Cheaper phones

by ecterry - 8/16/07 9:34 AM In reply to: 1 year warranty by BaptistKitty

In my limited opinion it appears the phone companies are going in the wrong direction...Instead of better service and phone quality they're making phones into cameras, game systems, computer messaging as well as e-mail extensions to name but a few non-phone additions.
Make a higher qquality phone with better service and even perhaps lower rates...heck, I'd even pay a little more for this so they wouldn't have to market toys....that's another area altogether. Get out of the PHONE market. Murf

I can't use my Verizon phone in my home. (AT&T is even worse.) If I walk about a half mile away, I can get a little service, but have to drive about 15 minutes to get service that allows an actual conversation.

What would make me switch cellular carriers?

by Preacher43 - 8/15/07 5:10 PM In reply to: What would make you want to switch cellular carriers? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If the company lied or deceived me; if it was necessary that I investigate the minuscule print in the contract in order to keep from being "ripped off" then I would change my plan... if I can't trust you I don't have to do business with you!

Service, costs and better phones

by colette smith - 8/16/07 5:39 AM In reply to: What would make me switch cellular carriers? by Preacher43

AT&T may have the better phones but their customer service and response to problems is horrible. Maybe if they would work on these items they might do better.

I prefer Verizons customer service hands down, my only problem is they need to make sure that there are more business phones and stop catering to kids, cellphones first and foremost are a business tool. What good is the cell phone for the kids when the parents and other adults are the ones who are working and creating the business to service these companies.

Think about that!

Phone first, rate second, extras last

by KaplanMike - 8/15/07 5:13 PM In reply to: What would make you want to switch cellular carriers? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Even leaving the iPhone out of the discussion for the moment (I know, it's next to impossible), if the perfect phone for my needs is only available through one carrier, I'd have to give serious consideration to switching carriers. My wife switched to T-Mobile after they launched the first Sidekick (the best keyboard at the time, and probably still, for heavy e-mail use). Similarly, I'll be switching over to AT&T within the next few months when I upgrade to the iPhone (see, couldn't help myself).

If everyone offered the Sidekick, I'd be shopping for the best rate plan for my needs -- low minutes, high data, no SMS -- and if I could save $10 a month, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

In actuality I have changed carriers recently because of a move and my previous carrier Cingular/AT&T may have the fewest dropped calls but when you get away from the major cities and highway corridors their system doesn't drop calls it has no coverage. Not even a roaming agreement where I live.

Carrier services, features and coverage counts

by 0rland0 - 8/15/07 5:23 PM In reply to: What would make you want to switch cellular carriers? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Carrier services, features and coverage counts more than anything else. I say this because even if I owned the most sophisticated, feature-rich cell, it will be next to useless in making a call if my carrier has lousy service. A phone can be bought/upgraded easily.

Better rate plans

by Siege - 8/15/07 5:24 PM In reply to: What would make you want to switch cellular carriers? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If someone offered unlimited Internet access both with the phone as well as using the phone with my laptop as a modem for an affordable price I would switch. I'm quite happy with my current carrier and haven't had any problems with them outside of the occasional billing mistake which they fixed as soon as well called them.

My wife and I will switch out of Verizon at the end of this year so we
can use our cell phones in Europe and elsewhere.

Voice plans. Service.

by hawaiiinsomniac - 8/15/07 5:27 PM In reply to: What would make you want to switch cellular carriers? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have had all of the carriers from Voicestream, T-mobile, Sprint, Verizon, and now currently AT&T.

I actually like AT&T. There isn't anything really great about AT&T, then again, there really isn't anything bad about AT&T. They have amended their text messages plan to make more money, but what carrier hasn't done that. AT&T still provides roll-over minutes which really works great those certain months I choose to babble off the deep end.

AT&T does have a great selection of phones. The Curve, iPhone, 8525 and great exclusive phones to AT&T.

I am however thinking of switching to T-mobile, not because of a phone. I normally buy my phones unlocked, as I hate being stuck with a carrier for 2 years. T-mobile has the new WIFI plan with their phones, and as soon as they have other phones besides a lower end Nokia and Samsung phone, I might join the bandwagon. How about a Nokia N series phone, T-mobile? or a Blackberry Curve? I'd be even happy with a Sony Ericsson W810i. As soon they have a nice quad-bnad phone, T-mobile, here I come.

Customer Service

by Gee_Gee1 - 8/15/07 6:29 PM In reply to: Voice plans. Service. by hawaiiinsomniac

I had a recent customer service experience at T-Mobile with both their 1-800# and one of their corporate stores.

They were pleasant, professional and well trained.....at repeating their policy. However...what really got me is that BOTH at their 1-800# and their "corporate" store...they told me that "they" were not customer service...they just passed the issues to customer service?

1. I don't care about their policy beyond how it affects "me"

2. I don't care about the termination fee...paying out the $200 bucks at this point still means they will lose more money than I will on the balance of the contract because I've only been with them less than 6 months. I may not find another plan I like as well...but at least I wouldn't be paying the money to "them"

3. I love the 5 Fav plan. I have been a walking/talking advertisement for them...until now. I figure that will at least get them 5 customers into one of their stores who may not have otherwise considered them. Most of the people I know have kids so would be potential "family plan" If they sold those 5 people and they stayed with them 2-4 years.........

4. I was with my last carrier 10 years

5. When someone has a "poor" customer service experience they tell twice the number of people than they do when they have a "good" customer service experience.

6. When I calculated it out...I figure the above "could" cost them around $30,000 in potentially "lost" revenue...which in the end makes me feel a lot better.

Funny thing is...when I started out...I really didn't have any expectations of them...but they were "so" concerned at explaining their policy and avoiding doing anything close to the "right" thing it couldn't help but make me walk away with that "I just wasn't treated quite right" feeling.

Many Things

by Lou11 - 8/15/07 5:30 PM In reply to: What would make you want to switch cellular carriers? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I didn't vote in the poll as I have many reasons and one reason doesn't really win over the other. It is the service in the area you use your phone most, how cheap the plans are and what they offer, customer support, and it all depends on what you need and want.
