Well worth it, my 4th laptop in 7 years, and the best so far, I have it connected to my HD Direct Tv Satellite Box and have recorded a lot of programs and I love the builtin tivo with the media center.

Wow, you might as well have been advertising that laptop wth all the info you gave on it. I got a pretty similar laptop (but 1.73ghz Intel Centrino core duo, 1g ram, 1g video mem, 120g hdd, and home premium 32x). It was selling like hotcakes that day at Comp USA because of the $400 rebate (leaving it at $800).
HP Compaq tc4200
$2119.00
This is the best pc i have owned thus far. It's worth the price tag!! It's a bit high but for $3000 i got what i paid for.
Overall it's been a good laptop for the price. Slow as hell (256) but it does what I needed it to do at the time. Looking to upgrade to a tablet laptop. That one will definetly be a Toshiba.
Toshiba A135-S4677, Vista Home Premium, Intel Dual Core T2080 Processor, 1GB Ram, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD Super Multi Drive, 15.4" Widescreen, WIFI, 5 in 1 card reader. I'm very pleased with it........................ HPXP
Intel Core 2 Duo T7400. 4gigs ram (add on). Hitachi 160 gb sata. dvd writer. nVidea GeForce 7700. 14.4 inch screen. 1.3 megapixel camera. windows vista ultimate (thinking of going back to professional...)
total price was about $4189.99 including the upgraded memory. just purchased this month, totally worth it. throw out your old desktop cuz this replaces everything. great for students like me.
Best Buy had the Gateway MT6711 on sale last week for $499. No rebates. Hell of a deal .... Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU (repeat, not Celeron, and true dual core), 160GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, DVD burner (+/- and dual layer), Vista Home PREMIUM (not basic), Video system (GMA950) that runs Vista's Aero Glass, 15.4" widescreen LCD, Firewire port, Flash memory card reader, PC Card slot (PC Card, not Express Card), and all of the "usual stuff" (WiFi, wired network, modem, 4 USB ports, sound, etc.). And I've since found out how to load XP on it so that EVERYTHING ... absolutely everything ... works with no splats or unknown devices in device manager.
Hell of a deal, really, and they had them nationwide in fairly good quantity (but this sale was LAST week, sorry).
I bought the Compaq F527 which is about the same setup except no firewire or Pcmcia slot, which I wished it did have. I wished I would have bought the Gateway. My Compaq is real lap burner, hope I don't become sterile, LOL! Are there any laptops that don't run hot?
The problem I have found with most modern "Laptops" is they have become so thin, they have to put the venting on the bottom of the machine. If you don't place the "Laptop" on a table and set it on your lap instead, you end up covering the cooling vents! My old thick and heavy IBM 390X Celeron-400 ThinkPad has the venting on the edges. It barely even gets warm after several hours! Maybe they should quit calling the new machines "Laptops", and start more correctly calling them "Portable Table Tops".
It came from Dell, so I appreciate that I was able to configure it as I wanted to (2G Ram and dedicated video card, 17.5" display, Win Vista Premium
Now if I could only figure out how to print using my network and Win Vista I'd be OK!
Paid $1300 for a Sony VGN - FS550.

...for a Lenovo T60 Core 2 Duo T5500, WSXGA+ 15.4" screen, 120GB SATA150 drive, and Dual Layer DVD Burner, 1GB PC5300, a/b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and Vista Business, with over 6 months IBM Warranty left on it (and plan to extend it four years). Currently own four T42 (family of five). Extremely pleased with reliability, form factor and human factor engineering, and IBM warranty support when needed. I run Linux (several distributions), WXP Pro and now Vista Business, and find the systems to be fully supported, out of the box. Recommend KUBUNTU Gutsy Gibbon if you want to gauge where Linux mobile support has matured to.
i paid $569 for my everex stepnote nc1500 with winxp2.
I love my MBPro. Fast, quiet, and that fit and finish Apple is famous for. I have a compaq laptop too. It squeeks and creaks when you move it around. I do a lot of graphic design, web design, photoshop work on my MBPro and it always works great.
