I Like JVC

by daven - 7/12/07 9:47 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

This brand is not in your list. It is part of the Matsushita Group, who also produce Panasonic. I like JVC because i used to work for them until I retired. They make top of the range good quality products, and don't 'follow the herd'. This is maybe why they do not have such a large following. In the UK where I live, you won't find them in the local Hyper or Supermarket. They sell quality and have a steady following of loyal customers who are prepared to pay more for top quality state-of-of-the-art products. I bought a widescreen TV from them 15 years ago when I first joined them, and it is still going strong. I have bought many products from them while working for them, and everything performed immaculately. I do buy other brands, but only for fairly non-discript electrical items. My next purchase from JVC will be one of their video projectors.

When it comes to TV's, what brand do you prefer?

by sandysone - 7/12/07 10:44 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

growing up my parents bought two tv's. And they where both Zenith. I have never seen a tv last longer. As an adult I bought Zenith's. Two in 18years. Now we are upgrading to HDTV. Zenith besides Panasonic is the last of American brand names. Sony goes in about 2-3 years. JVC has nice stereo equipment. What can I say. I WANT MY ZENITH TV!

sony sony sony

by vertdriver7 - 7/12/07 11:56 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Mitstubishis only last about 10 years then capacitors in tuner fail, magnavox, rca, JVC, is crap. Sony overall performed much longer than the other brands. Most of the screens are so much better than the other brands. The US military used Sonys for a while until Sony protested. LG,Samsung make good phones.
Sony had the best picture, reliability and length of service. I am tired of repairing mitsus, RCA for cold solder joints, JVC is basically a japanese RCA. Magnavox has the lousiest pictures. Phillips well they suck after a short time, they kind of reprogram themselves and they hum way too loud.
It's too late to list all the junk out there. But it is rare that Sony will make a bad set. I would rather go for the company that has the least problems and that would be Sony.

RCA ColorTrak 2000 - 26" (1981)

by bromines - 7/13/07 8:23 AM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

When purchased in late 1981 (I know -- it dates me!) the TV was considered to be a little expensive, but we took the chance. Boy has it paid off!! I've NOT seen any other brand, be it expensive or cheap, that has a picture any where near as perfect!! Flesh IS flesh, blue IS blue, green IS green -- you get the idea. I've been searching/investigating ALL brands/models for almost 10 yrs now, as I FEAR one day it will go, but cannot find ANYTHING close to its quality! And believe it or not, I've NOT had ANY problems until a fews yrs ago --- it cuts off, blinks several times, then on again. My daughter, who has worked with a TV repair business, says its the modulator(??) and when it goes completely, she'll try to locate a replacement, and I pray its available. While it doesn't have all the bells & whistles of modern TV/monitors, the picture is absolutely beautiful and, after all, isn't that mainly why we buy?
Thanks for all the imput on your preferred brands, the suggestions will help when I MUST buy another.

No preference

by Lemonhed - 7/13/07 9:45 AM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

As producers, I don't buy enough of any type of product to notice a difference between them. I prefer to choose my brand based on the ethics of the business involved. Sony, for example, who has documented evidence that their factory workers in some countries have been abused (physically attacked, denied the ability to use the restroom, etc), is off my list forever.

Samsung

by sheeshkebob - 7/13/07 10:42 AM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I bought a Samsung 5850 DLP (center pedistal with the screen on top; kinda Star Trek looking) and after about a year, the picture began to develope solarization. I contacted Samsung and the first 2 techs couldn't solve the problem. I contacted Samsung customer care and let them know what was going on. They asked me what I wanted to do. I said that I really liked the TV and that I was disappointed that it couldn't be fixed. 5 days later, a brand new 5850 was shipped to my house, white glove delivered, and the old set was taken away; all under warranty. With out a doubt, the best customer service that I have ever had. The replacement set has been flawless. Bottom Line: If your looking for customer service, I whole-heartedly recommend Samsung.

Toshiba Blackstripe CX 2010C 19" Monitor

by LEDrule123 - 7/13/07 7:40 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

My Toshiba was manufactured in Tennesee in September 1983. I purchased it in 1984 for the princely sum of $1,450.00 It has needed a red-gun "recharge" in 1988 (or was it 1992?)...and a verticle-hold part this year. It has served me VERY well for the past 23 years. My only wish is that Toshiba would build something of similar quality today... The T.V.boasts 5 watts per channel audio, external speaker output (the original speakers have disinigrated);three separate imputs/1-output for amplification in a theatre set-up. At 19 inches it is not suitable for a modern theatre application, but it's not broke and it will be a couple of years before broadcasting changes to digital. TOSHIBA RULES!!! (SOMETIMES)

Favorite TV

by themanstan - 7/13/07 8:32 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I had a Samsung 42" Plasma that failed in 15 months ( DNE failure )-I was allowed to pick any new one ( via my warranty ) to replace it because it was not repairable.
I chose Panasonic ( 42" ----60U) based on picture quality comparisons in the store and the MTBF ( Mean Time Between Failures) that the store guys told me about.
The picture is outstanding and although I didn't have to pay for it, the price was well below the other name brands.
I've had it about 6 months now and the picture quality has held up beautifully.
