Looking into a RIZR Z3 Unlocked!

by Gray x6MWDx - 8/11/07 10:53 PM

Aight so my pops would rather not have me signed with tmobile since he is already contracted with sprint. So is it true that if you have a unlocked cell phone that it will work with ANY company?

Also what is 3G support?
As far as all the features are listed with the cell phone...will any of that change due to me setting things up with a different company other than t-mobile?

Also about this rizr z3 unlocked....what would you guys say is the most reliable and good priced place to buy a rizr Z3 unlocked from? And is it worth it to get any type of warranty on the phone itself?

And this last question most likely cannot be answered since its prolly a matter of opinion but..

Which company would you guys say has the LEAST drop calls? And also how about service plans?

Thanks for all help in advance as I am finally getting a great phone as opposed to my metroPCS standard flip phone which has terrible reception and NO special features...strictly a cell phone made for just calls....and lately due to my service it has not been doing that too well.

Also I am sure the area I live in is important to know about...

West Palm Beach, Florida.

Thanks.

Unlocked doesn't mean that a phone can be used with ANY carrier. Unlocked is type of GSM phone. Sprint is not a GSM carrier. It is CDMA. So, you wont be able to use a rizr on sprint but you could but it from t-mobile and use it on a pre-paid account. T-Mobile isnt 3G anyway. 3G is high speed data on a phone. if you plan on buying a rizr, buy straight from t-mobile or ebay. Since you can get an unlocked rizr, you can use it on AT&T.
hAVE you seen the billboards? AT&T has the fewest dropped calls, supposedly...

wow! well what are my options now?

by Gray x6MWDx - 8/12/07 6:55 PM In reply to: gotta tell ya by wliang

Yo man you really just broke me down....dreams and all crushed. haha. All good tho.

Aight so I am looking for a slider CDMA phone(since I can only go with sprint atm) and I really like the RIZR Z3, but since its GSM I am now looking at the MotoRokr Z6m which is the same type phone with better features as far as I have read and it is CDMA. So I can use it with sprint or metroPCS correct?

Also if I wanted to just buy a CDMA phone without any contract and just strait up pay retail I can use it with any CDMA carrier?

Also you seem well informed. I want a phone with the best quality MP3 player...2 megapixel camera or higher...and a sleek and nice style...touchpad is pretty hot too...I like the slider look THE BEST.

With those wants...what would you say are my options??

Also here is that motorokr Z6m CDMA phone. I am not sure what you might know about this phone...but would you know if the MP3 is better quality sound and features...and does it take any better pictures than the rizr z3?

http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=3245

Would buy any chance now how much it cost? wait, is it even out yet?

Help me out here yo.

Thanks for any further input.

I usually dont show my young side on these forums but i might be able to get through to you if I do. Aiight man, youre gonna go with sprint fa sho right? if so, you gotta get a phone that sprint carries. you caint be takin other phones with different technologies and usin dem on other networks. aint gonna work. ya feel me? i know about the rokr z6 but not too familiar with da z6m. i dunno wut carrier its gonna release on. CDMA phones hafta match technology and carrier frequency. you want a tight phone, gonna have to go on the carrier that its compatible with. metro is weak bro. stay with sprint at least, they are high rated. if you like tha rizr so much, just go with a gsm carrier. im thinkin rokr z6m may be too high end for metro. stay with the respectable carriers..knawm sayin?
good luck

Haha. Aight so...

by Gray x6MWDx - 8/13/07 7:58 AM In reply to: REE-Ply by wliang

I don't quite understand all the CDMA/GSM stuff but I do get the gist of it. So EVEN if I find a nice CDMA phone it still will NOT ALWAYS be compatible with ANY CDMA carrier? It still needs to match frequency and all?

Also as far as the major carriers go. Could you list me all the respectable CDMA/GSM carriers? I believe theres only verizon, sprint, tmobile,AT&T,and maybe another 1 or 2 right?

Another thing I am concerned about is that this phone is suppose to be available Q3 2007(I have no idea what that means)so why have I not seen prices, pre-orders, or anything of that nature yet?

Man if its not out and is about to come out I really hope sprint picks this one up.That way i can get a plan/2yrContract and get the phone alot cheaper. Otherwise I will buy at retail price. And how does this guy at the link I sent you know so much about the GSM version of the phone and has taken pics with it, but I can't find it to buy anywhere....NOT TO MENTION get a price estimate!

