Guys,
Have you tried taking advantage of best buy or circuit city's price match guarantee before? I have seen couple of people going to the store with printouts of cheaper price and best buy (in both cases) matching the price. I have tried once in the past where I went with the printout of price and best buy rep. told me that they can't consider that price because it has to be from the store that is not just e-shop and has a physical location i.e. circuit city, office depot etc (I went with printout of plasmabay.com or something). Is that true? I would like to know if any one were successful in making them match the price which stores' printout you carried with you? I am trying to find out which all stores were considered by best buy or circuit city for price match.
Thanks,
Shyam
chances are pretty slim that BestBuy or Circuit ****** will price match an online site. HHGregg might as long as you buy their service plan, they only care about how much money they put into their pocket. Bestbuy has to work with the acctual cost of an item to the store and if your online price is lower, lets face it, its not a good business decision for the company. The best thing you could do is look at your home theater set up and see if there are any other components you need or want to add on, best buy being NON-comissioned sales people will work out a package price that may be better.
I bought my Pioneer PDP5080HD at Best Buy with a price match from Visual Apex.com. The thing with B.B. is that the price must include the shipping cost in the price, and the store must be an authorized retailer of the brand that you want to buy. In my case BB was selling the 5080 for $3499.99, VA had it for $2599.00 including shipping, when I brought in the print out, BB did price match it and I saved $900.00.
I did have to pay the sales tax and delivery on top of the price, so the TV did actually cost me a little more, but BB did give me two years 0% financing so that made it worth the little extra money.
Couldn't get either of them to match non-authorized dealers. I know Sony will not allow their authorized dealers to sell below a certain price to protect their dealers. I ended up buying, after a lot of hassle, my Sony 60" XBR-2 for about 1100.00 below what CC or BB would sell it for and about 800.00 less than a local mom and pop would go. I did find the mom and pops would at least try to get closer to the non-authorized dealer price. I don't know about other companies but the reason their are so many non-authorized dealers for Sony is because they require very big annual sales commitments from their authorized dealers. If the dealer meets the commitment he not only dosen't take heat from Sony but gets 5% of volume cash back for hitting Sony sales targets. So, small Sony dealers move some product out the back door to the non-authorized dealers to get their volume up. Sony frowns on this behavior and would take the dealership away if they caught them. However, they will also honor their warranties even if you aquire the TV through the non-authorized method. Some other companies will not honor their warranties under these circumstances so beware of that.

MY FAULT.
River.
So I guess I can try but not trust them. I also read lot of complains online after googling on Best Buy's refusal to match price and finding one or other reason. One more question. Has anyone tried buying from websites showing up in "shop" link on CNet for the product? I see companies like Abe's of Maine, Butterfly Photo, PcVideo Online etc. selling TVs for much cheaper. Does any one have experience buying from these companies? (Not that best buy, ccity are great but I am just little scared to think of electronics world outside the box of them for expensive stuff!) The only websites so far I have trusted to buy anything more expensive than 1k online is Amazon or Buy.com.
Inputs?
I only have first hand knowledge of Abe's of Main. I've never bought from them but can tell you they have an actual warehouse in NJ where they stock product and it isn't just some guy with a web site working out of his house. They do make an effort to deliver what they sell.

I've found that the BB vs CC price matching works best when you play one off against the other. I picked up a Sony KDS 55A2020 in June at BB and was eventually able to cut off about $500 from the BB price because CC kept lowering theirs. The only reason I got it at BB was that they offered 3 years no interest.
Also, if you read the fine print at BB's website about price matching, it states something to the affect that BB will only price match "local" vendors withing 30 or 40 miles of a given store.
I too have seen posts here where BB matches an incredible price from an online merchant. You should try it again. A different salesperson or manager may give you a deal.
Good luck
I documented it here at this post:

But basically, I got the brand new 60A3000 for 2100 bucks w/o having to pay for shipping. The original price on this set is 3500 so I got a steal. TechDepot.com is an online store, but it is represented by OfficeDepot.
I've bought from this outfit with good results but nothing as large or expensive as a wide screen. I note they have one of the best prices on the A553000 Sony. I'm tempted to give them a try though I might attempt to get price matching from BB first.

the biggest of all the bigs in some parts of their business and have a retail building that takes up a whole city block in Manhatten (not counting a monster warehouse in the Brooklyn Navy yard). They are definitely an authorized Sony dealer and I can absolutely guarantee you that you will have no problem with them.

I will have to ad hoc here a bit since I can't find the post or the name of the person who shared the purchase story originally.
One of the best approaches I've read about getting a price match went along the lines of this, (to whoever posted this originally, please excuse my paraphrasing):
Once you are ready to buy and your shopping research is finished... Go to a rep and tell them you are ready to buy; what make and model you want and find out if it is in stock. Add your stand, cables or whatever else you intend to buy if anything. Any coupons etc should be presented as the order is written up but avoid discussion of the price until the end. Then once the sale is set in the reps mind and perhaps on paper, pull out your price match documentation. They are faced with matching the price on a TV they considered as “sold” or losing the sale. As a last resort I suppose you could walk if they don't give your request consideration.
I find it best to be friendly and courteous the entire time, even if they don’t match the price. If they won’t match, I’m disappointed; not angry. You never know when you might have to go back to that store.
Unless I hear of a better plan this is exactly how I expect to make my purchase. Thanks to whoever shared this story originally.

They have some set, various rules {some of which were correctly stated in previous posts}...
For "prior to the sale"... they will price match almost all advertised sale prices from most major retailers.
However...
*they must be an authorized manufacturer's retailer,
*with an actual brick and mortor store,
*with the item in stock,
*available for immediate pick up and
*store must offer a similar return policy {30 days is standard}.
If any of these items are missing it is not considered a ligitemate item for sale {and will be denied}.
For "after the sale"... They will give you a "price match" or give you a refund and resell you the item for the lower price {normally for 30 days}. This is actually little easier as they are obliged to honor this commonly touted sales tool.
Most of the time... the same store where you bought the item will lower the price themselves... just go back in 3 weeks so... and if the price is lower, you get it, just bring your reciept to a manager or customer service. They can not say no by law!
They hated that... hehehe
Good Luck JD!
How can your confirm that the vendor is an authorized manufacturer's retailer? Thanks
if you are buying a new TV they might price match an online price or try to come close to that price, I personaly will not price an online price dollar for dollar I will add at least 100 dollars for having a store and return policy, plus what ever the shipping and handling price is.
They do not have to price match online prices, but they do have a budget to hit, so they might try if you buy multible things.
as for getting a price match after the purchase, they only price match there own sale price or an big box store price in the same area.
price matching for Circuit City is 30 days
Best buy is 60 days
Ultimate Electronics is 60 days
NFM is 30 days
