This is for you er, older, users,
and those younger ones who like to experiment with new browsers and things.
Netscape Navigator is back, with a new version 9 browser.
Netscape was the internet leader in browser technology and design in the mid to late 90's until Microsoft introduced Internet Explorer 3 issued free with Windows 95, and Internet Explorer 4, bundled into the Windows 98 operating system in 1997.
From then on Netscape struggled to compete with IE for market share, even though many thought it was a superior browser. Netscape's developers, Mozilla moved on with the Firefox browser and are now the major challenge to Internet Explorer in the browser wars.
Now Netscape Communications have revived their Netscape Communicator with a version 9 release. More details here;

Netscape Navigator was my browser of choice on both Windows 95 and the Mac as IE crashed between mouse clicks. But at the turn of the century I ditched it for Internet Explorer, which had finally become the superior browser in my eyes. How short that preference was!

P.S. How many releases of Netscape Navigator do YOU remember, Mark? ![]()
I first got onto the internet in 1996 so I think it was Netscape V2. Version 3 was better and version 4 was great. They missed out version 5 for some reason and went straight to 6. Remember v6? Bloated, slow, cumbersome. Then lastly version 7.1. They did a v7.2 but I stuck with 7.1.
I've still got 7.1 on this machine and v 4 on my old Win ME computer.
Ahh, happy days! ![]()

I always wondered where Netscape vanished to. Tucked away, somewhere, in my attic I've still got a Win95 machine with Netscape v5 on it.
the security thing at the left bottom wouldn't update, some error message. I email them to no avail. No add-ons, little themes.
Was sometime since last August. I tried it on my Dell Inspiron B130, but did not like.
Was happier with Mozilla Firefox.
If I recall, the older versions, before the tabbed browsing and add-on, worked much better.

I remember on 1998 Netscape rules everything and then came along IE. After that things would never be the same. Now, Netscape is based on Firefox and I've never felt awkward using it as it is similar like Firefox. Well sort of. Now you can choose to install browser only or the complete package.
