A stunning article about Paris Hilton

by udayan71 Moderator - 6/12/07 3:55 AM

Hitchens dexterously compares Paris Hilton's treatment by the media to the same instincts and desires of those involved in pedophiliac acts. He even goes on to vehemently criticise America's delight for not only sordidly watching the-tape-that-made-her-famous, but also for then delighting in making her cry.

Those gloating and jeering headlines, showing a tearful child being hauled back to jail, had the effect of making me feel sick. So, you finally got the kid to weep on camera? Are you happy now?

An absolute must-read. I recommend it without any reservation at all.

"tearful child"? When was the last time Paris had shown any kind of innocence? The way she has been abusing her popularity, I'm glad she's back in jail.

>...Are you happy now?

I think people fail to understand that most of us don't give a #$(% about Paris. If she wants to milk this by crying. be my guest. who knows, considering it's Paris, maybe it's the best place for her to release another video, perhaps a solo video at this time. ;)

poor girl wouldn't get to party around at day, drinking and driving around at night. What a tragedy for our society.

How I wish this was true! Society's love-affair with celebrity, and its malicious obsession with those who fall from grace has existed for centuries. While today it is Hollywood, in the past it has been royalty. Most famously Princess Grace of Monaco combined the two!

I thoroughly commend you on not caring about Paris, it is indeed an example of having the right priorities, but I do believe that the fact that national newspapers of high repute spent many days of last week with Paris on page 1, illustrates that society is still focused on the glitter of celebrity and not the content of real ailments.

If she wants to milk this by crying.
She wasn't milking it. That was real distraught. 'We' finally did it! We broke the collagen smile, and now we're done with that toy. Reminds me of Lenny with the hamster in Of Mice and Men.
