Can you use the wireless headset to listen to music/audiobooks, etc on the iPhone?
I don't need stereo, or even very good quality since I listen exclusively to audiobooks and podcasts. Being able to listen to them using wireless only in one ear would be perfect for me.
Since the iPhone lacks A2DP for wireless stereo streaming, you can't use those headphones without an adapter. However, Bluetooth headphones made for the iPod (which come with the adapter) may work.
http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones-headsets/logitech-freepulse-wireless-headphones/4505-6468_7-32110400.html?tag=lst (this one will probably need a headphone extender for the recessed iPhone jack).
As for mono audio, the iPhone does offer standard BT, so those headsets should work.
Is it true that there is software or settings that allow me to import music from a friends iTunes library onto my iPod without overwriting the existing music? Is it then possible to add that music to my own iTunes library? I know they may be considered hacks but I'm comfortable with that.
I've been scouring the site for these--I know they're here!--but I can't seem to find them. If you would like to repost this in the forum, I will research it more: http://forums.cnet.com/5204-7595_102-0.html?forumID=71&start=0&tag=dir
Thanks for the advice, Jasmine. I was wondering if you had any opinion on Audio Technica headphones, especially the
Audio Technica ATHM40FS.
I haven't used those personally, but based on user reviews I've seen, they seem to be well-liked (they have 5 stars on Amazon).
I go to cNet every day to check the latest tech news and I'm always referencing cNet editor reviews as well as the user reviews. I wish that you could have more up to date reviews for really hot tech areas like HD TV, HD camcorders, HD and BD disc players etc. I know it must be hard to keep up with it all but that's the nature of your business as technology changes so fast. I hate when the most current Editor's review about certain tech equipment is 6 months to a year old. Is cNet doing anything to come out with more timely reviews?
Thanks so much for reading CNET. In all our coverage, we strive for the most timely reviews we can provide. We've put together a user promise, which you can read here: http://www.cnet.com/4520-13403_1-6722494-3.html If you can't find a review that you're looking for of an existing product, please send us feedback here: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-8_7-105831-1.html
I'm torn between the zen vision w, archos 605 wifi, cowon a2, and the new OS X iPod. I know some of them aren't out yet and that they all do certain things better than each other (some lack features that the others have) but overall which one would you suggest?
How do you like to get your video?
If you want to purchase from a store: iPod (a new widescreen version, hopefully) or the Archos (with CinemaNow...no TV though)
If you want to record directly: Cowon A2 (or wait for the A3) or Archos (with an extra adapter that you have to pay for)
If you already have a big library: Zen Vision:W
Hi Jasmine,
I always seem to have problems with inear head phones one of them always seem to pop out and this bugs me a lot. Over the head headphones hurt because i wear glasses.
Any suggestions on what type headphones can I get?
Thanks
Ear-clip headphones may or may not work with glasses, depending how they fit, but they are worth a try. An example: http://reviews.cnet.com/Audio_Technica_ATH_EW9/4505-6468_7-31649807.html?tag=lst
Also, check out behind-the-neck styles: http://reviews.cnet.com/4566-7877_7-0.html?filter=500876_5419364_&tag=dir
Or, there's Ultimate Ears earbuds, which have a plastic piece that you loop over your ear for a secure fit: http://reviews.cnet.com/4566-7877_7-0.html?filter=1000036_11085448_&tag=dir
Hi Jasmine,
With the introduction of multi-touch and next interface on the iPhone, it seems that Apple is about to take the user interface experience to a whole new level. It is very tempting to think that Apple is going to create the next generation iPod with similar interface, design and control (i.e. a stripped-down version of iPhone but with larger capacity).
What is your take on that? Are there any features that you would like to see in the next gen iPod?
Thanks,
Finsen
The iPhone is really a spectacular iPod, so it'd be great to see Apple stick to that design, but take out the cellular functions, thereby eliminating the need to pay for a pricey service plan.
Still, some wireless capability would be a plus, so you could:
*listen to Internet radio
*wireless purchase and transfer songs
if you have gigantic ears would the Bose QuietComfort 2 not be comfy since they try to wrap totally around the ear?
I actually have the opposite problem--my ears are small, so many earbuds are uncomfortable.
I think the QuietComfort cups are very comfortable overall, but it's always good to try something out first. Any full-size headphones may cause discomfort for larger ears. If you can, try to find a music store that has them on display. Or buy them from someplace with a great return policy (BestBuy works for me).
Are there any cheaper alternatives to Bose headphones?
Try one of the cheaper ones here: http://reviews.cnet.com/4323-6531_7-6509087.html?tag=txt
how does Bose In-ear head phones compare to QC2
We were not so much fans of the in-ear model: http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones-headsets/bose-triport-in-ear/4505-6468_7-32150146.html?tag=prod.txt.2
Though Bose improved the design slightly since the review, I'm still sketchy on the audio quality.

