Samsung

by jbart610 - 7/11/07 6:32 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have bought many TVs from most of the major brands. I like my current set, a Samsung DLP. I am very picky and while the Sony sets are a little nicer cabinet, I can't justify the 2x-3x price difference just for a nicer cabinet. I've also had good luck with Panasonic, and think for Plasma they are good bang for the buck.

It all depends

by Alain Martel1 - 7/11/07 6:35 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I realy don't have any preferance.
It all depends on what is available, the price, the feature that I REALY want and those that I don't want.
I've had a bad experiance with LG.
I have a Sanyo TV and an Hitachi monitor. I had an RCA and a Candle TV in the past that I liked.

For TV's, Samsung

by djneuhaus - 7/11/07 6:38 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I used to live by Sony until about 3 years ago. I had a couple of Sony receivers fail on me, among other things, and that was it. I have a Samsung rear projection DLP because of the ratings and their experience with DLP technology. Thats how I choose eletronics now, cnet and other website reviews. No more brand loyalty just for the sake of the name.

Never buy Sony - Love Philips and Panasonic + my Yamaha AVR

by BRABO1 - 7/11/07 6:41 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

My experience with SONY is lengthy: Transistor radios (70-80's); Boom Box radios (80's); CD players (80-90's); headphones and CD/DVD players 90's to present. The ONLY SONY item that has maintained any degree of "KWality" is my current SONY DVD Player (DVP NS775V) - which has been trouble free for years! SONY audio headphones/speakers are quite horrible. I don't understand how they can be so poor. My PHILIPS headsets are super quality and even my discount brand KOSS (super cheapo) headset out performs any SONY audio. PANASONIC was always my choice in radios and receivers (previously: HARMON KARDON, SHERWOOD or PIONEER) although Sanyo had some nice stuff. Turntables were best by DUAL or TECHNICS (direct drives - of course). But when AVR's hit - Yamaha floated to the top (own a YAMAHA RXV800 AVR). PHILIPS has always been the brand I trusted - all the way back to their photography products - although NOBODY has ever topped CANON in photography (Nikon can take an "overbranded" hike). The all-time speaker favorite...DLK - long gone now - I suppose I'd have to go with LOGANs nowadays.

Samsung

by stouffer - 7/11/07 6:50 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

It's just the best! Tried them all. Got them all. I would still purchase any of the others (except Sony) if I needed one badly and couldn't find a Samsung. Let's just put it this way... if you aren't near a Sony repair shop, DON'T buy a Sony!!!

Samsung LCD (1080p)

by ht_fan - 7/11/07 6:51 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Great product, excellent picture, and reasonable price, period.
I compared many other products over a period of time before I bought my HDTV.

Used to prefer Sony...

by sunwatcher - 7/11/07 6:54 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

But I owned a 32" Trinitron that failed way to early in its life. Now with flat-panel TVs being the way to go, I will rely on product reviews before settling on a particular make.

JVC Rocks

by Web Webster - 7/11/07 6:55 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

My experience is admittedly anecdotal, but then so is nearly everyone else's. My experience with JVC TVs is that they work great and they work forever. I still have a JVC TV that was bought just before the standard for stereo TV sound was established, which places it sometime in the mid-to-late 1980s. It's "stereo ready," which meant that everything except the tuner is stereo. It has a comb filter and 3 sets of a/v inputs. It worked great when I got it and it still works great today. It was very expensive - it cost me something like $699, which was a lot of money at the time, but if you price out the total cost of ownership over a period of 20 years, it was dirt cheap. The only repair I ever had to make was to get the circuit board in the remote control replaced after I dropped it once too often. Oh sure, I have bought half a dozen TV sets since I bought my JVC, including a nice 36-inch Westinghouse LCD model that I like a lot. But many of the newer ones have already gone to the recycling center, and my bet is that the JVC will outlast them all. I wish JVC made cars - I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Sanyo for the budget conscious

by geofbrewer - 7/11/07 7:03 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Sanyo does not have the advertising budget of Sony. They make an excellant product with a price tag that won't empty your bank account. Mitsubishi makes an excellant high-end unit, but I don't have the bucks to buy one. For those who may question my opinion, I've sold consumer electronics off and on over the past ten years.

SAMSUNG OBVIOUSLY!!

by waitformejoe - 7/11/07 7:03 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I own a samsung fridge, washing machine, TV, Audio, and some few other stuff and they last long. They are also high tech, Samsung beating Sony in every way, almost everyhting. i researched about sony and samsung. Took my a couple of hours, but Samsung is the WORLD leading ELETRONIC BRAND. I was like wow.. dammm...N one day i read the NEWSpapers and samsung has topped the french market with almost all of their eletronics being the highest share...of the market. Better tech, durable, affordable(kinda expensive), great, and GREAT SERVICE. SAMSUNG best!!

I used to buy Sony but switched to Panasonic for my 50 plasm

by fritzman2 - 7/11/07 7:16 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The Sony's where way-overpriced for what you got. The Panasonic has a great picture and is easy to setup and use.
I use Onkyo for the surround sound, Sony digital cameras and Digital-8 camcorders.

TV Brands preference

by jaytmoon - 7/11/07 7:31 PM In reply to: Poll: When it comes to TVs, what brand do you prefer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Of the 5 TV's I have in my home the 2 "primary" sets are a Panasonic 52" (rear) dlp HD Projection unit and a VIZIO 32" LCD. I look primarily at the units connectivity options including VGA and component video as well as HDMI. My Panny does not have HDMI (its 2+ years old now) but it does have dvi connections and optical input. The Vizio has 2 HDMI connections and 1 optical plus 3 component and one VGA connector. The other tv sets are RCA, JVC and Magnavox. The only unit that has needed repair is the JVC 27" which required a new Power supply about 12 years ago, the set still rocks.

Other

by jacko0402 - 7/12/07 11:19 AM In reply to: TV Brands preference by jaytmoon

I dont really have loyalties to any brand, i feel that buying what seems like the best deal is the way to go (for cheapskates like me). I do not like sony as a brand for anything, i do think that they are usually always overpriced compared to their competitors, so for this reason i would rather go with a less well known make. After saying this i do think that i would choose a slightly more expensive option if it had had very good reviews.
