dwwin.dll error - initialization failure

by vophsi - 6/15/07 8:32 PM

I am a lan admin and I am deploying some new laptops. I keep getting the above mentioned error just before the laptop shuts down. Specifically, dwwin.dll failure because Win is shutting down. I've searched the net and tried the suggestions, but nothing seems to work. It doesn't give an error code or any indication of what application is causing the failure. I've modified the registry, turned everything noncritical off in msconfig and tried uninstalling Dr. Watson, all to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks

But Have You Disabled 'Error Reporting'?

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 6/15/07 9:11 PM In reply to: dwwin.dll error - initialization failure by vophsi

If you're using Windows XP, which you unfortunately didn't tell us, disable Error Reporting like this:

Right Click My Computer, select "Properties", then the "Advanced" tab, then the "Error Reporting" button, then select "Disable Error Reporting".

Personally, I've never seen a reason to keep it running. The error generally means there is a problem program which is activating "Error Reporting" during shutdown...but since Windows is shutting down, "Error Reporting" can't activate.

Hope this helps.

Grif
