Lenovo seems to be having serious issues with their shipment promises and supply chain management. I feel they are deceiving their customers into a indefinite waiting spree. May be a new marketting strategy to manage their revenue projections. I wonder what ERP/ASCP system they use to give the promise(!) dates.
When I was reviewing the long awaited T61P (its another story as far as the T61P release dates...), the website clearly mentioned that it ships in 1-2 weeks.
So,
1. I ordered my T61P on 7/13/2007.
2. On order confirmation, I was shown an estimated ship date (ESD) of
7/26/2007
3. On 7/17, they shipped my docking station and provided a new ESD of
08/01/2007 for my T61P.
4. Last night, they sent me an apology mail and said it would take another 1-30 days delays.
5. Today, the order status shows an ESD of 09/03/2007.
6. I guess... by 9/3 it will be a different date!

Just checked with the Lenovo Rep. Not a useful conversation; mostly aplologies and a reason: "20 business days of 15.4" screen supply backlog.
Anyone else with the same situation?
When Lenovo was a part of IBM, they were using SAP R/3. Still believe they are on it. Can't recall the MRP.
Most of the current Lenovo execs were hired from Dell. They are transitioning to a JIT model for non-standard builds. Any customization moves you into a lead time queue. Quicker delivery is available with standard pre-built configuration, but even then there might be constraints due to parts. I heard that the long lead time item with the T61p is the screen. I too ordered a T61p on 7/23/07. EDD is 9/27/07. Of course, I customized heavily and called to order the Thinkpad 11 a/b/g/n card which was not even offered on the website. The sales rep warned me that the WiFi adapter I wanted was a long lead time part.
Also, the box is simply a hot box right now. Corporate customers are getting priority.
Hang in there. When we do finally get our machines, I am sure we'll be happy with our choices.
Revenue projections are one thing, but actual revenue is what counts. And SOX driven revenue recognition rules will restrict them from realizing the revenue until they ship.
The avaialble 4965AGN option takes care of (802.11a,b,g,n). Is there a reason why you have to call or it didn't show up when you ordered?

In doing some research on notebookreview and thinkpads.com, it appeared users were generally more satisfied and got better ranges with the Thinkpad 11 a/b/g/n adapter. It was available on a T60 model, but not T61p. So... I called and asked... more out of curiousity. The rep simply said they had been having supply issues with the part so that was why they were not offering it right away but it is in fact, still available. Since I am not in a rush (my current Thinkpad works fine) I chose the Thinkpad branded adapter. It just means my fiance doesn't get the hand-me down laptop as soon ![]()
I am not sure what's happening:

The delays are because they have a huge backlog on the LCD panel to support the WUXGA resolution. You might want to consider downgrading to a unit with a WSXGA screen - it's the exact same 15.4" T61P configuration but with the slightly lower resolution screen, which Lenovo has been recently marketing.
I agree that the high resolution screens were the problem item, because after a short absence, the t61p is back up on the Lenovo products site but there is no longer an option for the WUXGA (1920x1280) panel. The only option I see is for WSXGA+ (1680x1050).
I finally received it! After all the delays, they actually delivered it ahead of their last promised date: 08/20/2007.
Nice one... Unfortunately had to downgrade to XP Pro due to compatibility issues.
Yes, delays. I ordered by laptop from Lenovo (

August 10. Today it is Oct 10 and my est. ship date (according to the website) is Oct 30! After a few calls to customer support I now understand a few interesting things:
1) If they say the est ship date on the website is wrong, they are wrong.
2) If they say the est ship date on the site is right, they are wrong.
3) If they say they will call you back with updated information, they are lying.
4) The call center doesn't have a supervisor on the floor. I imagine phone operators drinking beer in the Bangalore heat without fear of repercussions.
5) On the 2nd call they finally identified a backlog on wuxga screens as the cause for the delays.
6) The phone number given in status emails (1(866)428-4465) is the only number in town, you can't be transferred to someone who can give you more useful information.
Finally, as consolation they offered me a credit of an undisclosed amount. So, if the laptop ever ships they then may offer me a credit of 1 cent to X dollars.
I urge all masochists to order a Lenovo laptop today!
