XP-Pro or Vista Basic on new Toshiba Laptop?

by ironyears - 6/17/07 6:04 AM

I recently bought a Toshiba Laptop A135, S2326, 15.4" screen, Vista Basic OS, operating at 1.6gHz, 1024Gig RAM, 60Gig HD, 256MB (?)integrated video. I asked the Toshiba Support if I could install XP-Pro and then delete Vista Basic. I was told that, due to some kind of driver problems, the laptop would not work if I installed the XP-Pro and used that instead of the Vista Basic. Is this true, and if so, why?
Thanks in advance.

We have long discussions going on about that.

If they won't hand you the drivers then it's going to be rough to impossible. Rough means you may have something that doesn't work such as a mouse pad or wifi adapter.

I won't write more about this but point you to ongoing discussions ->

Bob;

Thanks for the links, I thought I had tried finding the FAQ or discussions, obviously went to the wrong forums. Looks like this is beyond my current "user level", will have to stick to Vista until I become more technically accomplished, particularly as Toshiba "claims"
(not sure I truly believe them) they don't have the proper drivers to hand out.

Anyway, appreciate your input.
David

Firewalls set to allow networking.

User accounts on machines that said users need to access (hint: SAM needs an account (SAM) on each machine.
