateway mx8738, it had vista and I installed a clean windows xp on it, it works great but the audio driver that i dowloaded from the links in this forum hasent work, I read your message and you said that the technical support team sent you a link, can u help me out with the link, i thank you for the support, good day
I put it on top for you.
I reallize I might have inferior skills to alot of the posters here but I didn't do the DUAL Boot thing (I hate VISTA on this Laptop and needed XP Only)
I know this is a longish post but it is my step by step...
Not meaning to offend but XP CD doesn't automagically recognize the SATA hard drive on installation. Nor does Gateway currently provide all of the necessary drivers via their support site (i.e. LAN, AUDIO, VIDEO, MODEM, CHIPSET) as the prior posts have indicated. Rest assured, you can totally do this and it works great but here's a different take on the required steps....

Hey Everyone,
Here are the steps I took to get the MT6840 downgraded to XP from Vista. Please note, this presumes you're comfortable with the concepts of installing an operating system and its device drivers. If you aren't, print this and give it to someone who is
If you're computer blows up, catches fire, or otherwise does something you don't like because of these suggestions, take it back to the manufacturer but DON'T assume that I am responsible for anything. I've just spent 15 hours of a holiday weekend compiling this. It should take you a couple of hours to accomplish on your own following this information.
Enjoy!
-----------------------
1. Log into the Gateway Support Site and provide your serial # to get SOME (not all) XP drivers. Do NOT use Model Number as they won't provide the files you need (they'll try to give you vista drivers).
2. Use NLite (http://www.nliteos.com/) to slipstream an XP installation with the Text Mode drivers for the SATA install onto a new CD. The textmode drivers are provided by Gateway via the Support site (using your serial #) in the "F6 Floppy X86" directory.
3. Install XP
4. Install XP SP2 (off of a CD, thumbdrive, etc...) - download it here - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
---Begin Installing Devices - I don't remember the order but it shouldn't be TOO important---
5. WIFI Driver - From Previous Gateway Download site (using your serial number) - Yes, you need to have downloaded this first
File Description: Intel Wireless Driver
Version: 11.1.0.86
Run AUTORUN
6. AUDIO Driver - Downloaded from http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers...p;uid=167551212
File Description: Audio Driver
Version: SigmaTel 5.10.4946.0
Run SETUP
7. MEDIACARD READER Driver - From Previous Gateway Download site (using your serial number) - Yes, you need to have downloaded this first
File Description: Windows XP and Vista (32/64-bit) TI Media Card Reader Driver
Version: 2.0.0.6
Run SETUP
8. LAN Driver - NOT the one from the Gateway Download Site - Not even an INTEL LAN Device - go to MARVELL
Marvell Yukon 88E8038 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller Drivers
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDispl...d=175&pId=6
Decompress and RUN Setup
9. Install BLUETOOTH if you want - It doesn't do anything right now
10. MODEM Driver - Motorola Driver - Get it from the Motorola Site (SoftModem 56 or SM56)
http://www.motorola.com/softmodem/public_d...6.12.07_DFV.zip
RUN SSetup
11. VIDEO Driver - Download from Intel (for the Intel 945GM Chipset)
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_des...amp;prdmap=2529
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/T8Clearanc...e=&lang=eng
You can search on Win2K_XP1431 (as of this writing) and find the download + readme
--LAST STEP--
Lastly...you will likely have an SM Bus Device Issue in Device Manager...to correct it you'll need the correct chipset drivers.
12. Go to the Intel Site and Search on
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Fi...x?ProductID=816 (Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility)
If you are running XP Pro (not HOME), just go to the below...
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_res...mp;submit=Go%21
Run SETUP
-------------------------
At this point, you should have all of the drivers installed and NO unknown devices in Device Manager. If you still do have issues, get into an online chat session with Gateway. If you ask nicely and are persistent, they'll try to help you although they don't have an obligation from a Warranty perspective to do so.
Good Luck...my experience with XP has been BLAZING FAST on the Gateway MT6840 after installing everything. (Sorry Vista but you need to lose some weight and become more stable). I hope your experience is great, too!
Hi, the link you posted for the Marvell Yukon LAN driver doesn't work anymore, I tried to do a search for the driver on that site but apparently they removed all the drivers, can you help me to find the LAN driver please? I have the exact same Gateway model
Try this direct link: http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=175&pId=6 and see if the download begins after you accept the licensing terms. If not let us know exactly where it's going wrong.
