Why would you go through 5of the same model phone if they drop calls? Are you truly masochistic? After the second I would think you had learned the leason and switched models.
As the saying goes "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
Or another one ..... "there is a sucker born every day"
And for corporate email, you are way off base. You can get any email you get on your computer at home. with all the rich text and graphics. Plus embedded files and word and pdf files attached and able to open. Only difference between the phone and the computer is you can't edit the PDF's or Word docs.
So a ps3 may be a toy. but an iPhone is far more than a toy.
And if your thinking all the other manufactures will catch up soon, don't hold your breath.
iPod has been around nearly 70 months and threre is no one out there making a dent in their market. They just took one look at it and sat in awe trying to think of ways to make it better, more funtional, simplier to use and as elegantly designed. More than 5 years down the road, not ONE contender out there. Which now makes Apple the 3rd largest music vendor in the world. And the iPod itself covers over 80% of the MP3 player market.
Don't you think they have already got a 5 year plan for the iPhone that will keep them at the top of that market also.
It may have taken Steve Jobs 30 years, but he knows that marketing is just as important as functinality and style. And he has proven it. If the iPhone is even half as successful as the iPod, you can take it to the bank that Apple will have a major chunk of the smart phone market within the next few years.
I would be more likely to but one if it had GPS capability. It has maps via the internet and therefore satellite photos via Mapquest/ terraserver, google earth and others. It must have a GPS chip as modern cellphones are required to for emergencies. Can the GPS talk to the maps? I'm not looking for a magellan or garmin experience with color highlighted driving directions at this early point but it would be nice if you could at least bring up a zoomable satellite map with roads overlayed and at have a marker that moves with you form the GPS chip so that you know where you are. Does anyone know if this is possible with the iphone. I haven't heard this discussed as features are previewed. To me this would make this little device do most of the electronic things I do in one little handheld package. Perhaps not perfec in its first release but darn tempting.
I loved my cellphone... but $110 for two phones on a "family plan" was just too much. My wife and I decided to reevaluate what cellphones are for. Quite simply we decided on one thing... Emergencies.
Why buy a phone with a camera when your carrier has disabled its ability to transfer files to your PC? Why buy games when you don't really own them... but only rent them? Same for ringtones as well! Why pay more to send text messages when they actually use less bandwidth than voice calls? I'm done being ripped off. I may get a prepaid phone for emergencies, but I refuse to pay premium prices compared to Asia and the rest of the world while getting sub-standard service. Frankly... life has been so much quieter since dumping my two Verizon phones. *aaaah* It's wonderful!
The iPhone is nothing more than an iPod with basic phone capabilities. Its dressed up nice and sports complete touch control. But is it worth it for hardcore cell user.....NO....ITS....NOT. If you need music and cellphone usage the way to go is SONY ERICSSON. I want to say that I will never get one of these but if my girlfriend beggs me enough I just might cave and get her one. But right now I use two cell phones The Palm Treo 750 for work and Blackberry Pearl for Personal. Might I add the Pearl is an excellent if not the best TEXTING phone ever. Texting is where I think the iPhone falls short but then again I will have to buy one to find out right....LOL...PEace out
I love Apple; however, I will never purchase an iphone--this one anyway. I have had Cingular service for over two years--and I still will not purchase the phone. Why? I never purchase the first model of anything.
I think it cuts down on my money waste. At least there is a little more assurance when going with something that has had a little time in consumers' hands.
You'all have fun financing the later--more improved--models for the rest of us smart people.
For those of you out there that are do use a PDA or Blackberry and are under the assumption that the iPhone is just a hyped up iPod, maybe you should spend 20 minutes before you start making these claims.
Here is the address for the video: www.apple.com/iphone/usingiphone/guidedtour.html
Now I am not saying that the phone will work as well as it does on the video in its first release, but after 25 plus years of experience with Apple products, I know that they will live up to their claims. It just may take a few updates. As far as speed goes, well that is just going to depend on ATT and the location your at. I have little trouble with my ATT service in South Florida, but I know that when I travel to New York, I do come across more dead zones.
