Under 150 dollars would make it tempting. Having Dual format would make my buy it.
At this point it is doubtful that I would convert, but if I did, the price must be in the 200.00 range. What format? Who cares.
Will buy either Only if DRM is removed
I love the few tv shows we get on HD that I can watch in 1080i. The determining factor for me will be a player that can make my existing DVDs look even better and play a true high def DVD as well. It's a drag to go from the quality of something like Planet Earth in HD to conventional DVDs in standard definition. The industry needs to do the right thing and produce discs that are Blu-Ray on one side and HD on the other. Then the war's over and we can buy whichever player we want without worrying about it going the way of Sony Beta. I suppose that makes the DVDs too pricey but I don't mind paying a bit (SMALL bit) more for better quality video and to end this BS so we can get on with it.
please tell me youre joking, because what youre suggesting is absurd... Do you really think this is a viable option, i mean have you even done any product research??
seems your one of these people that likes to pose hypothetical situations but realistically your notions hold no value in the real world what so ever, may be you should enter an Miss Universe competition so when your crowned you can bring world peace to the planet??
Im not really having a dig at you i just think you should have a good think before posting OK!!???
anyways peace out
the disc will cost more & has been put on hold until next year.

DVD is fine now. The price must drop well below $200 for me to go HiDEF/BluRay
I just sold my hddvd for 125. wasnt worth it. films just don't look as good as TV Hidef (such as espn) thats because tv is FILMED in hd. And the loading time, the errors, etc..drove me crazy.
All these movies are grainy( wait, for some reason the last samurai looked sharp!)you can only get so much out of them.
I swear the upscaled version of LD Ghostrider looked better than HD of the anthony hopkins' "last indian"
It is really sad. And now what throws me for a loop is that movies supposedly filmed in HD (Miami Vice) don't look good either so I have heard. That makes no sense.
Maybe I see things differently with my Projection TV. I dunno.
You guys should really wait until this format thing is all settled. And it is
Blu-ray is a BIG rip-off. For one, $30 for a movie!!! Give me a break. 10 bucks max, that's it. Tell me just what movie is worth $30 dollars. Second, color of the Blu-ray on screen is awful. It is all TOO MUCH of a good thing. Shadows are BLACK with no definition, it looks fuzzy and facial coloring is waaaay off. HD-DVD has it hands down for clarity, color, sharpness, depth, you can't beat it. All you Blu-ray people, you go buy your $1000 box, your $30 movies and have a fuzzy happy Life. Me, give me HD-DVD, some popcorn and I am in Heaven. Let Sony go back making transistor radios, something they are good at. This is the old BETA-VHS fight all over again and the West will beat the East once more.
the cheapest BD I have gotten was $16 & that was not a sales price & the most I have paid was $23.
If the tv that had a blu ray player was calibrated correctly you have great shadow detial, great colors & very sharp image.
Oh & I only paid $525 for my new samsung1200 from an authorized dealer
Actually, there are few movies released over the last 3 years that are worth viewing. They are either heavy on the so called "special effects",whether it be choppy car chases or outright violence, which I have no problem with, as long as they figure into a central plot and theme.
I just can't subject my wallet to shallow content and the continued second rated performance of some truly gifted actors.
The real directors,it seems are foreign, from Brasil or India.
No,to pretty much all new innovative hardware,as much as I credit the creative innovators.Until we have content that is not blase',I keep my wallet intact!
On Miami Vice they did some low light night scenes that looked amazingly bad (extremely grainy). I actually I thought the disc was defective. When the poor quality of the image stops you cold, it does not help your enjoyment with the film.
As to the film itself that’s another story, lets just say I'm glad I didn’t buy it.
I will purchase neither format any time in the foreseeable future. The only way that I would buy into the hype of the eye-candy format is if the price dropped below $100 like the standard DVD players now. At which time my choice would be the HD DVD, as I would never buy a Blu-ray since that is the Sony supported device, and I don’t like the way Sony treats it’s customer base. Sony used to be my choice, but no longer.
As has been said earlier by at least one other, my eyes aren’t real great, and the eye-candy visuals of the HD players are all but lost on me. Along with that, the dearth of worthwhile content is the least motivating prospect of ownership. The day that DVDs are no longer available in standard format is the day that I no longer purchase or rent DVDs.
I like all of the new tech, however, the initial pricing is rediculous. Especially, when you can upconvert a DVD with little visual difference than Hi-Def Video. I never cared too much for extra content on discs--just not that curious. However, I think that HD-DVD will win the format war based on pricing and availibility. Now below $200 and being offered with 5 movies, I'm already considering buying a HD-DVD player.
First, no one has even settled on the format they are using. Like DVD recorders, the whole game is still up in the air with a standard format. At the price they are asking for a Blue Ray unit, I would wait and see what's going to happen down the road. No one wants to be stuck with a $400+ dollar recorder that no one supports. I wouldn't buy one right now for any money.