I own an iPod Video, and I was wondering if there was any way to make the nike kit work with the vedio, because it says it only works with nano?
We were unable to finagle that one when we tried it here in the office. Maybe someone in the forums has a hack, though: http://reviews.cnet.com/5204-7595_7-0.html?forumID=71&start=0&tag=dir
I use both MAC and PC. Thank you for your comments, you are awesome Jasmine. In your professional opinion should I continue with the ipod line since I have a collection of itunes purchased music.
If you have a large iTunes collection, another iPod is definitely the way to go. Otherwise, there will be a lot of burning and re-ripping to do.
Other MP3 players that work with both Mac & iTunes include the SanDisk Sansa line and Cowon's iAudio MP3 players. However, they won't play protected iTunes music.
i have the motorola s9 wireless headphones. i would like to use them with my ipod. So is there a adapter i can get so i can use my s9's with my ipod
Jabra only guarantees that the A125s works with their own headphone models, but I got it to work with a Motorola Wireless DJ set. Just in case, buy from BestBuy if you can--they have a great return policy.

Granted that only a minority of MP3 users listen to classical music, the question still remains: why is ID3 tagging so awful when it comes to this type of music? Examples: (1) some pieces are titled by the artist, some by composer, some by album title. Result: chaos. (2) a 4-movement symphony is split into 3 movements together and the fourth shoved somewhere else in the album list. Why?? And to make things worse, even if manual corrections are made (a very time-consuming exercise) ID3 rewrites its nonsense over these corrections! Any suggestions?
Both to play the music and to edit ID3 tags?
If it's WMP, go into the options menu, and make sure the check box for automatically retrieving song data from the Internet is unmarked.
I've heard of this problem before--you're not alone!
i dont have an aux jack and i dont have a cassette player

Is there a noticeable difference between the video quality of the Clix (gen 1) vs. the Clix (gen 2)?
How does the video quality of the zen v plus compare to the Clix?
Video quality between the first- and second-gen Clix players is about the same.
But the Clix has better video quality than the Zen V Plus--and a bigger screen.
Hi, Jasmine.
I have been looking for circum-aural headphones that I can use with my ipod. I don't need anything with noise cancellation, but I found that most headphones I like are studio headphones with cords that are too long for convenient use with my ipod. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for something that would be under $100 that would fit my needs; I'm looking for something like the Grado sr60s in terms of sound quality, but they don't look comfortable enough. Thanks!
Most circum-aural headphones have really long cables--and the coiled kind, that you can't use a wrap with. A more portable options is the JVC HA-NC100: http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones-headsets/jvc-ha-nc100-noise/4505-6468_7-30595866.html?tag=lst (they work without the noise canceling turned on)
what are your opinions on the sony MDR-EX90LP earphones?
I actually reviewed those myself. Here's the gist:
The good: The Sony MDR-EX90LP provides excellent clarity and detail and decent bass response; the understated black-and-silver design meshes well with most gadgets.
The bad: The silicone ear fittings included with the Sony MDR-EX90LP don't always create a seal with the ear; no cable extender for at-home listening.
The bottom line: The Sony MDR-EX90LP earbuds sound as good as their $100 price tag suggests, but there's nothing particularly exciting about them. They're just good headphones with an understated design.

