My principal TV is a Mitsubishi, in solid wood case, which I purchased circa 1980. It has never been to the repair shop.

Having said that, I haven't bought one for 6 or 7 years but am getting ready to buy a DLP model. I'll consider any/all brands offering that format.

I have tried various other brands, some well known, some not but I always come back to JVC. We had a Monitor by JVC from 1982, when it was over $600, had a remote and had all these holes we didn't have any use for. We passed it on to a friend who needed a TV last year. Still running, still able to connect to things like DVD Players, and still with a good picture on a 25 inch set.
We now have an JVC LCD 42" and have nothing but praise for it. Easy to set up, easy to use, good picture, the whole nine yards. Not the cheapest in the shop but it has connectivity the under $1,000 models don't so we plan to be using it quite a few years down the line.
We also have a 27" tube JVC, giving good picture. The remotes make sense and can be handled by the most inept. I know. A good company with solid products and a good track record, with us at least.

I've mainly had Philips in the past and been satisfied, but my most recent 32" widescreen was a nightmare from go to whoa. Bad convergence, colour saturation artifacts due to my poorly magnetically shielded speaker system, prone to interference, and generally poor performance on analogue transmission. The final straw came when I changed glasses and no longer had polarised lenses, hence I could finally see the 50Hz flicker which had deterred most other potential customers from buying this cheap model.
Isurveyed every other brand and system for months. I really wanted to like LCD, but plasma was simply so much better on DVD playback. Eventually I bought an EDTV 42" Panasonic plasma. Now we have free digital transmission in New Zealand, and I probably would have gone LCD if buying now, and probably Sony. However, when I put in a DVD, I don't feel I've made any mistake

Sony stuff has always done me good no matter what it has been so I like to stick with them

My husbands first computer, was a Sony. One rainy night, there was a direct hit (lightning) to a telephone pole next to his house. Charge went down the wire into the house. Blew IN a large picture window, and the prongs on the plug to his NEW Sony vaporized. He had alot of electronics in the room, and some incredible thing's happened with all that power surge, I digress. He replaced the plug, t.v. worked just fine. Went on for years and we gave it to someone who didn't have a t.v. and they were thrilled. We have a big screen Sony now, (46", maybe larger, don't recall). had it for many years now. Works great..not once has it given us a problem. Reliability is my deciding factor. My husband did purchase a very nice Panasonic (great price) with dvd and vhs for our back office at work. VHS (less than one yr. later) eating video tapes. Yikes. We also have a SONY 5" color t.v. purchased many years ago when that size was about $595. Had purchased two and gave one away as a gift. Both STILL work great. Why switch with this kind of track record?

Radios - Sony or Bose
Stereo - I have a Namagatchi now but it was a tough decision between that and the Bose 1-2-3 system. I like things simple, real simple.
Computers - always used Dell.

Samsung has provided me good, durable service at a reasonable price. The controls are relatively simple and accomplish all necessary functions with ease and 'NO INSTRUCTION MANUAL REQUIRED'for changes or correction.
Their top-of-the-line products are a best value & very dependable.
In my eyes Sharp is it.

In the olden days, LOL, I bought Zenith and only Zenith TVs.
We had a 52" Phillips Plasma (I'm not sold on plasma). We have Sony CRT and a Bravia LCD HDTV, Sony DVD Players, a Vaio, Sony camera and camcorder, audio equipment and accessories. I love the picture on Sony and their products are great. If the TV wasn't a gift I would buy a Sharp LDC. I had 2 Sharp TV's before the Sony TV's and in my eyes the quality of the picture and colors are the best.

I perfer Sanyo brands, who also make Panasonic. They are one of the least repaired tv brands on the market and at a reasonable price.

Panasonic is the American branch of Matsushita Electronics. Sanyo does not make Matsushita.
Sanyo was started by the brother-in-law of the founder of Matsushita. In fact, the founder of Sanyo was once an employee of Matsushita, and the two companies share a very good relationship. But they are not one in the same.
Rumors like this are the same thing as "Samsung makes Sony's LCD's." which no, they don't. They have a joint venture and share the same plant and raw materials, but the manufacturing process and the production of the screens and electronics are TOTALLY different.
Samsung in LCD and Pioneer in Plasmas

The picture quality is up there with Sony's at a cheaper price. I also prefer the look of the Samsung tv's over its competitors mainly due to the sleek glossy look which some dont like.But I do like the XBR style as well from Sony.
As for Plasmas its an easy choice. Pioneer! I really dont understand why they are low on these polls. Yes I do feel that Panasonic has awesome plasmas but in my book and every employee in our department the Pioneer soars in picture quality and look, with panasonic in second.All of our flat screens are displayed side by side on the wall in our store and Pioneers easily stick out in quality over our other tv's. Even customers coninually point it out. The new elite tv's have such an amazing contrast and in my opinion Pioneer excels above the competition!!