The Phone is JUST like the rizr z3! Only everywhere where the rizr was lacking the rokr is excelling! The blurriness on the camera supposedly was fixed along with the new(more user-friendly)user interface and also much better MP3 player capabilities and up to 2GB of removeable storage.

Thanks again for all input.

Bottom line on CDMA

by sting7k - 8/13/07 8:32 AM In reply to: Haha. Aight so... by Gray x6MWDx

Hey gray this is confusing but hopefully this will help you. Basically if you want to use Sprint or Verizon which both use CDMA networks you will have to buy a phone directly from them. Both sprint and verizon have all features for phones on their networks locked down and even use their own phone OS. If you go to them with one you bought somewhere else for CDMA they most likely will not activate it for you to use unless it is branded as a sprint phone (or verizon if you go to them).

Your only other option is a GSM phone which AT&T and Tmobile both operate GSM networks. You could buy an unlocked rizr on ebay and go buy a pay-as-you-go plan from AT&T or Tmobile and they will give you a sim card. You then just put the sim card into your phone and your off. Your rizr will then work and you won't need any contracts.

Yea that sucks but that is just how it works.

still helping

by wliang - 8/13/07 8:55 AM In reply to: Haha. Aight so... by Gray x6MWDx

ok, i do not know when the rokr z6m will come out on a carrier. dont even know which carrier. may be a while, maybe even a year. the rokr z6 isnt on a carrier but you can buy it unlocked. sprint is getting the new razr2. check it out on cnet. another question, do you have to have sprint? your father wont let you have a different carrier? ask him why? pricing would be the about the same depending on plan on any carrier. the rokr z6, not the z6m can be bought from places like ebay. the only way you can get a rokr z6 is if you get a gsm carrier. Thats AT&T or t-mobile. PLUS, the z6m isnt really that different from its GSM brother. ROKR Z6!!! GSM CARRIER!!!! GET ON THAT HYPE!!!!!!!

well dang

Pops does not want an extra bill coming to the house from a separate cell phone service(he has contract with sprint) EVEN IF I PAY FOR IT because since im only 17 I can't have the contract in my name and he does not want to deal with that. So I am VERY limited atm.

after looking at the RAZR2 that looks like what I will get. seems to have all I need in it. Thanks alot!

One question about the RAZR2....up to how much extra MicroSD memory can I put in this baby?

well...dang...and another dang

by Gray x6MWDx - 8/13/07 6:21 PM In reply to: ok by wliang

sadly the phone is gonna be $250 with sprint contract!!! I'm sorry I just don't think that this enhanced razr...although nice deserves a $250 buck price tag. ($300 with AT&T) I guess only time will tell.

Yet and still it sucks so much that I can't have a 2.0 megapixel camera/music phone.

I basically wanted a phone with a MP3 player so good that it can be a replacement for a standalone. Also a 2.0 megapixel camera for self portraits and different things alike.

The Rizr z3 and the soon to come rokr really seem to do the job. Hopefully the rokr z6m will coem to sprint and not verizon wireless as they already have a phone either on par with the z6m or possibly better. that phone being the new Chocolate which can hold up to 4gb removeable storage. a 1.3 megapixel camera, but the quality is better than many 2.0 megapixel cameras, and ofcourse it has a sleek design and style of the type phone I want.

Only time will tell. ATM I would say my dream phone is the motorokr Z6m and hoping that it will come to sprint, but like you said it might be a freaking YEAR!

Thanks for all input!

well, when parents are uptight about stuff like that, it kinda helps that we as americans have free speech. of course each carrier cant get every phone. and each carrier has their limitations. start praying!

Maybe some light shall be shed!

by Gray x6MWDx - 8/15/07 3:38 PM In reply to: oh well by wliang

BOTH of my sisters said they will both offer to add lines and that it wont be any burden on him. All they need is for him to give the ok. I just really don't want to be tied down to a company that I don't trust...has no plans I really like...and no phones AT ALL that I like...cept for a razr2 which will cost me a arm and a leg EVEN with the freaking contract...and its not even out yet.

So they said they will both talk to him to try and convince him to get me up with them at tmobile and I really hop it works out.

ATM I have metro and I don't even use it in the daytime...because all my ppls have mins and they start unlimited at 9pm....Like I will when I have tmobile...on top of that...on my sister's line the have 1000 anytime mins...which I know I wont use. So im good.

but since I could possibly be goin wit tmobile....can you alert me on some slider phone options? a good camera..great MP3 player and a slider? or atleast sumthin slick. haha
