iphone

Reason one:
When do we as a group of technically savvy people realize
that a phone should be a phone no cameras no bells and whistles etc..
We are losing the ability to communicate and relate to one another
as people, as one sentient being to another.

Reason two:
At $500.00 and between $60 and $200 a month. I have better ways to spend the money.

Only a fool would buy something that high priced that only works in two or three places in this town and live and works where it won't work.

waiting for awhile

by MzSabina - 7/1/07 4:43 PM In reply to: No by Owl

Just got a look at some of the going rates on EBay. I am a major Apple loyalist, but I still did not wait in line and have no plans on buying an iPhone for atleast 3 months.
The rates are in line with all other data plans so I have no clue what everyone is complaining about. Every plan I have looked out that gives unlimited internet and email on top of your cellphone service is atleast an additional $20. Which is exactly the same as the iPhone plan.
The issue for me is that it is 1st generation. I have read enough to know where Steve Jobs and Apple are planning on going with this phone. There will be major improvements over the next few months and major additions.
But to pay anything over the actual retail, which is what went on with Ebay Friday evening is INSANE.
I still do not understand the obsession with being the first to have something. All you are saying is you are willing to shell out money to be a ginney pig.
I am definately looking forward to owning an iPhone as all my contacts, photos, music, mail, etc. are and have been set up using iLife software and .Mac for sycning so for me, once I have a phone its as easy to activate as it is for me to update my iPod now.
It is far beyone tempting to go out and buy one. The local Apple retailer and the AT&T stores in my area all expect to be restocked by Tuesday. But for now I will just salivate as I watch my Apple shares (plus a few other that I know are profiting from this maddness) rise and rise.
And come the end or the year, when Apple releases Leopard with its major improvements in chat, widgets and a few other things that the phone will most probably take advantage of, I will trade in some of those stocks and than buy a phone. All on their buck. Considering the fact that my stock has gone up close to %1000 in the past few years, YES %1000 not %100.

I do not need an IPhone

by lynjs - 7/1/07 4:45 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Each time that there is a new electronic toy on the market from video game boxes to pcs to phones, there are folks standing in line waiting to get their hands on it first. If these same folks would take the same initiative in voting, our country probably wouldn't be in the mess that it is in now.

With that said, no I won't be buying an IPhone. Not now or ever. I wouldn't have one even if someone went and shelled out the $500 or so and gave it to me as a gift. I would rather have the money in order to purchase something else or better yet, pay off a bill.

As long as I can pick up my Tracfone, place a call and receive a call, that is enough. I don't need internet on my phone. That is why I pay for DSL AT HOME. I don't need a camera on my phone. I can use a regular one. I don't need to watch video on my phone. That is why I have tv at home. I don't need to be informed every minute of every day.

There are sometimes when we need to chill and get away from the electronic distractions and just be.

Tell yourself, especially for those that were in high school and college in the 1980s and early 1990s, how important was your life back then that you had to be informed at all times? Wasn't there times when you wanted to take that land line phone and send it packing right out of the window because it awakened you or interfered with something that you were doing? If the answer is not much and often, then ask yourself why are you losing your minds now and spending $500 on a phone and maybe $200 and $300 a month on usage
People grow up. It is just A PHONE!!!!

NO

by Willy - 7/2/07 4:58 AM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

No way, I'm not a mindless consumer. Heck, I'll wait when its so old hat, that they'll be available at K-mart under the blue light, 2-for-1 and with a bundle of some sort. Give me a break, wait in line for some new gadget that basically is nothing more than a warmed-up phone, heck I got something already that makes calls. If I wanted eye-candy I'll buy a Playboy or a bag of butterscotch. -----Willy

will I buy the I Phone?

by monk568 - 7/2/07 8:28 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I sure will. I am just waiting to see what version is going to have in Europe. Since I am a frequent visitor to Europe, I currently have service with Vodaphone. I have read that Vodaphone & T-Mobile will be jointly able to have the I Phone. Plus it might have 3G capability. So I will wait & see when they will have it in Europe.

