This question is particularly pertinent to new parents or parents of young children. And in this case the said noobie is my 2 year old daughter.
Here's the Question: For some one who has never seen any Star-wars movies what episodes do you introduce them to first?
there has never been this delema for people who were born before the episode 3. we have all seen them the same way, have all gasped at Darth being Luke's father, an laughed when Leah reviled to Han that Luke's her Bro. But now that they have all come out to disk, do you have them view it as we all have? 4,5,6 OR do we let them start at the beginning with 1,2,3?
I've got some time to play with this decision as my daughter probably won't watch these movies until she around 6. But for some of you the choice is upon you or has already been made.
What path did you choose? What path will you choose?
So start with 4 or start with 1?
there are moments of both comedy and epic action (pod race). I personally hate episode one but if the kid likes jar jar then it's ftw.
p.s. you mispelled introduce
Start with DROIDS. When they are school age (aka 1st graders) then go with the original trilogy, some of the graphic novels. When they graduate elementary school, sit them down and carefully explain the prequel trilogy, how awful they are and how and why they should stay clear of them--and instead switch to some of the Expanded Universe novels--especially the Timothy Zahn, X-Wing Squadron, and I JEDI novels--and the New Jedi Order novels. especially TRAITOR which radically redefines Star Wars and the understanding of the Force.

you missed the part where I said that she won't watch them until she's about 6
Check the OP ![]()
Actually, no.
You said "probably" she wouldn't watch the movies until she's 6.
Maybe you should read the OP.

P.S. At least we agree she should wait until she's in first grade.
Ok, OK,
First grade or there abouts it is.
Then inform them that the director went insane with greed and attempted to revise a masterpiece by adding flashy effects (which weren't all that great).
Inform them that there was an attempt at creating so called "Prequels" but then inconsistent integration with the original storyline make them worthy of ignoring completely.
There are only three star wars movies:
The ORIGINAL Star Wars
The ORIGINAL Empire Strikes Back
The ORIGINAL Return of the Jedi
This is all they should know.
You, as a parent, have to build up their mental and emotional defenses lest they should fall prey to those would cruelly warp their sanity by exposing to ... the Prequel Side of the Force.

P.S. Besides, you don't want them to learn about the Prequels on the street.
I recently introduced my fourth grade daughter. Granted, she was a little old but she used to get nightmares and I didn't want to scare her off by showing them too early.
We started w/ A new Hope (original Star Wars), followed by Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. She got the same tension as we did 30 years ago -- learning that the Droids had personalities, who Luke was, seeing Obi Wan as an old master, etc.
She enjoyed them a lot and now wants to watch the prequels. I never wanted to own them so we'll have to rent them when I get around to it.
you push them into the deep end with 300
then X Men
then LoTR
and then, if they still talk to you, Exterminator/Dolf Lungren/Bruce Willis/Rambo.....![]()
.,
When I was little I watched the last couple, then saw the first three later on. I really liked the older ones because of the cute little ewoks, I think she would like the ewoks. I also think you should start with 4,5,6, because it seems the characters in the first three are more severe looking in my opinion. So Im figuring if you get her used to it you should start off with those. I really think though you should just put it on the tv and see if she's interested, I think it would be tougher to try to get her into it instead of her discovering it herself.
I think I'm going to go the route of 4,5,6
then the prequels (if she's interested)
so that there are no spoilers for the later ones.
Also seeing it the same way we get to have the same experience.
Anyone else thought about this before or is it just me?
play acting the original radio drama (http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Star-Wars-Trilogy-Episodes/dp/1565111648/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-9940487-5619348?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1182308725&sr=8-1) - seriously...could be fun for the whole family
I suggest this mainly because it's a way to BUILD the characters.
I'm not a parent, but I'd probably find out from other parents the following: which order was picked and did any of the following happen?: kids liked it, were confused and had questions, or were excited and had questions and wanted to see more.
If you want to limit it to just the movies - may be talk about the characters first and then surprise them with the full length feature films where they can see their favorite characters in action
They may find it comforting to "see it the way Dad saw it"...or maybe it'll be a fun, family experience to go from 1-6 together.
Enjoy the fun,
Shalin
