Not likely

by Lemonhed - 6/27/07 3:41 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

A) I don't even own a cell phone.
B) I tried a "smart" phone with several apps and bells and whistles. Couldn't fathom what I would need it for doing that would make me want one.
C) Seems like just another gadget to sink money into that I don't have.

I'm sure the teens will love it, and massive quantities of classroom cheating and pr0n swapping will be even easier, but for me, Captain Old School, I'm happy with desktops for now.

Never

by keithisafool - 6/27/07 3:44 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

OK, I'm in the UK, and not available here yet, but even then, its a phone thats been in the offing for months now, and at first launch it was a handset that was already beaten by others in many catagorys.

And reading today that its not even got the capability to have any tracks as a ringtone is just crazy.

I'll stick with a manufacturer that knows how to make phones thanks very much.

Never - Why Do I need something I already have?

by llucyy - 6/27/07 3:44 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have had a Motorola that can do everything the iphone can, plus more, like GPS, video , play midis.
Ipods have never been able to play midis.
Apple pods are just over-priced- over hyped toys for kiddies.

Yes... but after my current contract is up.

by tmsimmon - 6/27/07 3:46 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Yes... but after my current contract is up. Otherwise I pay 300.00 for both phones early deactivation (Sprint)
My coverage with Sprint is not too bad... but their service and attitude sucks! I never had a bad apple... and how bad can AT&T be compared to everyone else? I'd love to see some laws around the way they tie you into these 2 year contracts.

cheers!

I will not get an iPhone for these reasons:

by Bronzit - 6/27/07 3:48 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

1) I insist on digital/CDMA technology on our cellular phones, always have: No drop-outs, broader coverage, can do GSM overseas if necessary (seldom). AT&T is the absolute wrong carrier for me.
2) Far too expensive for both the device & the service.
3) I would never use mobile Internet connectivity @ those connection speeds and costs.
4) I own/use a phone to make telephone calls, PERIOD, and make very few via cellular @ that, never exceeding/approaching our Family Plan/nationwide alloted minutes.
5) IM-ing and text messaging have no place in our (wife & family's) lives, especially away from home base(s). I refuse to pay for minutes used for voicemail, so it is disabled on our phones.
6) As stated by others also, never buy 1st Gen. issue cars or technology. It's like buying a prototype!
7) There are times when I/we don't want to get an interruption by telephone call so I/we are not interested in being constantly tethered to a device.
8) We already have iPods & phones/service which suit us fine.

VR,

Ron.

P.S.; I am a "First 100 Days Mac User", since 3/6/84 and am writing this on my PowerBook G4 (soon to be replaced by a MacBook Pro 15"). I am a retired Network/Systems Admin. and former Senior Computer Field Engineer who also maintained PC's & medium systems for a career. I have never owned a PC, however. They are too much trouble. Anyway, I think that I know a little about technology issues.

Are you planning on buying an iPhone?

by vicgui - 6/27/07 3:52 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

NO! If I want an MP3 player I will go out and buy one , the same goes for the cell phone, I want it to be a phone just for calls which is what a phone if for. Plus the price is ridiculous 500/600 dollars.

Cool phone, but too expensive and awkward.

by markerichannelly - 6/27/07 3:52 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The iPhone is a very cool phone but I won't buy it because (1) It's far too expensive for a phone. A PS3 is about the same price and (2), it's far too awkward to use for regular everyday use, especially if you are a heavy texter like me. Using a touchscreen to text! What were the guys in Cupertino thinking?!? It is also very distinctive when outside, meaning you are more likely to get mugged, just like with the iPod.

NO... no way !

1. Price tag
2. Carrier
3. 1st. Generation
4. The most important: I do NOT use any apple product

=P

No - Finance!

by AlanJ777 - 6/27/07 3:54 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I'm 17 and don't have that kind of disposable income. Yes, I have an Xbox360, but can you play Gears of War and Halo 3 on your iPhone? Nope. Besides, Xbox360 + 1 year of XboxLive (gold) + Halo 3 + Gears of War < 1 iPhone

I think I changed my mind

by dirfrops - 6/27/07 4:36 PM In reply to: No - Finance! by AlanJ777

Since the iPod first debuted in October of 2001, there have been 19 models/upgrades NOT including the iPod mini, the iPod Nano, and the iPod Shuffle.

I bought my 20 gig iPod color in August of 2005 and in September of 2005 they announced the new 30/60 gig VIDEO iPODs and I was livid, especially since I could've waited one month and gotten 10 more gigs WITH video for the exact same price. I wanted to set fire to Steve Jobs' house.

This leads me to believe that the iPhone only has Edge, no SIM card, ATT carrier only, no battery replacement, expensive call/data plan, and only 4gig/8gig so that they can do upgrades and screw over the populous that already dropped 600 bucks on technology that was already old. Face it...Apple already had that technology for the color and video iPods...they simply decided to recoup their R&D costs by stair-stepping their old technology to eventually (after 5 years and 19 versions later, the 80 gig video came out 9/2006 I think) put out the best iPod that they could've released years earlier.

I never did any research on the iPhone other than watching the really cool, drool-inducing (graphically enhanced by Pixar probably) commercials and "How To" video that makes just about everyone want an iPhone until they really start researching it. If people only watch these videos, they will have a successful franchise in the phone business. But how many people that haven't done their research will bulk at the price and plan when the ATT sales rep starts spouting off all the additional costs. Any smart person would turn around and walk out.

Thanks everyone for the insight on this iProduct. My money will burn down Steve Job's house before I let it burn a hole through my pocket.

As for you Shaymus22...I think I like your idea.

No...It is a "gadget" not really a useful device

by trossi10 - 6/27/07 4:00 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

No..I prefer surfing the web on a much larger screen. I prefer clamshell phones because I carry mine in my pocket and don't accidently dial. The screen is too small to enjoy good photos. and music is better from a stereo, home theater system or bose radio!!

Maybe: Only if's (a lot of them)

by link48010 - 6/27/07 4:02 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Why would i buy an iPhone for internet when i have a Nintendo DS Lite browser, far faster on any wi-fi spot instead of AT&T's old Edge network. 120 seconds was Yahoo.com's load time where my DS can get it in as little as 4 or 5 depending on the Wi-Fi. I already have a phone that has internet capacity for emails so i don't need that. Finally i already have an MP3 player with a memory card slot that is still smaller than the iPod. Given that's a few items, my pockets are big. I don't mind having four objects with me at any one time. The iPhone is so far over priced and over rated. If everyone of my devices where to stop working at once, the iPhone may be on my list.

I forgot but also

by link48010 - 6/27/07 4:05 PM In reply to: Maybe: Only if's (a lot of them) by link48010

Might i also mention that because the iPhone is a fully coded version of Mac OS 10, them selling hundreds of iPhone's is the same as selling several hundred Mac computers. that means that people can make viruses for the OS on the iPhone and the could also infect the Mac coms. Cause the iPhone is on the net, that means that personal data is most likely transmited via email etc. so people CAN and WILL make viruses for it.

Never!

by eskimopie2100 - 6/27/07 4:02 PM In reply to: Poll: Are you planning on buying an iPhone? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Why would anybody buy that dinky little thing, that probably cost no more than $100.00 to make, ship and sell? It is far cheaper and more logical to get a laptop. The problem with created technology is that the consumer inherently creates a use for it, and that use may just be for no other reason then the rationalization to use the device although it can be shown that the use is limited if not completely unnecessary in their daily lives.
