Most likely not

by say592 - 6/27/07 5:19 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Im all for the latest smart phones, and the newest tech, but the iPhone just doesnt seem like it has much to offer. In reality, its only a smart phone. Its not practical for anything else, or for the average user. Sure, I would take advantage of many of the features, but its not worth $500-600 (plus 2yr contract). You dont really have much room for music, and anyone who can buy it wont need/want it just for music.

Its not expandable either. Its loaded with cripple-ware and cant due many things or play many functions. Its just not worth it. There are way to many problems with it.

Lastly, I just dont believe in spending $600 on a phone, regardless of what it can do.

Not gonna happen!

Okay, it looks cool. But a touch screen on a candy bar phone? I don't think so!

Actual usefulness

by bfdonnelly - 6/27/07 5:31 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I bought my 6th cellphone last December. At this point, I know what I want, and what I don't. I care about being able to dial by touch (don't worry; I don't dial and drive). I care about being able to download e-mail fast. I want a phone that I can put in the same pocket as change and lint. I want a phone that doesn't make people think I'm overpaid, as I work in public service. I want a phone that I can take to Europe and into which I can place a local SIM card. I use my phone a lot, and I want to replace batteries. The iPhone _may_ eventually get there. Maybe I'll buy it then.

Maybe I will buy one, but most likely not...

by ESUNintel - 6/27/07 5:39 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

If this phone ever comes to V*r*zon I would consider buying it. I would never buy an other media/smart phone from AT&* or C*ng*lar simply because their data speeds are the worst out there, and voice connections are not as good. Why have an iPhone if you can't even use it at broadband like speeds. Those buying this phone will suffer when it comes to downloading stuff, the smart people at AT&* didn't even make it 3G capable, which isn't all that good either. If this phone is made available to V*r*zon I would likely buy it; however, a Zune phone might be cooler and more useful (since it would likely use Windows Mobile), I wonder if there are any plans for that. That would truly be an *pple killer.

Love Technology but Never Buy

by ivwildbil - 6/27/07 5:40 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I work in IT and love technology but there's no way I can afford to buy all the latest and greatest. I read up on stuff. Take advantage of beta trails whenever possible. When it comes to cellphones though I don't think I will ever buy one. You can get some really good phones basically for free. Sure you can't get the "newest" thing out there but you can get one with everything "need" just for getting a calling plan which you need anyway.

It's really more like renting than buying

by Rob-Sedona - 6/27/07 5:49 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

In the USA, we really don't "own" our cellphones; it's really closer to a two-year rental, where the provider (landlord) has all the control. Where can you take your iPhone if you're dissatisfied with AT&T?

When my Verizon contract expires in November, I'm going to try a "grand experiment", and find a provider with uncrippled bluetooth and EVDO, and find their cheapest phone supporting both, and the most cost-effective plan I can find. I have a Nokia N800 that I'll pair with whatever phone I'm using at the time. That way, the phone doesn't contain my data and applications, and I don't have to give up my N800 to change providers.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what the best provider might be for this approach? I'm leaning toward AllTel at the moment.

Not planning to buy iPhone

by CalicoTude - 6/27/07 5:50 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

For one thing, I just re-upped with Verizon, and am committed until 10/08. For another thing, it's way too expensive, and my current Verizon phone is an LG that has enough internet capability to let me check the Mets scores if I'm not watching/at the game. Current LG is a clamshell that has a nice QWERTY keyboard, and I like it a lot. So the iPhone just doesn't offer enough for it to be a good value for me.

NO to iPhone

by LindaJ58 - 6/27/07 5:51 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The day of monopolies in this area is over. Besides, the price is exorbitant. The people will wait and get the same stuff, maybe better in 6 months. :)

IPhone? Not

by jaytmoon - 6/27/07 5:55 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Too expensive, I have no need for the features (even though I do think they are very cool). I also do not wish to support apple and its proprietary designs. I can use web services on my current phone (with cingular/ATT). The speed is lousy. This phone will not change that!

No, too much, too little

by mckeywest - 6/27/07 6:04 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Cost too much and with AT&T's network the phone will not function at full capacity. By the time the phone opens up to other markets (2 years) other than AT&T, something else will be out that will be better. Besides, I don't need a phone that does all that. That's why I have a laptop, iPod, digital camera and a phone.

No - Security is the big problem

by john resler(nakedjazzman) - 6/27/07 6:10 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Today we live in a`society that requires many people to be extremely vigilante about security issues and risks. Technology is constantly being breached and so there is a large industry in tech security. However there is even a larger need for human security and there is no technology that can protect that only technology that puts that type of security at grave risk(i.e. cellphones with cameras andrecorders etcetera) I work in these field with my three jobs and so the only way to protect against leaksis simplicity.
Until I leave these jobs my cell phone will be simple it makes a call it recieves a call no memory,no recorder,no pictures. Just ring hello goodbye.

Not buying an iPhone today

by dawdillon - 6/27/07 6:16 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

So I'm an AT&T customer with no complaints. And I'm a long time Palm PDA user. So I finally broke down and got a Treo 680 so I don't have to carry a phone AND a PDA. I'm very happy with my new toy, and while the newer toy looks shinier, I'll wait until this one becomes an old toy.

By the way, I like being able to call up a web page on my phone when I get the whim to do so to research a conversation topic, to catch the latest news (so I'm not forced to watch another story about the brat pack, the latest wildfire, or the latest missing person) like while I'm seated in my comfy couch, or standing in line. And Google Maps or Telenav . . . Awesome! I'm never lost.

Now, if Palm goes away net time I'm ready to upgrade, I'll take a good hard look at the iPhone. The interface is compelling, and it's not like it's the first generation of touch screens (Hellooooo! Palm Pilot!?!?). So I think it will be a good product for the urban techie, info hog, news addict, entertainment junkie, spoiled rotten, affluenza afflicted American (there's plenty of those to keep Mr Jobs rich for a long while).

But that's just my thinking. If it works, it will sell. It's going to work.

Buying an iPhone

by kodiak53 - 6/27/07 6:16 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Are you nuts? A phone is a phine is a phine and all of the bells and whistles are not necessary. To buy a gadget just because it is new is a total waste of time and money. You ( the electronic companies appeal to the younger generation who seem to have an endless supply of money for all of the gadgetry.

Not planning on buying an IPhone

by kargg - 6/27/07 6:28 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

For one, I hate talking on the phone. Two, the cell phone I have has everything I'll ever need--a phone...
And that's pretty much it. I don't use the voice messaging. (Don't even know how to access it.)
It DOES let me call by voice--which I do use, but that's pretty much it. I don't need it glued to my ear 24/7 like some people seem to. I carry it on me for emergencies and that's it. I don't even know my cell phone number.

iPhone, naw

by jreedsr - 6/27/07 6:32 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Lets look at the bugs first and then wait for the price to go down. I probably use only half of my RAZRs capabilities as it is. So, what's the big deal?
