I was thinking if a dvd player with standard definition 480i disc, can be really up converted to full HD 1080p if I'm using an HDTV monitor? I'm saying this because I've seen a dvd player with a 1080p up conversion. Would this really work wonders to my dvd collection?
Anyone have tried this yet? I like to have your comments or recommendations.
Thanks alot.
After getting my new LCD HDTV, I went ahead and for about 90 bucks bought a Panasonic 1080p upconverting DVD player. It was, in my view, well worth it, considering the format war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, this is an inexpensive workaround. While not "true" HD, it looks great and refreshes my existing DVD's so that they are not obsolete. Given the relatively low cost of this item vs. a high-def player, the cost of the HD DVD's, etc., this seems to make the most sense to me until or unless one format or another becomes dominant and there is more perceived benefit to hi-def DVD's as far as quality increased content. So I say, why not try it out--maybe someone you know has one and you can check it out--or bring in one of your DVD's to a store and see how it looks.
That sounds refreshing. Maybe I'll buy that DVD player with 1080p up conversion after all. Maybe it would be best at this time to wait and see which HD player would really dominate the market. Problem is, not all movies are out on both HD players. We'll have to make sacrifices in this case. I think I have seen the light of day in all of this format war again. Thank you for your honest and commendable reply.
