Buzz out loud, is a little bit more like a talk show about tech news I think, just without guests. ![]()
Then again, I don't like the Daily Show.
...it hasn't been declared flight-worthy as of yet... and now I've just (at least partially) validated you're POV.
I'm not sure how to say this, but perfectionism is something of a religion for some people and it's just not my cup of tea. Even in my field. There are many, many things that need to go "right" for a plane or rocket to take off and fly right - but just as in Zen principles, I think it's best to do something, learn from mistakes, move forward/stretch the envelope, and repeat (a.k.a., Ready, fire, aim, repeat...yes, "fire" is second...it's the personal experience that is to be built up. A similar strategy is used in highly successful Fuzzy Logic control schemes). If there is no risk, there is little to no real learning or real progress.
Yeah, most of the news that has any opinion in it, I'll take with a grain of salt. And BOL is kinda like a tech version of the Daily Show - informed, colorful hosts with various perspectives. Usually, many perspectives are covered well enough for an average joe tech person to appreciate.
so it seems to me that you:
1) would like to hear a podcast with great information that has been researched well enough
and
2) so don't wish people at large to be misinformed at least on a large scale.
That I can understand - there's many times when I get ticked when people say something about the aerospace world and don't know how much they are misinforming masses of people by their intention, choice of words, and/or delivery of the subject matter.
Best,
Shalin
A programmer here.
And, fuzzy logic even works if you do fire, aim, ready.
It's just less efficient.
I listened again today and ya they all tend to extend their personal experiences to how it must be for everyone. Tom's wireless phone was bad with AT&T and Molly's laptop is slow on Vista. This is fluff.
I can't believe any of them are going to cover E3(?) for CNET. Since E3 is mostly for press now, and CNET is usually what I go to for tech news... I might have to re-think who I rely on for my tech new sources.
BOL is the most popular tech cast?? Maybe because they do it every day and CNET pays them, oh and it's on the front page of a website that gets millions of hits a day. I wish I could get paid to sit around, read news, and talk about my cell phone or laptop too.
I just noticed that this extends back to a topic I brought up a while back, http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-10152-0.html?forumID=97&threadID=206269&messageID=2209123. Ironical, eh? The issue is greater than just the personal opinions of the BOL cast. So much of the tech news media is based in San Francisco, and that slants everything we get. There is tech life east of the Rockies besides NYC!
I live in Florida now, but spent a year in California where CNET is. I really enjoyed CNET Radio... I listened in to it in the car, and in the bay area you spend a lot of time in the car if you need to go anywhere... I'll look into that previous post...
Yeah, I find that when they talk/complain/comment on cell phone or cable service that I can't relate 'cause
also, yeah - the tech culture of Silicon Valley is different than that of Austin, Chicago, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangalore, etc.
Still, TMV bring up perspectives from friends/relatives or just travel experiences they have from other parts of the country/world as well. But yeah, much of you're perspective is based on where you sit.

"BOL is the most popular tech cast?? Maybe because they do it every day and CNET pays them"
That makes a lot of sense..
and by the way why do you think so many people, who are obviously smarted than thee, listen to BOL and love it?
Podcasts by their nature are usually commentary and talk not just facts.
Podcast is not a news radio show. It's more like an audio blog, you have to remember that.
Besides, bloggers usually say they're journalists.
But they tend to have a wildy different tone to say CNN.
When the name calling starts, the brakes come on (locks, deletes depending on the severity.)

Notice that I suggested Molly's laptop could be poop, not Molly. ![]()
then I turned 4....GROW UP.
P.S. You are entitled to your own WRONG opinion.
