DVRs

by HistoryKing1781 - 8/9/07 3:23 PM

I have no experience with DVRs and was wondering if someone could explain them to me. I was wondering how much they cost monthly and if there are HD DVRs. If anyone knows of a free DVR system please reply thank you.

they have an interal HDD & when you save stuff it goes to that, you can also pause, fwd, rwd, skip fwd & backwrd.

Cost mine is $7 dvr month + if something happend it is replace free. I am on my 3 dvr in 5 years. Yes there are HDDVR's. Cost if your a new customer you can sometime get them free or for a small fee like $50, but if your a curent customer they (dishnetworks) wants $299 but if you call them and be a 'hard a$$' you get it cheaper.

Yes you can get DVD-RW players with built in HDD, the good about having the DVD-RW built in that when you rec something you like or when your HDD is full, you back it up for the long term. Costs around $200-400 & no there an NO HD versions

I love my DVR

I highly recommend that you get a DVR. It's one of those things that until you get it, you don't know what you're missing. Then once you get one, you never want to be without it again. Besides the time shifting recording ability, the thing I love the most, and use all the time is the ability to pause live shows and do an instant rewind to check out something I might have missed. Dish, DirecTV, and all the cable systems all offer HD DVRs. I pay $5.00 a month for mine, and it's worth it.

Tivo HD

by bmgoodman - 8/10/07 12:18 PM In reply to: DVRs by HistoryKing1781

If you have cable or over-the-air analog or digital, look at Tivo HD. It can be had for around $250 plus service. (Do not confuse Tivo HD with Tivo Series 3, also HD. The latter is a Lexus-type product.) The Tivo costs more than your cable company's box, but most people will not regret the extra expenditures once the Tivo is experienced. One example: The Tivo will save your spot in EVERY show. Most cable company DVRs will only save your spot in one or perhaps two shows. If you have multiple family members, this limitation of the cable company box will drive you crazy. The Tivo will also let you stream pictures and music to your entertainment center. Finally, the Tivo HD is going to be user-upgradeable (by late 2007) by connecting an external eSATA drive.
