Is there a TV that has upconversion hardware in it?
by sup909 - 8/16/07 6:44 AMI have seen several amsp/recievers that have upconverting capabilities, and I have seen a plethora of DVD players that have the capability. Unforunately I have a very nice DVD player and Reciever already, but I am in the market for a new TV.
Are there any TV's that have upconverting capabilities themselves.

I'd just go with the abilities of your current hardware, the quality should be fine as long as the TV is of the same quality as the rest of your equipment

Whether this not true or not; really doesn't matter much because hardly any major brand except SAMSUNG still manufacture direct-view CRTs. Ask about the SAMSUNG SLIMFIT TX-T3093WH and TX-T3092,(both 30")
Check it out in case it is true.

If you have a 1080p set and feed it a 480i source it will scale (upconvert) to 1080p. Same thing if you have a 720p set.
An upconverting DVD player does this for you so that the TV does not have to do it. If you put a standard DVD in an upconverting player, it will scale it to 720p or 1080p and output that. Your TV will have to do no more conversion if it is fed its native resolution.
The problem is... which does a better job scaling the DVD? If the TV has a better scaler than the upconverting DVD player, you could actually get a worse picture. Keep using your old DVD player until you buy a high definition player.

The 42" would do the same thing. If you are interested in that unit and would like to save a lot of money go to my post "Got my Pioneer PDP5080HD....WOW", and see what I did to save $900.00!
