Throughout my life, I've either watched or played video games on probably 15 different TV sets. Among those 15 are:
- 27" Sylvania Superset, circa 1986. The display circuitry malfunctioned in about 1998.
- 27" RCA Console TV with stereo A/V in, stereo out, and ColorTrak Plus, circa 1996. Still works to this day, and is used mainly by my family.
- A dinky little 13" Funai Sylvania TV/VCR combo, circa 2000. This is my personal TV, used in conjunction with my own kind of "digital hub".
- A 2.5" Casio TV-2000 portable color LCD TV, circa 1985-86. I don't really use this little guy too much. It's one of those very select few of battery-friendly LCD TVs sold in the 80's. Doesn't eat up near as many AA's as my 1987 Edition Sony Watchman, even with the backlight module.
I prefer Mitsubishi and then a Sony. Both very good. Mitsubishi seems able to take a lot of abuse from being moved around, bumped by the kids,etc.. Very good product.

Samsung HDTVby far.Excellent customer support. I had a 6 Month old 42 in LCD go bad. After 2 attempts to fix it, They gave me a new 46 inch LCD!
I have mostly owned Panasonic and Magnavox in the past. Still have the old heavy 36" Pan. and after 9 yrs, still gets great picture. Tempted to by a new 42" LCD but havent yet. The 27" Mag. died after 18 years of use, it had by far the best "stock" sound of ANY TV I have ever owned. When the time comes I probably will buy a Pan. or Sam. or Mag. if I can find one. Question..... Why do the TV mfg. think it is necessary to put some sort of "distracting" shiney, glossy trim around the picture frame? Just leave it flat black, put their name in the corner and be done with it!!!
Why do MOST LCD tv's have gloss black trim around screen?
It is very reflective and distracting.
Does anyone know?
For long lasting, durability, I prefer Sony. However, I love the sharpness and picture I have with the Toshiba REGA 42 inch. Not plaesed with its failure after only 10 hours of use new. It took 39 days to get it repaired. It has been used now for about 8 months and works good.
I prefer Pioneer because their equipment performs. High-end premium models might be priced a bit higher than others for similar performance but the mid range equipment stands out as a good investment for the dollar. I have also found that Pioneer is never missing the right input/output plugs, usually having yesterday's technology with today,\'s for maximum compatibility, with other components.
When will we have a DVD recorder that will meet the standard beyond Feb. 2009. I have a 32" HDTV Samsung purchased just recently.
I prefer the Zenith brand Television. I owned one for above 17 years, with only one repair. The picture was superb and the set looked good as well. After the Zenith passed on in 2002; I was unable to locate one at Sears and settled for a Pannasonic. The sound significantly increases during some commercials and the picture darkens in sporadic fashion, needing adjusting, since it was new. Yet there has not been any other problems with it. I replaced the little Zenith this year with a Symphonic 13". It has no problems at all. The picture is clear as can be. The sound remains the same; whether a commercial airs or not. However, I must lower the volume on some cable stations, upon selecting them. All in all, a great purchase. Most of the small TVs are pretty decent, accompanied by small prices. They're, to me, disposalable. I hope Zenith is avaialable when it's time, once again, to buy a large TV....
PS The Kenmore Micro Convection oven I bought in August/1995 passed away in June/2007. Quickly replaced with a Kenmore Elite..What else?
I have never had trouble with Panasonic or Sony TV's. I have both in use now. The Sony is 17 years old and the 2 pana's are about 8-10 yrs old. I don't know about their TV but I have a Tosibia dvd recorder and hate the unit controls and the remote and the manual. They may make good products but just like JVC I hate the way they work. Sony is expensive I believe you pay for the name, but I have always been happy with their products and their TV's. I hope I can afford one when I but the next one!
I have an RCA in my living room that is 8 years old. It still works pretty great too, but I still would like to get a bigger tv. It's only 32". I think that's pretty sad compared to what all of my friends have! Now right now im in the process of trying to pick the right one for me and, i like many brands of tvs, but not all of them! I think that sony would be the best to get, but they are also the most expensive i've seen in the stores. I like sony, of course, sharp, philips, and rca the most, and almost practically all of the others too! There is however, one tv brand that i wouldn't ever want to have the responsibility of possessing. That is a Mitsubishi. Now I don't have anything against anybody out there that like them, they're just not for me. I've had some very bad history with those televisions!
We have 5 Sonys, one of the best a 20 year old 13" and it still has a beautiful picture - the best before our latest purchase a 40" Bravia HDTV. No repairs over the years.
