I prefer Samsung

by rtashjian - 7/12/07 11:46 AM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I had a Sony and it died after 11 months. Turns out many Sony's died from that particular model. It was a 51" projection t.v. It took an act of congress for Sony to finally replace mine with the newer model. The replacement still works and has been a very good t.v., but dealing with Sony was horrible. You can get a lemon anywhere.

Now I have the Samsung (5054) 50" plasma and love it. Great picture and that's all I could ask for!

Pioneer

by kcfvegas - 7/12/07 11:48 AM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I'm buying the Pioneer 5080 because it just has the best picture that I've seen at this time. The other reason is that the quality of the TV is excellent, they don't cut corners. I have had Toshiba's, Sony's, and Hitachi's, and all were very good TVs, but I think Pioneer is the best right now when it comes to Plasma. And by doing some clever shopping, you can save $1000.00 on the set.

fav big screen

I recently picked up the top rated Samsung LNT-5265F and returned it in 5 days for a Pioneer Elite 1080p plasma. The Samsung was my first LCD besides my pc monitors, and I DID NOT like it. Something seemed off, it didn't seem like I was watching true motion, I can't describe it, I don't know why my eyes couldn't adjust to it, but none the less, I couldn't deal with it. So, . . . I held my breath and jumped in to the super high end, end. There is no going back, ever! Now, when someone tells you that LCD's are right up there with the best Plasma's, walk away, please. There is NO comparison. The Pioneer is scary clear. It looks like you looking through a window at times, completely natural, and with the color not overly saturated like some LCD's to compensate for black levels. If you want the best dam picture PERIOD, then it's the Pioneer Elite 1080p series, hands down. As far as the other tv's that were mentioned, honestly can't say, but I did live with these two sets and, if your willing to fork out an extra car payment every month, go for it. Just be careful with station logos in the corners and keep the contrast down for 80 to 100 hours.

Sony, but it depends

by Dan Filice - 7/12/07 12:11 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Lately I've bought Sony, but in the past I bought a Toshiba RPTV over a Sony because I just didn't like the Sony picture. So for me, I do my homework, compare and evaluate for the best TV at any given time. I generally stick with the better-known brands, such as Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sharp, Samsung who have a good reputation for making good TVs.

Sony is my Favorite Next is between Samsung and Panasonic

by gadgetdad - 7/12/07 1:13 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

First off I want to say I never purchase anything with batteries or plugs in with out CNET's blessings. (have you seen Bryan Cooleys video, Rolls Royce Review?) I want one!! Anyway As I own all three plus two Viewsonics all HDTV's. "I'm in to it!" My OTA picture is the best anywhere. After that my SAT HD is next.
The Viewsonics were the first and have preformed flawlessly for over five years. The Sony LCD I own had issues two times and Sony made the repair/exchange painless. The image quality on the Sony is simply the best. Now the Panasonic Plasma is perfectly great and this TV gets the most use of all. There is just something about Plasma that is a treat to the eye that LCD fails to provide. Keep your eyes pealed for the new Laser sets coming soon. I want one of those too.

What's in a Brand name?

by brianerwin - 7/12/07 1:39 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

As you can imagine, to some people, brand names DO play a large part in consumer purchases. But when it comes down to a necessity, I believe that price holds a large second place.

I don't know and cannot speak for others but I can surely tell you that when I go looking for electronics I usually look into what the
Name brand has to offer and then I look downline for what makes sense.
For instance I like Sony, Phillips and RCA when I seek a new television, but when looking I found that Samsung had a better picture quality (in my opinion only) and mostly the same features.
The controls were the same and had a simple remote, which didn't really matter since I use a universal remote anyway, I needed to find the code for the Television but it was otherwise easy to program that remote.
The key to my buying the samsung was honestly the price.
It just happened to be on sale when I got there and it came with an extended warranty. The only thing that was missing was the picture in picture and that is not a neccesity to me.

In today's economy sometimes price makes more sense than brand names.

I work in a factory and have a family to take care of, which includes
schooling, shoes, clothes and meds when the kids get sick. So managing what goes out of the pocketbook is a major priority.

Am I cheap??? I would have to say YES!!!!!

But the reasons behind it are substantial. I would rather have a tight family than a HUGE TV that we have to fight over the channels every night.

Now on the other hand.... If I were a single guy without these parental responsibilities, My life would be different.

I would have the best Big screen TV and surround sound system.
I would also have many other luxuries that a "GUY" NEEDS!!!!

But for now I would hope that many would understand where I come from.
We buy what is affordable to us. There are somethings that we need in a TV and usually we find it, but we keep the cost down.
Brand names over price ???? I think price wins in my specific situation.

I don't have a favorite

by viralbyte - 7/12/07 2:35 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I don't have a favorite. TVs for me are a rare purchase. I tend to buy one then wait years before getting another. I currently have a Samsung based partly on Cnet and other electronic sites and magazines reviews. I look for good reviews then I go into the store and check out the picture quality.

JVC for me

by ludedude25 - 7/12/07 3:05 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've started out with a JVC home stereo, vcr, tv, dvd player, cd changer, New LCD tv, home theater, home dvd burner, and even moved to there car stereo's because I like the front USB port for mp3 playback.

I've only had one die from a electrical problem in my house which I had repaired. I gave it to my dad and it still works fine.

none

by mattkenseth17 - 7/12/07 3:54 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have no brand loyalties. I go by independent reviews, such as here on cNet and other good magazines.

It was Sony

by GolferJL - 7/12/07 4:04 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

For years I only bought Sony. For the most part they were dependable and had an outstanding picture. Saying that, however, I had to replace an old 32" Zenith that I inherited when I bought my house. I decided to get a 42" plasma. Panasonic was and probably the best value for plasma's. Sony might be good, but it's price was way to high. The Panasonic's picture is beautiful and the setup was simple.
One other Panasonic item. Their phones are the outstanding, in particular their cordless models.

It's been so long since I bought one

by Steven Haninger - 7/12/07 5:19 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

that I can't remember the year we got our Sony. The picture is still decent. I'd buy another Sony TV but don't care for some of the other products they make.

Pleasant surprise

by Chrissm - 7/12/07 5:50 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have been very brand loyal with Toshiba for TVs. I now own a Vizio HD LCD and am very impressed with the quality and certainly the price. Of course, I don't know about long term issues, as the brand is pretty new, but the savings will be worth the risk.

pioneer elite vsx92txh receiver

by gusirani - 6/12/08 7:04 AM In reply to: Pioneer Elite by mingstersol

I have this receiver since feb 08, every week or two weeks it completely freezes up, I have to unplug the power and then it reboots, Pioneer does not have tech support, they refer you to the local dealer, who tells me that since it is random he cannot diagnose the problem.
