How many functioning PCs do you have

by skipreb - 7/30/07 12:05 PM In reply to: Poll: How many functional computers do you have at home? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

My wife and I each have a desk top Gateway. I have a desktop replacement laptop. All are Gateways and networked with WI-FI. Each has a separate email address. All have the same hardware and software for redundancy. I had to replace one HD after 5 years. My laptop has over 50,000 miles on it from motorcycle trips. No problems. All have XP Pro, Office 2003, AVT, Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot, Nero, Street Atlas 2003, Adobe Elements. We have no messenging service and use Earthlink as our provider. We maintain 2-3 times a week and have never had a virus or glitch. I use the KISS principle and don't clutter with free-bees. We have a Comcast Cable Hi-Speed modem. Good support.

We have 3 computers at home. Most used is a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop that my wife uses constantly. I use a Dell Latitude C840 laptop, but not constantly. Then there's a Toshiba Portege my wife uses when travelling.

Brief details.

by 1Denis - 8/1/07 10:58 PM In reply to: Poll: How many functional computers do you have at home? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

1 a Dell desktop purchased August 2004. Trouble started when I started to add on programs, especially diagonistic programs. To restore it to its original state (Windows Professional XP)I have had to completely re-format it TWICE. When will I learn to add new programs with wisdom? Hopefully now!! Lost all data 1st time I re-formatted so learn from me and BACK-UP COMPLETELY BEFORE submitting computer to a repair place. When working okay the only annoying thing I experience is that sometimes a document can be slow to open.
The keyboard after a lot of use has started to pack it in by not giving a capital 'S' first time I want it. So I have just replaced it a few weeks ago (about 6) with a CHEAP (about $35.00 Australian)Microsoft keyboard. Already (!) its starting to show signs of wear!! The "Shift" key (l.h.s.) and the "Ctl" key (l.h.s.), because I use them so much, are starting to become faint with sweat. The original Dell keyboard stood the test of time and looked okay until the day I replaced it.

"more than ten" - I don't know about you all ...

by Ck87.JF - 8/2/07 11:28 AM In reply to: Poll: How many functional computers do you have at home? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

... but I've got:
*four televisions,
*three cell phones (when Grandma's home from California),
*one microwave oven,
*a window fan with temperature control,
*two portable land-line phones (Uniden brand),
*a modem & a router,
*a few VCRs & a DVD player,
*an xbox,
*oh, and two desktop personal computers (once I get mine running again). :D

So, my total is 20 computers. Not to mention those that I forgot, and the devices that have multiple computers within one device.
Soon, I hope to add to that list, making a Macbook number 21.

I'll leave ya with a definition ...
Computer: a programmable machine that inputs, processes and outputs data