No iPhone for me

by Rod Roddy - 7/2/07 8:44 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I've already come to the conclusion that the iPhone is easily the most hyped gadget in all recorded history. For that reason (and the fact that I don't buy Apple products) is why I REFUSE buy one. The "Jesus" phone won't be performing any miracles for me...in fact for you either. Two year contract with AT&T? That’s not a blessing that's a curse. Slow browser? That’s not a sacrament, that's a sacrilege. $599 for a phone? That’s not confirmation, that's a condemnation. I can go on and on! I do have to tip my hat to Apple for yet another flim-flam-ala-ka-zam! Apple can sell real estate on the moon and you'd buy it.

IPhone

by floinva - 7/2/07 9:47 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Pardon my ignorance but what is an IPhone, and while I'm at it what is an IPOD. I'm 76 years old and all I can handle is my computer. I'm afraid to buy a new TV because I don't understand all the TV lingo out there. Guess I should have been born 40 years later. I'm missing the boat.

Yes, but only after the bugs have been worked out.

by mie123 - 7/3/07 3:29 AM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

There's going to be a 2nd or 3rd generation iPhone that'll fix a bunch of the current issues. I'll buy then...or I'll buy the current iPhone, but for like $100 not $600!!!

Maybe

by vulcan5978 - 7/4/07 4:34 AM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If it comes to the UK (which im told it will do) I may get one, but only if the price is right and it is available on 02 or Virgin. Obviously it wont be on AT&T as it is American. It looks like an amazing phone and I would love one!

Nah gonna do it...wouldn't be prudent.

by John Waldron - 7/4/07 7:30 AM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

No I hate standing in line and I'm not a dedicated follower of fashion. Oops showing my age..
No not even if it drops to 300.00
Yes there will be bugs. The teens in my life that just had to have Ipods have all returned them at least once and one young man has been through 4 of them. Apple does not send you back your own phone...somebody elses broken one instead.
No I I buy unlocked GSM/3G WIFI phones (Of which there are plenty to choose from including some with more music storage and better cameras) and use multiple providers world wide. Steve Jobs can cram his Apple AT&T monopoly.
No. No hesitation...aint gonna do it wouldn't be prudent.
No. See the above.
Never.Apples proprietary candy colored toy like devices dont appeal to me and with the success he is having Jobs isn't going to change his business plan. Why should he? The media covers him like he was a rock star and we all know what P.T. Barnum said.

Why buy something that does a bit of everything poorly?

by vik67 - 7/7/07 2:08 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I don't get what all the fuss is about with the iphone. People just have to be the first to have the latest gadget, sure this combines everything into one small gadget, but how can it possibly do everything well? I'll believe it when I see it.

Don't make the mistake...

by TimmyG36 - 7/8/07 2:59 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I just got a few lil words to say about the iphone...Do not follow the 'fashion trend' and hop onto the bandwagon because it just isn't worth it. Maybe wait until the 2nd or 3rd gen. comes out...then i'll think about it

No iPhone, ever, 2 big reasons...

by JayeD - 7/9/07 12:32 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

1. I love my Blackberry & Sprint, I use it for the Highest Speed broadband connection with my laptops.

2. As for mobile multimedia, I need a larger screen(the iPhone screen is just too small for my taste).
I love the Samsung Q1 Ultra with the split qwerty keypads, the higher resolution 7" screen on this second gen Samsung works for me, & the Vista OS is great. The iPhones I have seen in action around here seem slow, & the owners hate their cellualr service when they see how fast Sprint performs, it is as fast as our T1 line at work(of course our network is loaded down, but still...
The Samsung performs noticeably faster, with better response time than the iPhone, something is wrong with that Apple better wake up.
For me the SamsungQ1 is a better for mobile wifi
