Hi Shahinc,
Thanks I managed to get the right Intel drivers and slipstreamed the drivers in.
the Laptop is working like a dream now.. the only problem I am experiencing now is playing DVD's as the Medicentre is only vista compatible. what did you do ? Waht program do you use ?
I have tried Windows Media player 11 however it wont recognise any of my DVD's ???
VLC Player (Free)
Intervideo's WinDVD (Not Free)
Cyberlink's PowerDVD (Not Free)
Personally, I like WinDVD for it's picture quality but it's up to you.
Hope this helps.

I have bought a Lenovo Y410 which is made for Vista. The dealer installed XP on it. Now there are some problems like laptop hangs while shutting down with a message - 'Windows Is Shutting Down', some hot keys don't work etc.
How this can be solved?
Ask for fix or refund.

After 5 months of using my Vista upgrade, I went back to XP. I used my system restore cd, and for the most part, went well. I did have to remove the cables from my extra harddrive, because it wanted to install Vista on my backup harddrive. Other than that all went well.
Went back to XP mostly becasue of Itunes. Even after all upgrades, Video is still choppy.
I recently bought an HP dv6500t Special Edition laptop. It came with Vista and after trying it for a bit, I decided that it was far too troublesome to deal with, and not worth keeping. So I now want to put Windows XPSP2 on it.
I'm new at deleting old OSs and then applying new ones, so I really need help with this task. I am determined to get this abomination of an OS off of my laptop.
The real problem I have is that I am limited to the help I recieve from friends because I will be leaving for college in 10 days, so I need this done as soon as possible.
Please tell me what I have to do in order to complete this task, I saw nothing about the dv6500t discussed in this topic, so I'm asking you guys now.
Thanks for your cooperation all, I look forward to responses.
Most of the DV6000 family are similar and the above advice should help. It has the same Intel chipset as many of the others and the Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS has been discussed as well, specifically regarding Thunderhead1's DEll. The posts above will give you the needed information and the links that should allow you to download the appropriate drivers and install the new OS.. In addition to all the other downloadable stuff, you'll need to purchase an XP SP2 CD...
Hope this helps.

you should get answers to most, if not all, of your questions there.
Is this thread still alive?
Im having some problems with the network card on my HP dv9266ea (dv9000). Downloaded and installed the xp drivers from hp.com but the program called quits after a few seconds during the install.
What can I do to remedy this?
The only way I can access the hp computer now is via a memory card. So If I need any type of instalation libs let me know, cause this is starting to be a real pain in the a**.
Any tips?
You don't really mention in your post, but is this a downgrade from Vista to XP.. When you installed XP, did you install XP SP2? If not, then please do so.. I'm finding that SP2 is a must in such things. Is it a full, legal, version of XP SP2?
Before you installed the XP network card drivers, did you also check the Vista drivers for the card and write down which ones it had orignally? What is the card's actual device name? Which driver was installed on Vista? For wireless network adapters, some of the HP's require the Broadcom driver... Other's require the Intel Pro:

For your ethernet card, did you try the Intel Pro V100 from the link below?:

Hope this helps and let us know more.

Hi, my name is John and I am currently trying to help my friend with the DV6500 series laptop. Me and my friend Aaron has looked at all the posts that were stated before, but are still unsure about the process. The problem is, since it is a $1500 machine, I am scared that i will mess up the laptop. we have the recovery CDs though.
Is it possible for you to post a step by step process to downgrade to XP. My friend Aaron has never really used the x86 computers for dban.
It would be a great help if you can give us a step by step process.
Thank You in Advance for your help.
~John
Here are a couple of links but unfortunately, there's no "sure thing" here..
Paolopaed, I Recently Did It This Way..
Mattraka, Which HP Model Is The Computer..?
Mattraka, I Had With BUS Drivers Too, Here's ...
The Dban instructions for use are at the Dban site. You need to do the research BEFORE starting the downgrade process and then go for it when you think you're ready.
Hope this helps.

You will need another computer with partition magic or Randish partition manager.
The easiest method us to not wipe/erase the hard drive you have but rather replace it with a one of equal or slightly greates size and speed.
You will also need to download all the XP drivers for your model laptop.
You will need winRAR and universal extractor to unpack all the Drivers.
Save the original Drive on tact until you are sure you no longer need it. It will make a good backup drive later to save your files on.
These are the basics.
Do your homework and backup everything.
Partition the new hard drive into five partitions plus one additional partition for each additional OS.
Partition 0 booting (C:) 600mb
Partition1 Swapfile (D:) 4.25 times the size of your RAM
Partition2 OS1 (E:) 12000 - 15000MB
Partition3 OS1 12000 - 15000MB optional for dual boot
Partition4 OS1 12000 - 15000MB Optional for triple boot
Partition5 Program Files 10000-20000MB
Partition6 Documents 10000MB or greater.
Partition7 Downloads 8000 - 11000MB optional but a great place to isolate downloaded files and virus scan them.
Shut off native SATA drivers in your BIOS.
Install new Drive.
npack all your drivers with winRAR or U.E.
CReate a slipstreamed version of XP using Nlite with your DRivers
Install nlited XP SP2 or XP SP3
Or
Install XP SP2 or XP SP3 then install drivers manually.
This is usually harder. Create restore points before each driver is installed.
Redirect your program files and your documents to the dedicated new drives. Create restore points.

Grif, after reading through these 14 pages, I've concluded that you're an angel. Or at least a really nice person.
That said, I have a few questions:
1. I don't have XP CDs, per se. I have the XP OS recovery CD that came with my former laptop. It installs XP fresh. My former laptop is thoroughly ; will Microsoft send the cops after me for using that version of XP on my new downgraded laptop?
2. Someone mentioned not having SATA trouble when downgrading with an AMD chipset. I have an AMD; can anyone confirm that I won't have to worry about SATA drivers?
3. Same user mentioned not wiping partitions and managing successfully. Can anyone confirm that I won't have to wipe my partitions? That jeopardizes my warranty.
4. If I do wipe the partitions and decide to return to Vista (not likely, but let's be prepared), the Vista recovery DVD that I burn using their backup feature will work *even after I wipe their recovery partition*?
Thanks tons! I appreciate everyone who posted information here.