are they really worth the price? I want to get the best active noise canceling headphones under $350.
The Bose QuietComfort 'phones are very comfortable and they sound great. If you're OK with investing a couple to a few hundred in some nice full-size headphones, they fit the bill.
I had some bluetooth-enabled, wireless headphones that worked with my iPod but I was disappointed in the quality. I want to purchase another pair. Can you recommend any?
Awesome: http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones-headsets/logitech-freepulse-wireless-headphones/4505-6468_7-32110400.html?tag=lst

I have a k1 Motorola KRZR. I am able to transfer songs from i tunes to my phone by copying and pasting into the removable e drive. The problem occurs when I tunes transfers music to my phone. The name of the song appears on my phone by the artist and genre and album are all unknown. There is no way to edit this on my phone or computer, to my knowledge. I have contacted both apple and Motorola about this problem. They do not understand how to fix it. I realized that my phone works perfectly with music I got from a friend because i tunes has not encoded it. Windows media player has a software that automatically syncs with my phone and puts the songs I obtained from my friends on my phone with all the id tags: artist album ect. But i can't get my i tunes songs on windows media player. It doesn't recognize the format itunes has encoded it with. What should i do to get songs on my phone displaying the artist and album?

...this will need quite a bit of research. If you'd like to post in our MP3 player forums, I will look into it in more detail and get back to you: http://forums.cnet.com/5204-7595_102-0.html?forumID=71&start=0&tag=dir
Jasmine,
does the zen v plus show up on the itunes application. I'm planning to update my ipod mini what would recommend?
thank you
I'm pretty sure the Zen V Plus will not work in iTunes, and I'm not sure of any plug-ins that accomplish this.
As for suggestions, do you use a Mac or a PC? And do you have a lot of iTunes purchased music?
Thanks for the suggestions, are you recommending E310 if you don't mind paying a little extra?
Those are definitely the pricier option, but they also offer the best audio response overall.
Still, all of the ones I suggested sound good.
I have been thinking in buys the psp to use not only as a video game but also as a mp3 but is the mp3 function really good? does replace a original mp3 player?
...but I've used the PSP for video and it's awesome for that.
Editor David Carnoy talks more about the audio functionality in his review: http://reviews.cnet.com/consoles/sony-psp/4505-10109_7-30895581.html?tag=prod.txt.1
Personally, for MP3 playback only, I like smaller devices:

how do the panasonic HTX7's compare to the grado sr-60's and DT770 pros?
I haven't used a lot of non-portable headphones, but my colleague Donald Bell tells me the Grado's you mention aren't very durable, so I would go with one of the others. I'll try to provide some more info as I come across it.
Hi,
I like to listen to my music loud, but the problem I have is that everyone around me is also listening to my music.
Can you recommend some decent in ear headphones that I can crank up and not disturb people around me at the same time.
Thanks!
SB
All the options on this page should work for you: http://reviews.cnet.com/4323-6531_7-6509085.html?tag=txt
What is the best silicone Case for the Video iPod 30gb? Ive looked at the iSKin evo3 which seemed to be good. Is silicone the best choice? I want sumthing that I can take walking/running with and I want it to protect the screen.
Silicone cases are fine for regular protection, though they won't protect the iPod from long drops.
If you are looking for something for workouts, I'd go with neoprene, since it helps protect against sweat and sometimes comes with an armband. Check out: http://reviews.cnet.com/carrying-cases/xtrememac-sportwrap-ipod-armband/4505-6510_7-31325762.html?tag=txt

Hey everyone, I'm seeing the questions but am having some technical problems with submitting replies. Please bear with me while we get this issue solved.
I've been looking at several in-ear noise cancelling earbuds, Shure E210, Vibe by vmoda etc. Any guidance of what to choose if you are looking for a good pair of in-ear.
The buds with the Nano are good but the lows and bass are lacking.
Brian
If you are looking for good bass response along with passive noise isolation, try:
Shure SE310: http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones-headsets/shure-se310-sound-isolating/4505-6468_7-32327762.html?tag=prod.txt.1
V-moda Bass Freq: http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones-headsets/v-moda-bass-freq/4505-6468_7-32098284.html?tag=prod.txt.1
V-moda Vibe: http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones-headsets/v-moda-vibe-flashback/4505-6468_7-32165976.html?tag=prod.txt.5
Those are all great choices and cover a range of price options.