I have been an Apple person since the 80's, I am also an Apple Technician trained at Apple. I belong to Cingular/AT&T as well. But I have several question's that need to be addressed before I shell out $500+ bucks for a cell phone. 1.Can this phone be unlocked? 2.Can this cell phone be unbranded. 3.Can I manually install songs or is it locked to Cingular/itunes music service.4.Can I modify this phone to my personal likening. If I pay this kind of money for a device which has built-in road blocks and would not allow me to customize it, then I have no intention of getting one. Until now it's all been hipe! Probably the best promotional campaign ever created. This phone has been on every marketers lips for well over a year, Company's have changed their product line simply based on a glimpse of a phone that no one has been able to hold. I feel like I am back at St.Ambrose school and being told to have faith my son!. Let me get my hot little hand on one of these for 3 days and I'll tell you if it is worth it or not. Until then I would keep your money in your pocket. Let's all remember, Is anyone out their happy surfing the web on a 3 inch screen? IF the only TV size in the market was 3 inches would you know who the Supranos were? would there be an HBO? Do you enjoy low-res photos, Do you need music in your ear 24 hours a day? I have an HTC Hearms or Cingular 8525 I may have taken 5 or so photos with it, I have never used the MP3 player and the only time I have web surfed with it was when I am stuck some ware waiting with nothing better to do and only if I have a wifi connection I would not pay $20.00 a month to surf on a 2 inch screen. These Cell company's are screwing us and we are happy to pay. let's all get together and demand service, support and a reasoniable price. 15 cents to send a text message which really means .30 cents since you always expect a reply when sending one so why don't they just say 30 cents a text message. one word of text cost 15 cents or I can talk on my plan for free I can tie up the data line with my voice all night with no charge but send a word of text and I need to pay 15 cents thats crazy and we allow it to happen. I am starting to rant sorry, take care and spend wisely.
Did you just, in the same paragraph say you are and Apple Technician and then go on to say that iTunes is a locked music service??? Wow!!! Someone pays you to service their Macs? Scary thought. If you know anything about iTunes than you should know that it was originally just an application to manage MP3 files. For example letting you set up play lists, favorites, year released, and now lyrics, etc. The Apple Music store is not NECESSARY to use iTunes. And iTunes is a FREE application. And all the other features are just later releases, such as album view. Whatever you can do with iTunes on your computer you can do on the phone.
I am surprised that you claim to be an Apple Technician and have not even bothered to watch the video on the iPhone features.
IPhone is limited to ATT. Why change carriers? The technology is not super advanced.
I am not planning to buy an iPhone because, more than anything else, I want my phone to be a phone. I want it to be small, unobtrusive and quick to use. If I get a call, I just want to be able to flip the phone open to answer it and then, when I'm finished, just close it and put it back in my pocket ... with one hand. I want to be able to use voice-dialing (not available on the iPhone) or one-handed dialing (difficult though not impossible on the iPhone). I guess I like specialist items like the iPod Nano for Mp3's, small digital cameras for everyday pictures, digital SLR's for serious pictures and Blackberrys for email. Putting everything together in one place adds confusion and limits freedom of use. I guess that's why I always preferred component audio systems over all-in-one home units.
I agree, all I need is a phone to talk on. I don't need all the other toys that come with new phones. I don't IM or send e-mails by phone so someone needs to come out with a phone that does just nothing but make calls and do that reliably and I would be happy.
I see no reason to buy one at this time. I have a good cell phone now and a Windows based Pocket PC that I use. I use Verizon for a service provider and I like their service. So, the only reason to change would be to show off the latest gizmo. Not likely that I would spend up to $600 for that and have to change to a service provider that I may not like and likely does not have good coverage and service that I am used to with Verizon. My Dell pocket PC can do most everything the iPhone can do and some things it can't. Having 2 devices instead of one is often a benefit to my way of thinking.
Why is that Apple puts there i phone under class so everyone will see it not release it tell now?
Apple is all hype very little on giving you much of product, then charge you lot more money for lot less!
Its all about marketing look at the commercial on TV not there PC bash making Apple look like the king of computers and PC looking like bumbling idiots!!!
I'm talking about the commercial that shows the iPhone and how you can surf the net wow and read news paper on the net even bigger wow wow.
How many will carrie it just one? whats the battery life like zip? will it cost more give less? you bet it will its an Apple product you count on it!
version 1.0
Anyone knowing anything about tech will tell you version 1 of anything is never a good idea.
All I need or want is a telephone.
