I seem to have contracted a virus which will cause my computer to restart once it gets to a certain point in the bootup. It must be somewhere in the my documents folder because if I create a new account in safe mode and then reboot, that new account will not restart the first time it boots up. I have tried to use my XP discs to do a clean install, but it will give me a black screen once it gets to the part where it says setup is starting windows. I need some alternatives. What is the name of a program that I can put on a floppy and have erase all of my partitions?
- system restore in the new account
- deleting the old account from the new account (that's less than a partition)
Both in safe mode, of course.
Such a program, by the way, is DBAN.
Might work.

ZAP 63, comes as a package in whats called 'Morguds eraser suite' never leave home without it.
I tried doing system restore, but I cant do that either. I will try out those partition programs though.
boot in safe mode and click start , programs , open the startup folder this should be empty , i had a virus like yours it was in the this startup folder . if you have not run your virus checker in safe mode run it. hope this helps .toap
Virus on disk, no problem go to http://dban.sourceforge.net/ and get the app called Darik's Boot and Nuke. Make the boot disk and away you go. Nothing can stop this baby from a complete wipe of your hard drive. No fuss no muss.
There is not a lot that can stop this from working. You can get it from www.killdisk.com I wish you luck.
use blanco. sdelete or killdisk to erase your hard drive and then re-install windows. try backing up data in windows safe mode
PURPOSE: To format (erase HDD)
then shutdown to clear RAM
for a "clean install"
1. Check/remove passwords in BIOS.
2. Find a boot disk that works:
_try another XP disk....after format completed
it allows a few seconds to shutdown by power-off.
_try a 98SE or ME boot floppy..these will not work for NTFS
but can be used to remove the partition(s)...
be sure to shutdown and then repartition and format with XP disk.
_try the HDD manufactures boot utility disks.
_try some other boot disk.
Good luck with it...
Kill Disk is another software program that will completely wipe a disk. Powergistics uses Kill disk but it takes a L O N G time to wipe a drive. BJ
