I have a Dell Latitude D600 Notebook, and I want to upgrade my Ram.
Currently, I have 2 x 256mb(266mhz) of Ram in my configuration, and I want to upgrade to 2 x 512mb (Kingston 533mhz DDR2) of Ram. Is this upgrade possible with my notebook? and will it provide a great enough boost to my computer?
Current Specs:
Dell Latitude D600
Intel Pentium M 1.4ghz
Intel 855PM Chipset
512mb 233mhz Ram (I don't know if it's DDR or DDR2, so I wasn't sure if it was also compatible)
I think this is one of those with onboard video and shared video memory. This upgrade will help overall but will not give it a new life for today's games.
crucial.com offers that pair so it is possible.

I'm only using for casual gaming, like low-end stuff, I have a gaming desktop, but it's just that my laptop is kinda slow now....
I need to keep up with my day to day work.
I found out it's only DDR, so I think I need a DDR (200 pin)Ram, not DDR2.
Is this one ok?
http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=SEARCH&Ntt=1gb+Ram+DDR+SODIMM+200+pin&N=200129&Ntk=All&product_code=340841&Pn=Optima_1GB_PC2700_200pin_DDR_SODIMM_Memory_Module
There's not enough detail in that product description. This is why I just get it from Crucial.

Well, can you tell me if the speed is compatable?
I currently PC2100(266mhz) and this one is PC2700(333mhz).
That would work right?
It's always fine to use higher speed memory but there are details such as number of chip selects, page sizes in the memory that is not given so there's a possibility it may not work. Again, I can't write it will work.
Bob
Thanks for your help, I might ask the guys at Compusa to help me.....
LOL, or I'll just wing it!
Ok, I just bought a 1gb stick of Ram, it is the correct type and speed for my laptop.
When I startup, my computer reduces the amount of Ram, so currently, I am running at 768mb instead of 1280mb. I'm using a 256mb stick in Slot A, and a 1gb stick in Slot B. I tried just using a single stick, changes to 512mb instead of 1gb. I tried switching A and B, when I did (256mb in slot B) it showed only 512mb total again.
I don't think 256mb is dedicated to the OS and whatever, because when I had 512mb, it said 512mb. (Dell told me it was this cause, it's not).
Is it because I don't have a matching Pair of Ram? Maybe?
PLEASE HELP!
The sticks you noted did not give the details of chip selects, page sizes and such for me to write it would work.
Now try a stick from crucial.com

Now go get one from crucial.com What you picked up is what they call "generic" memory. It works in most but not all machines. Crucial.com does the homework to pick which design to use as tests such too.

For my Dell E1505, I bought Crucial 1 GB DDR2 RAM.
It works like a charm.
Try Crucial RAM for your laptop.
Thank you everyone on Cnet Forums for your help, apparently, the Ram was a faulty one, and I exchanged it, now it works perfect. I now have 1.25gb of Ram!
I almost ran out of options!
