by DwareJw - 7/30/07 1:31 PMI am new to the web design/marketing world. I have good positioning on yahoo/msn/ask but Google seems to not like my site. [URL=http://www.kvmsonline.com]kvmsonline.com[/URL] I am 1 2 or 3 on the other search engines for the search term "raritan kvms" but on google i am like 33. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Anyway, I'm sure nobody would query KVMs if they're trying to search for a KVM. Google has a tendency to make the OFFICIAL SITE almost always ranked first when searching a brand name.
Btw, I did a quick query on Google, Yahoo, and MSN for "raritan kvm" << without the s. Google ranks you 17th. And I didn't notice your site at the first 50 results in Yahoo. While MSN ranks you 35. Oddly though, if I searched for "raritan kvms", Google ranks you 6th, Yahoo 2nd, and MSN 1st.
It seems that search engines associates your site more with something called KVMS rather than KVM.

We are a small manufacturing company in Cleveland that makes foot switches and used to show up #1 or #2 on Google. Then, suddenly, about two years ago, we dropped to PAGE (not even ranking!) 10. We have been largely unable to figure out what is wrong. We have a good website as far as following the "rules" go and have a good amount of external links. Honestly I think that Google is a flawed product... it is an overrated piece of junk, becuase it doesn't work in our case. We should be on the first page (the content for a "foot switch" search is far lower quality than our site). We do use our web hoster to "share" its SSL certificate for our web cart, and I am wondering if that could be a problem. We are considering trying to host the site ourselves by buying a server. that'd be Google changing its algorithm

Most of the time, if not all of the time, these changes reflects what would be a better results for users (NOT FOR YOU, AS A WEBSITE OWNER). When I see it objectively, your site and the Google's top ranked site are comparably similar.

It doesn't work for your case... that's a VERY subjective point of view. You just can't see beyond you and your company. You hate it only because Google puts you down.

From what I see, there are still lots of flaws in your site. One of major one is the navigation bar that is located on the right side, most sites locate it on the left side, and it have almost become a convention that navigation are located on the left. The other major faults is the site doesn't describe at all what you're selling, you expect people to know what foot switch is and why people need them.
