Here is one thing for sure you should know waiting for an upcoming Laptop is not a good either.
Here is what should be thinking about:
Know the feature you want in a Laptop and do some petty research on the area you are going to. Like how far have they gone with internet over there, that is if you need one.
Spec is always important and durability. And thinking of upgradeslook for Manufacturer that always allow easy upgrades.
Knowing the right spec will readily take care of ur music and every other things you want to use it for.
It is not really complsory for one to buy a highend laptop when you are never going to use 1/10th of its use.
I knew that Santa Rosa was coming out. I purchased the mamouth Acer 9810-6829 core 2 duo because I fell in love with it when I saw it at Comp-USA. I saw it and researched the web to see how the system was rated. I decided i was going to get it. One day I went to Comp-USA to actually play with the thing. There was a sing all laptops 10% off. I made the purchase because the average price for this laptop was around 3000 and i got it for 2700. Then the next week Comp-USA ran an ad in the paper advertising the laptop for 2599. I contacted Comp-USA about matching that price and a week later I got a credit to card in the mail.
I have just bought a new one because my 3 year old daughter tipped a can of cola into my old one. When I say old, it was only 5 months old when it got fried. Ow well, these things happen for a reason and I am much happier with my new one.
The 'old one' was a Centrino 2.2ghz and was very quick with 1gb ram, probably faster than my P4 3.0HT desktop but it struggled with multitasking. The new one is a centrino duo (2 x 1.6) with 2gb ram and I can burn a dvd whilst running music sequencing software at the same time without eve a hint of slowdown!
Watch out for the card slots though if buying a new laptop!
I didn't and the new one has an ExpressCard/54 slot, where as my
PCMCIA sound card I use for DJing was a Cardbus type 2 card so will not fit my new one. oops.
