Helio Ocean and Email...

by Kehau_101 - 7/15/07 8:47 AM

I've have new new Ocean for a few weeks now. Ok, really...Probably one of the best movesI've ever made [in regards to wireless] was to buy the new Ocean and sign up with Helio. I've been more that impressed with customer service and the device itself is freaking sweet...

However, just a question I was hoping other Ocean users could help me with...I've got my email all set up. I use gmail and have enabled POP's and everything. I can manually check my email buy using "send/res eave" however, I was wondering if there was a way to have the phone automatically "alert" me when I have a new email?

Anybody know this? Please repost if u do...

Ill give you a step by step way to do this:
1) Press Down from the home screen
2) Click Menu (Left soft key)
3) Go to setup email accounts
4) Select Gmail
5)The first thing you will see is set as default, hit the right soft key to check it.

That makes it your default email provider so the ocean will automatically check your email and alert you when you have new emails.

Hope this helps,
Mikey

That is helpful, however...

Thanks for the reply...

I went to set my Gmail as my default email and enabled POP's from my Gmail account on my computer. I get the email fine on my phone, but I only get new emails when I manually go the the email setting and go to "menu" and hit the "send/Receive" key. Only then will it go check and see if there is new mail in my Inbox.

What Im wondering is there anyway in the setting of the Ocean device to set it up where it will automatically check my inbox and "alert" me without me manually checking it every time. Is this possible with this phone? I had someone tell me that kind of technology is called "push" email...Can I set up the Ocean that way?

One more thing...

One more thing...I've gone threw the CD that came with the phone and read threw the owners manual...It didn't say much about setting up the emails...

Does any one have a Helio Ocean and have it set up to automatically check emails?

Hmmmm.....

thats odd it should have started checking the email by itself.....
I did that with mine and thats what it did, i would wake up in the morning and it would have all of the emails there.
Then again im sure gmail works differently then hotmail..
But if you get a new message it should check it and then it will check for other ones that are new as well.

how do you feel about your ocean now?

Kehau,

I read your post and was wondering if you still loved your ocean. I've been lusting after the Ocean for months now (just waiting for my AT&T contract to end so I can switch to Helio), but want to make sure it's really all it seems before I make the committment. I have heard great things about the device, but only from people who just got the phone. I want to know if the Ocean is still as great months after purchase. Do you still love the phone? (and did you ever get the email thing figured out?)

Thanks for your help!
