What more can I say? I put a cd into the CD-RW drive, do what I have to do, close the drive and remove the CD. I put a different CD in the same drive and when I open it, the previous CD items come up. I have to reboot to get the next CD to come up.

I agree. Try AUTOFIX from http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=6952
Next thought? Head to Device Manager, uninstall that drive and reboot.

I actually had this problem not long ago. I would put in one CD-RW containing a project and put in another and it would read as the same disc. I recommend that you use the device manager and try re-installing the driver that runs the device. ( I didn't do this when I had the problem; in my case the problem left after a while, weird, I know but it happened. Hope this helps, Good Luck
On windows explorer right-click over the cd or dvd drive unit and use always the open or close tray options. Sometimes got to do that twice or give it 2-3 seconds at right-clickin' to detect the new or empty disc. Also when burning several discs may be of use to close and re-open new windows explorer to see or detect changes on drivers or folders.
