To fix, Adobe seems to be having a conflict with Microsoft Office.
NO need to remove Microsoft Office (if you are having problems with install, upgrade or removal)!
Follow these steps:
1) Open Regedit, (Start -> Run -> (type in) regedit
2) Inside Regedit go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Office
3) Right click on "10.0" folder and select "Export" (and save a copy to your desktop).
(You can do this for the other number folders (like 9.0, 11.0, 12.0) if you want to be sure).
4) Verify that the file(s) have been put on your desktop.
5) Next, delete the folder "10.0" (or the folders you exported) from with in the registry (right-click - delete, confirm)
6) Install, upgrade or remove Adobe Acrobat 8.0...when done...
7) Go to the desktop and click twice on the "10.0" file (and each of the other files) and add back to the registry!
8) You should verify that MS Office products still work, and Acrobat should work too! That's it!
SwissJay,
I followed your great tech tip and it completely fixed my Acrobat problem. I had been trying for days to resolve it. What I was wondering is, how did you know it was a Path problem? Did this show up in one of the Event logs?
The post you are responding to is more then 2 years old.

I'm not saying you did anything wrong, just bringing this to your attention in case you were unaware of the old date.I've brought this to peoples attention before and they acknowledged that they didn't notice the old date. ![]()

I have spent HOURS on this. A bad migration of Acrobat 8 using PC mover (DO NOT DO THIS! All other applications were fine.) Could not uninstall, could not repair, could not reinstall. Did all the stuff that adobe suggested and all the stuff that microsoft suggested and all the stuff I could find quickly on internet to first get the darned thing gone - after many hours and countless registry edits and reboots, i finally got it out - have mercifully forgotten how at this point. Then could not reinstall. Countless registry edits, reboots and really bad language.
My husband found this post finally and it worked fabulously. I hate Adobe, but have no choice unless someone knows another pdf editor/maker/etc. My undying gratitude.
After days and days of agony, your advise was the only one that worked! You should publish it more. I will mention it on other blogs.
