I recently purchased a HDTV from Samsung but it failed in the first few days. I replaced it under the store's guarantee with a Sony which I really like - good setup, controls, picture, sound. I find that I keep going back to Sony products, even though they are more expensive.

SONY being one of them. The other reason is because Samsung makes EVERY kind of electronics you can find on the planet we call earth. Not to mention that they are the worlds largest manufacturer of semi conductors. So maybe if we're going to tote percentages of market share, we should relate it to the topic at hand. TV's
Philips / Magnavox

Although they have the lowest poll numbers I prefer the Magnavox TVs over many others. I currently own three Magnavox TVs, two of them are over 18 years old and still play well. The real plus side is that I can pick up any of the remotes and it's the same as the other two remotes and each will work with any of the TVs. There's a lot to be said for consistant remote button locations that has not been addressed. Some of the newer remotes with about a zillion buttons were never designed to be used in bed with the lights out; I can live without more difficulty in my life.
Sharp and Olevia

If you have no price limits, I think the Sharp Aquos has the best possible picture. When I watch it, I feel like I'm somewhere else. But for those times where you may need a lower price, I think Olevia really fills the bill. Dollar for dollar, Olevia beats out the whole bunch!!

I like Sharp because I feel like they offer a gre?at picture in their Aquos line. Recently I was looking to purchase an HDTV to use with my Xbox 360 and Direc Tv service. I went to Sears (never again) and bought a Samsung line TV. I took it out of the box and pugged it in and turned it on. I was really diappointed with the picture that I got on the phone with Samsung and talked to them. The main resion that I purchased this tv was because it had the NFL tv of the year and I thought that it would have a great picture like it looked like in the store. It didn't even with my xbox in the HD quility. I made sure that the xbox's swich was on HD and the picture was terrible. Then I when I went back to sears to return it and they tried to charge me a restocking fee for which samsung told me was a defective product. I had to call the credit card company and dispute it because Sears wasn't going to take the carge off. Then finally I went to Best Buy and purchased a Sharp Aquos HDTV and the picture was great. I had many sharp products that lasted forever including my microwave which is on 15 years and still going for a $100 appliance. Good job Sharp!!!!
Panasonic Still the Best of All

Great reliability,excellent customer support,very up to date products and fair prices. I have had 5 Panasonic tube type TVs over the years,now a Commercial 37"PHD Plasma monitor and a 32LX70 LCD TV, a Commercial Super VHS Camera for Television Production, A microwave/convection oven with a stainless steel interior (about 15 yrs old and still is excellent, 2 VCR recorders,a fax machine and many cordless phones up to 5.8Gh(4 line ,2 line and 1 line,2 paper printing adding machine, 2 electric pencil sharpeners and even a cordless drill. Never had a problem with any of them at my home or my business..

However, I can afford SONY. I sold TVs for many years, and IMO Sony and Panny are the best price to performance. Just my $.02

I have a Samsung 40" LCD flat panel display that works great. Samsung along with Sharp were early investors in active matrix amorphous silicon driver technology and the performance of their TVs is reflective of their investment.For the money and performance theirs are the best.
Toshiba for over 25 years

When I was a young-er lad I bought my mother a grand christmas present. It was a 13" Toshiba color TV. It was all I could afford and at the time it was a good amount of cash for an 18 year old working in fast food. That same Television, although antique by today's standards (rotary channel tuning and only an antenna input), is now in my daughter's room and still has a pretty good picture 26 years later. I upgraded Mom five years later to a whopping 20" and she still uses that Televsion in her basement. Only Sony has lured me away briefly but the quality per $$$ was so close that I've returned to Toshiba. I do have to shop around for the features I want but there has always been a model for my needs. Unfortunately for Toshiba they last so long, and I usually buy more than I need at the time so the set will serve me longer, I have only purchased 4 in 26 years and 2 of those were for Mom. That says the most to me.
What I like about Sony.

I must confess I used to think of buying nothing but Sony because back in the 80's and even 90's they were the best built. I also like the way they came as close as possible to actual skin tone than any other TV. But I am now finding with LCD and Plasma TV's there appears to be not much difference. I will miss the old CRT tube because they are better than LCD or Plasma. I have had more than one TV salesman admit that the CRT tube is in fact better than LCD or Plasma.

I think overall Samsung has a brighter and clearer LCD TV screen, but for now I still use a 32" Panasonic which I purchased around 2000 that has been flawless, and it runs a lot! I have three 3yr old Sony desktops and they are OK, the best thing being they have been very reliable. I had a Sony laptop that was outstanding until one of the memory card holders went wacko, but the screen is still one of the best I have ever seen. I have a Samsung cell phone and laser printer. This is my second cell by them and it has been extremely dependable (I've used it for almost three years now). I have two Samsung LDC monitors--one 17" and the other 19" which although a couple of years old are still superb. I had a Panasonic fax machine which I gave away because I thought it was broken, where I simply did not snap it back together correctly, and it was fabulous (I now have a Brother that is OK). My DVD changer, VHS, and stereo components that are Sony as well as an older camcorder that I don't use. Even though the flap where the VHS goes in broke off a week ago or so, I think Sony stuff in this venue is really good. When I go looking at digicams I look at Sony. If I were to purchase a digital SLR it would be a Nikon because I like the way their lenses resolve light. But right now I am kind of broke which means I have kept my things longer than usual and so I can attest to their reliability and functionality. I am very satisfied with these things, and I think it is because I believe you simply can't stay with one brand and be happy in all things.

Never seen much reason to get excited by brand names on TV's, you just look for the features you want within your price range. Since I've never had a TV that didn't last at least 10 years, no matter what brand, I don't see any reason for shelling out extra money just for a brand name.
Since when is Sharpe a brand name -- last time I bought a Sharpe TV it was the store brand of a discount chain that has since gone out of business.
It's not about quality, it's all about marketing, and I;ve never been quiet well off enough to worry about image and marketing.

I have always owned a Sony TV ... for over 40 years. However, with move away from tubes that is definitely going to change because I do not believe Sony produces the best flat screen televisions. Not even close! In fact, I have been pretty disappointed in Sony's flat screens. So, my Sony KV36XBR400 will be my last Sony TV!
Manufacturers I am considering for my next purchase ... Runco, Fujitsu and Pioneer. And it will be a plasma. I hate rear projection TV's with a passion and LCD's just don't do it for me.
