Problems with Axim X51v ActiveSyn

by Triplec110 - 9/16/06 1:05 AM

I just bought a Dell Axim X51v a few days ago. I installed the software on my desktop which runs Windows XP Pro w/ SP2, but it seems to me that the ActiveSyn is not working properly. When I turn on the PDA and connect it to my desktop, then it says "synconizing..." but it never stops and never does anything. The MS Outlook on my desktop stays empty.

Any suggestions?

I had that happen.

For me I had to move the connection to a rear USB port. The real cause was the terrible wiring (it wasn't usb 2.0) to the front port.

"my desktop which runs Windows XP Pro w/ SP2" also leads me to wonder if the machine has current drivers. I can't write how many times I see a Windows Pro install that is not up to date.

Thanks Bob.

Thanks a lot Bob.

I have also tried it on my laptop which runs Windows XP Home w/ SP2. I also updated the ActiveSyn to 4.2 (downloaded it directly from MS website). I also updated Dell Axim Utility and Drives, did everything I can.

The ActiveSyn can recognize X51v but just won't syn.

Question:
Is there any procedure that I missed? Such as I have to run the ActiveSyn on PDA first, then run Outlook 2002, etc.

Help!!

Looks grim.

Since 2 machines don't sync, the PDA is now suspect. Stock, out of the box it does sync. But over in PDA we can diddle with settings to cause it not to work but it's new so time to call it in.

Introducing a new computer may have confused the sync

Bob,
Are you sure that she synchronizing by the correct procedure? I've heard someplace about establishing a "partnership" when syncing. If there is such a thing as creating this partnership when syncing, then perhaps it is because she has introduced a second computer that is causing the problem.

Have you used ActiveSync?

Making the partnership is not that tough. However the tough issues I've found is homebuilt machines and forgotten motherboard drivers and substandard wiring on front ports.

I've used ActiveSync on multiple machines without issue. It's a good test.

You said, ''Have you used ActiveSync?''

Bob, I've syncronized my ppc with the pc a few times and many times without intention. I mostly copy files (adobe pdf, mpeg4s, and notes) using the standard procedure in my ipaq's manual - drag and drop.

Don

ps - Has anybody heard of notepad files disappearing from their PC when syncing with a PPC? I believe this has happened to me.

Yes on that disappearing act.

Under Rules, Conflict resolution. There is one setting that could cause that. The stock setting would not have an issue (in theory.)

Did you find a solution please?

by amandauk - 7/11/07 2:34 PM In reply to: Problems with Axim X51v ActiveSyn by Triplec110

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem I think. I had my old pda stolen, luckily the insurance company sent a new one. So I have used Activesync before and know what it is supposed to do. With the new pda (Fujitsu Siemens pocket loox N560)I can set up the partnership fine and everything gets transferred across by the set up wizard. Every time after that when I try to sync I get either the pda is recognised and not connected, or activesync is whirling around trying to connect and never gets there! I have tried every version of Active Sync I can lay my hands on; installed over the top, rolled back the sytem restore and installed fresh versions; tried setting it up on my husbands laptop; I have reset the pda to factory setting at least six times. I'm tearing my hair out - I can't think of anything else. So instead of a working pda, I've just got a handy little games machine.

I hope somebody who has had this problem reads this and can tell me the solution please.

Thanks in anticipation - Amanda

Yes, I've fixed this a few hundred times.

And I've shared the reasons above. In your post you didn't tell if you have completed the steps necessary to remove these from the usual issues.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for replying so quickly!

Sorry, am I missing something, what steps did you mean?

I saw a mention about usb ports, I have tried all the ports on my tower, it's the same on them all, and I have other things that work fine in the usb. I have checked the device manager and that says everything should be working fine. If the PC can talk to the PDA the first time and transfer the data across, it can't be anything major wrong, must be just a setting somewhere but I can't work out what. I have also been into the firewall and made sure that all the different parts of the Activesync prog are allowed through. BTW, I'm on the home version of XP/SP2, and am trying to sync with Outlook 2003, which apparently is compatible with active sync.

Any further tips would be most appreciated!

Thanks again - Amanda

When you post those words in red...

Save me from asking each member for some details. But these are still missing. But here's what's important.

The make, model of the PC, who installed the OS, if the motherboard drivers are current, how do you know if they are current.

And it doesn't matter it worked once. Otherwise we would not be here...

Sorry if this sounds bad but must not rewrite these too much since this is all in my spare time.

Bob
