I myself find it hard to locate any electronic made in America by Americans. We USED to have many brands that would fit that desire, 'Admiral', 'Zenith', 'GE' and so on. But we now ship our money and JOBS overseas since we can save a dollar or two by buying a import. Ummm... just like all the true Americans driving thier 'riceburners'. The big phrase in the 70's during the FIRST (I wonder how many we can have) gas shortage was: 'Hungry? Unemployed? EAT you IMPORTED CAR! So in response, Any Brand I Can Find Made In AMERICA By AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmm! Have you ever taken an American automobile apart lately? Parts come from Canada, Mexico the Far East. And why does nearly every American car Ad constantly compare themselves to the Honda's and Toyota's of the world. Why, because for years the Big three offerings were terrible. Cheap looking, recalls by the minute, faulty construction, poorly designed structurely.Plus not being prepared for market changes. In a nut shell the Big 3 self-destructed. I find it laughable an"American" car company is bringing in a car made in China.
Now about American made electronics. You must be a comedy writer or did I see you on Comedy Central? Any electronics or computers that are "Made in America" are just assembly points for the parts which come from the Far East.
Here are the cold hard facts. We live in a world economy today. Russia thought they could be self-suffcient and collapsed under the weight of their misguided political and economic decisions. They needed products and services from other countries because their thinking was a flawed political and economic system.
One other thing, with no radio to listen to and no TV to watch because thay are all made in the Far East, I'll bet you will do a lot of reading. Just make sure before you pick up that next book the publisher is not owned by a British company.
Well said, but you will get some major liberals out there who will tout a 'global economy' and that we should 'all try to get along' and support the world AND ALL THAT CRAP! I don't support the world. I SUPPORT AMERICA! when I can, whenever I can! Yes, the parts are probably shipped from somewhere else (is that our fault? YES!) So, we are stuck trying to find something made in America, yet we all complain and still go for the cheapest brand. It's a NO-WIN SITUATION. The unions in the country have us over a barrel. I do drive a Chevy Malibu, trying to stay within our borders! It's really hard to do.
TO THOSE PERSONS WHO HAVE TOUTED A GLOBAL ECONOMY (not the writer I am responding to):
This global economy may be good for someone else, but I really hate it. America is losing its identity, it's strength, and will soon be called......drum roll please............."The United States of the World"....please.....gag me with a spoon with all the melodramatic cuddly soapy words to meld the world altogether with foreigners. Next thing you'll want is for us to feel sorry for Bin Laden. What a waste of time.
I havve owned sharp tv's for over 30 years - they seem to last the longest and keep color - my brother has the
Aquos for over 2 yrs and has no complaints - his son bought a 42 sharp aquos last year and has no complaints
which is where i will be shopping
I owned a Sony Triniton that was over 20 years old and it was outstanding, but when I wanted to replace it with a HDTV and I looked at a Sony and several other brands. As expected the Sony had great picture, but the price of 42 inch was more than twice some unknown brands. Twice! The picture quality of one lesser know brand Oleiva was not as great as Sony, but at half the price I could only think about what I would do with the money I saved instead of buying the Sony. I would not consider buying a unknown brand in the past, but with all the reviews and comments on the internet the ability to research the manufacturer I decided to give it a try. I made a great buy. Home audio and video equipment are commodities. Higher end stuff maybe better and worth it, but in general I believe unless there is something truly innovative, not just a better picture, about the equipment or brand they must compete on price. In the absence of true innovation I select based on price and reputation.
My oldest TV in the house is a Sony. At 35 years old, it still works.
I have a Westinghouse ltv32w3. I like it. There are some very minor and forgivable issues. The black-level falls just shy of major brands but some shading pixelization occurs when there is a great mismatch in picture quality. Its resolution is higher than 720p but it's not true 1080.
But there are many reasons I chose Westinghouse over other brands. Since it's a lesser known brand, it's cheaper. Westinghouse makes nuclear reactors for the Navy and for civilian power plants. I think if a company can produce something as complicated as a reactor, the TV shouldn't be a big deal. I still envy those who can afford a 50" 1080p screen, but I'm happy with my TV that has a good 3yr warranty with a price tag of <$1000
I was very pleased to own my 65" widescreen HD TV for the past 3 years. Comparing with other TVs at the time. This one had the best value. Very easy to use and no issues whatsoever just like My SUV Mitsubishi Montero Sport, 7 years in this case.
Toshibas. We have 2 of them - one of which was a 6 month old dept store floor demo and it just keeps rollin' along and it is at least 8 years old, probably more. The other, 4 years old, is a replacement for 2 back to back SONYs, each of which died within a week - like everything else but the camcorder that has a SONY label on it that I have ever owned. Ever!!!
I am surprised that you did not place Magnavox on the list. We've had 1 of these TVs for over 25 years and it still works perfectly!
We also have a 52" non-HD Magnavox that has worked since 1995 and still going strong. I believe these two TVs were made right here in the USA, which is what I prefer! Although I am open-minded, I try to buy products made here, when I buy, to keep my money right here. I think we should all do that! Support our own people! However, I know that is not always possible and quality does count, right? That's not to say that I don't have Sony or any other foreign product in my home - I do! I have a Sony digital camera from 10 years ago, but recently bought the Canon Digital Rebel XT, WHICH MAKES ME WANT TO STOMP UP AND DOWN AND YELL HURRAY - WHAT A GREAT CAMERA!
I prefer American-made and it's the first thing on my mind when I go out to purchase. My Magavox TVs have never failed except to be replaced by a newer model ;-(
Sony was good for CRT but is lagging behind in newer technology. Samsung seems to be ahead of everyone and more reasonably priced. I own LNT4665 TV and 1080 DVD player and I am extremely pleased with them.
I buy what fits my needs. I did the brand thing for a long time but I kept reading the "made in label" and decided the brand label was just a blind for a product made by someone else and then a brand label stuck on it just to jack the price. Just to site an example, brand name dog food was in the news due to liver damage to dogs. The problem showed that many brands turned out to be from the same place. Just buy what you need from a vendor who will let you return it for a full refund should a problem arise.
This still keeps your local vendor employed and gives you a good service contact when you need help. This vendor then just tries to sell you the stuff you need since he knows what you like. So he doesn't build it himself; that is the way of the world isn't it?
Although pricey, Sony always seems to be half a step ahead of the competition in terms of technology. And since technology is moving so quickly, I like to be at the leading edge so my TV isn't outdated by the time I bring it home.
Well now. After more than 100 posts on this subject there are preferences and very favorable and some passionate opinions on every major, and some minor, brands.
I guess you could throw a dart at a list of tv,s blind folded and you won't go far wrong. That speaks to the marked increase in quality in electronicd universally.
Some people buy what they think is the best picture, no matter the cost, some the best price, trading off picture, etc.
Hasn't it been that way forever about all products- at least in the free world.
We should all be happy that we have so much to choose from!!!!!!!
